this AI-generated ad promoting an 'AI ads' course made a FORTUNE... here’s why the ad caught the viewers attention and made them buy instantly: it kicks off with a girl jumping up in bed, hair everywhere, screaming at the top of her lungs: “AI ADS!!!” – instant scroll-stopper then it hard-cuts to a dude mid-meltdown: “why the hell does this look like trash?!” the setup is painfully relatable: → burned cash on 10 random subscriptions, broke before breakfast → facebook ads tanking, nicotine cloud filling the room → client threatening: 8 hours left or the contract’s gone → rent due tomorrow, account balance basically zero → girlfriend with her bags at the door → mom just heard from her that he’s a “hopeless failure” anyone that's grinding in marketing can relate to this but then the vibe flips... he’s on the toilet, doom-scrolling tiktok with that brainrot 'tralarelo tralala' audio loop in the background… suddenly: “wait… a $47 ai ads course? done.” his whole world shifts in an instant: - from a tiny apartment to a villa with luxury cars lined up - palm trees, champagne spraying - a freaking lion lounging by the pool and then he hits the viewer with a CTA: “this hook is more addictive than gambling ads. you’re not watching hollywood - this was made in 2 hours with ai, for under $10. the same course shows you how.” he rides the lion straight at the camera: “you keep making weak ads and you’re still watching this… i guess it works.” next scene? him on a rainbow-colored dragon yelling at people to click it hits because it mirrors the lowest point (broke, desperate, no way out) and then delivers an instant, ridiculous transformation it takes the viewer through peak vulnerability to proof the impossible can happen and then hits them with a low-ticket course and then there's the meta-layer: the ad IS the product, you're demonstrating it directly in the ad Like, RT + Reply "VEO" and I'll send you more viral veo3 ads that are printing rn so you can copy them for your product (must follow so i can dm) example of viral veo ad below

Oh my word, how is this even possible? There is now additional audio coming to light in the John O'Keefe and Karen Read re-trial from 6:03AM on 1/29/22. Karen says, in full, "Can you Google how long for someone to die in cold...hurry --Jen! Jen! Jen!-- hurry!" We'll talk about this, and so much more, on a special towel birthday stream this morning after 8:30AM ET. Watch live, say hello to little towel, ask your questions about the O'Keefe/Read re-trial and be merry! Link - Previously, I reported: I have now found both copies of Karen Read's voicemail (left on John O'Keefe's phone at 6:03AM on 1/29/22) where Karen directs Jen McCabe to Google how long it takes someone to "die in the cold." The statement can also be heard on Jen's 911 call! Find enhanced audio of Voicemail #8 (left by Karen on John's phone) from trial 1 and trial 2, along with enhanced audio of that 911 call (where Karen can clearly be heard, in the background, saying "...to die in cold", exactly as can he heard on the voicemail recordings). Voicemail #8 Trial 1 timestamped link (1st video in the attached compilation clip) - Voicemail #8 Trial 2 timestamped link (2nd video in the attached compilation clip) - Highest quality possible audio of the 911 call, timestamp 1 minute and 45 seconds in the file (3nd video in the attached compilation clip) - Yesterday, I reported; Ladies, gentlemen and fellow towels. I believe the towel friends have found audio proof that Karen Read asked Jen McCabe to Google "how long to die in cold" at 6:23am on 1/29/22. This is huge as the recording went under the radar during Read's first trial. Listen below with enhanced and isolated sound, in both real time and 0.75x speed, and hear Karen clearly saying to Jen: "Use your phone [to search] how long for you to die in the cold," as Jen is on the phone with 911 (the recording is from a voicemail from a different phone that caught Karen speaking to Jen) at the scene where John O'Keefe was found, suffering from a head injury and hypothermia, after Read allegedly struck John with her car --while drunk driving with a BAC 2-4 times over the legal limit-- and left him to die on a lawn at 12:32am that morning. So, in short, Jen McCabe --as multiple digital experts, including from Cellebrite, have confirmed-- Googled how long to die in cold at 6:23am and Karen's defense expert, Richard Green (a man with an arrest history for filing a false police report) simply misread a write ahead log in cell phone data from Jen's WallDB that caused years of unnecessary smears directed at McCabe.

Hey, seen just about everyone with a brain on the timeline cook your dumbass for this useless NPC tech - but this one took it a little far for me. Why? Because this time, it’s complete larp. You didn’t fix anything, you just fixed a CA you saw us post, manually entered in into your database, and took a screenshot for engagement. StalkFun - same with you, you posted a video showing you “fixed” it, yet you manually entered the CA I posted into your database? Stop larping "tech", it’s cringe. You make $0 from your products Scotch Pilgrim. What are you working towards? What do you gain from this? That's where fomo 🧠 comes in! Stop pretending to build “tech”. Stop trying to prop this guy up as another “builder” under your wing just so you can drop another scam token using him as the face. Stop pretending to “save the trenches” when you don’t even trade. Appeal to your bot followers and upload your trash NPC content no one (real) watches - that is and always will be your lane (“Believe University” - you're not real 😂). We’re dealing with platforms, we're dealing with GMGN - platforms earning 8 figures in revenue - real builders - NOT randoms trying to engagement farm larp tech for followers and a quick rug. This is the first and last time you will be acknowledged by us. You don't have a solution, because there isn't one (and we both know that, and so does every big trading platform - which is why they haven't "acted on it" like GMGN.Ai pretended to yesterday for engagement) - you are engagement farming because you want to use this attention to launch a scam token - the video below proves you are full of 💩.

theres a guy who hit platinum 3 playing two accounts at the same time hands on draven. feet on yuumi his FEET are higher ranked than 80% of the league population let that sink in for a second while you're hardstuck silver blaming your support for missing hooks this psychopath is playing ADC with his hands and support with his TOES and winning i watched the vod. it's fucking insane right hand: mouse for draven, catching axes, kiting left hand: keyboard for draven abilities left foot: foot pedal for yuumi, attaching to people right foot: controls all yuumi heals he's literally playing two champions better than you play one draven is making plays, getting kills, positioning perfectly yuumi is shielding, ulting, doing her job meanwhile you need "three business days to mentally recover" from one ranked loss the best part? yuumi account has a HIGH winrate his feet have better decision making than your entire brain "when should i heal?" the foot knows "when should i ult?" the foot knows "who should i attach to?" THE FOOT FUCKING KNOWS you're sitting there with your $3000 setup, gaming chair, mechanical keyboard, 240hz monitor getting gapped by someone's big toe i asked him why he does this "gets boring playing one champion" BROTHER YOU'RE PLAYING TWO AT THE SAME TIME this is what actual limit testing looks like not you flashing into 5 people and calling it "aggression" he's literally managing 8 limbs, 2 screens, 2 champions, 2 roles and he's plat 3 you manage 1 champion and you're complaining about "elo hell" here's what this actually proves: league is not complicated. you've MADE it complicated yuumi is so simple his FEET can pilot her to platinum draven requires actual mechanics and he's doing it WHILE playing yuumi if someone's foot can get plat, what's your excuse? "my team holds me back" his team has a FOOT on it and they're winning "i need better teammates" his teammate is his left foot and it's doing fine "i can't climb because supports don't know how to play" his support is being controlled by toes and has a 58% winrate the game is simple. you see enemy. you kill enemy. you take tower. you've added 100 steps between "see enemy" and "kill enemy" and that's why you're hardstuck this guy removed his brain from the equation on one account entirely just gave the job to his feet and his feet are better at league than most of you stop overthinking. stop overcomplicating. stop making excuses if a foot can hit platinum, you have no excuse Study the Saskio way

I had dinner last night with 8 founders. Combined net worth at the table was probably over $2 billion. Two Russians. Two Indians. One Pakistani. One Egyptian. One French guy who left Paris last year. One American who left San Francisco the year before. Nobody at that table lives in their home country anymore. All of them live within 15 minutes of where we ate. That’s what people get wrong about Dubai. It’s not a vacation spot or a tax haven. It’s just where everyone the West called the future actually ended up moving. The French guy ran a fintech in Paris until his second cousin got kidnapped over a $4M position. He moved his family in 6 weeks. The American sold his company in 2023 and watched 38% of his exit disappear to combined federal and state taxes. He moved within 90 days. The Russians have been here since 2022 and never went back. Their kids barely remember Moscow. The Pakistani guy was running a $400M business out of Karachi when his accountant got arrested for “investigation.” He left with his family that month. Every guy at that table represents a country that lost them because the country itself made staying impossible. The West keeps writing think pieces about Dubai being fake or soulless or morally bankrupt. Meanwhile every founder who has real options is showing up here with his family and his capital. The countries that used to lecture the world about how to succeed are now watching their best people leave one by one. They can keep arguing about why this isn’t happening. The dinner reservations in Dubai keep getting harder to book either way. A few years here of life in Dubai and it gets more obvious why I’m here. 🇦🇪

3 Reasons there aren’t more Black Head Coaches in the NFL. -Circumstance -Comfortability -Access It’s not a coincidence. The NFL Head Coaching fraternity is hard to break into with the amount of great coaching candidates, nepotism and back scratching that occurs that makes it tough for former players to break into the profession and climb to positions that are coveted for Head Coaching jobs. Often times owners and front office executives want to hire the people who are the best for the job, but are also the ones they are most comfortable with because they look like them, have the same or similar life experiences so they connect better with them and who they want to go golfing with. BUT ACCESS is the issue that has clear examples of how black players don't get the same treatment in coaching circles. That’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. Take a look at Quarterbacks after they finish their playing career. Some go from playing to QB coach to Offensive Coordinator to head coach conversations quickly. The fast track is real for some players. Kellen Moore went from playing to QB Coach to Offensive Coordinator in 2 years after retiring and became the New Orleans Saints Head coach 8 years after retiring. Kevin O’Connell went from playing to coaching in 2015, was an OC in 4 years by 2019 and the Minnesota Vikings Head Coach in 7 years by 2022. FAST TRACK Philadelphia Eagles OC Sean Mannion and Washington Commanders OC David Blough both went from playing to NFL Coaching staffs and OC in 3 years. FAST TRACK. We’ve seen Black quarterbacks go into coaching in this same pipeline like Byron Leftwich who became an NFL coach in 2016 as a coaching intern and was the OC of the Buccaneers by 2019. But despite winning a Super Bowl with Tom Brady, he never got a chance to be an NFL Head Coach. Why? Did he bomb the interview? Or was he just not in the right circumstance, where he made the right people comfortable or had the proper connections to determine his access. Right now if you are on Sean Mcvay's staff you are a walking head coach in waiting. All 4 of his last OCs are head coaches. -Liam Coen -Mike Lafluer -Matt Lafluer -Kevin O'Connell Because they were the best men for the job, great coaches, had the right circumstance, made the right people comfortable, and had the right conections to get access to the job. Seneca Wallace, Jason Campbell, Cleo Lemon, Randall Cunningham. Why didn't they get the same opportunity after their playing days? It’s not just a coincidence. Maybe they didn’t want to be a coach because of the long 20 year cycle they would be presented with to get to the top of the profession that is standard for most. But if you told any of them they would be an OC in 3 years or less and a Head Coach in 8 years or less. ALL OF THEM WOULD TAKE IT. But they never had access to that Fast Track pipeline. The NFL cant say we want the best leaders’ while recycling the same leader profile. And if the NFL is truly a meritocracy, then the pipeline should reflect merit, not comfort. Not ‘who looks like the last guy we trusted.’ Not who gets the benefit of the doubt for being associated with family lineages. In a league that is 70% black, the leadership should be more representative of the leagues players. There are qualified Head Coaching candidates of all skin colors. They just want a chance to succeed or fail just like their competition when their resumes clearly say they have earned it.

Nuna, Nanon, and her aunty Nonnie 👫🐕 #RegalosLiveNanonXNuna #RegalosXNanon #mynameisnanon #NunafromLuna 🪐: She is a Samoyed girl. Right now she is... What month is this? July? So she is about to become 8 months old.... Wait.. What date is today? 👥: 8th 🪐: *count* 8 months old already then. 🗣️: You must have taken care of her so well. Look at her pretty fur and she looks very healthy. ✨ 🪐: Very naughty too. 🗣️: Very naughty? 😂 🪐: But I have to give credit to Nonnie. Because since I took her in, I've been busy with concert and oversea tour. So meanwhile... a very long period of 'meanwhile', 😂 I mean since my first concert, Nuna has been at Nonnie's until today. I can't bring her back now when I still have to fly oversea so often. At first when I lived with Nuna, I thought I could manage by coming back home to her early... But I found out (there was problem) when she was left alone.. Her breed needs people's attention all the time. There must be at least someone with her (when I'm away). *talk to Nuna* You needs to have someone playing with you, right? 🐶: *kiss her Papa* 🪐: Ja. 🐶❣️ So.. I was afraid she would get stressed. There was one time that she started to destroy the house 🏡🌪️ and peed everywhere although she had already learned to do it on pee pads. Then she tore off my sofa... Whenever I had any issue about Nuna, I'd text Nonnie 'What's wrong with Nong (Nuna)? Why she suddenly...' Something like that. I let her sleep in the living room but after I went upstairs to sleep, she would start barking. I'd get panicked and texted my sister 'Nonnie, Nuna is acting strange again. Will she be okay?' I feared she'd become too stressed.. (if the situation continued). So I decided to let Nonnie take care of her during this time. When my work schedule becomes more relaxed and more predictable, I will bring her back to live with me. 🏡🐕

🪦 McConnell’s Office: “He Continues to Improve” — After Three Weeks of Silence, CPR, and a Cardiac Arrest Call They Won’t Acknowledge Mitch McConnell’s office finally broke their near-total information blackout yesterday, July 2, with a statement after the 84-year-old senator has been hospitalized since June 14 — that’s nearly three weeks with virtually no transparency. 🏥 The Statement The full statement from his spokesperson: “Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.” That’s it. No cause. No diagnosis. No prognosis. No timeline for return. No acknowledgment a US Senator was dead for who knows how long and in a coma for days, if not weeks. 📻 The EMS Audio They Won’t Address Independent journalist Desiree Townsend obtained and released EMS dispatch audio from the morning of June 14 — the same day McConnell was admitted. The audio, since verified by multiple outlets, reveals: - A dispatcher calling for an “ALS” (advanced life support) response to McConnell’s D.C. address - The call categorized as a “cardiac arrest” - A paramedic on the recording stating: “CPR in progress” - The individual described as “unconscious” McConnell’s office has refused to confirm or deny whether that call was about the senator himself. They haven’t even acknowledged the audio exists. 🔍 What We Actually Know - June 14: McConnell admitted to hospital. Office says he’s receiving “excellent care.” - June 15: Spokesperson claims he’s “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.” Yeah, right! 🤡 - June 22: Office says he won’t be voting that week, still “continuing his recovery.” - June 30: The Courier Journal reaches out — office provides no update. - July 2: After EMS audio surfaces publicly, office releases the “continues to improve” statement. - Senate recess: Not scheduled to reconvene until July 13. Even Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear — a Democrat, but still the state’s governor — said at a press conference Thursday that McConnell’s office hasn’t communicated with him at all, adding: “If he’s been in the hospital for several weeks, they need to communicate more directly.” 🩺 The Pattern Nobody Wants to Discuss This isn’t a one-off. The pattern is undeniable: - 2023: Concussion and broken ribs from a fall. Then two separate on-camera freezing episodes that multiple neurologists suggested looked like absence seizures or TIAs. - 2024: Another fall with minor injuries. Then an 8-day hospitalization in February for what was vaguely called “flu-like symptoms.” - May 2026: Spotted at a committee hearing with a bandaged hand. - June 2026: Cardiac arrest-level EMS response at his home, CPR in progress, three weeks hospitalized with zero transparency. An 84-year-old man with this cascading health record, who survived childhood polio, now apparently suffered something serious enough to require CPR — and the public gets “he continues to improve” and even more lies, “working closely with staff.” 🏛️ The Real Issue This goes beyond one senator. The gerontocracy running this country treats their health like a state secret. McConnell’s seventh and final term ends in January 2027 — but the voters of Kentucky and the American public have a right to know whether one of the most powerful figures in Senate history is actually capable of performing his duties right now. Bullsh*t! “Working closely with staff on Kentucky and Senate matters” from a hospital bed after a cardiac event is not governance — it’s a Potemkin operation run by unelected staffers. The fact that it took leaked EMS audio from an independent journalist to force even this milquetoast statement tells you everything about how these institutions actually operate.

My contribution to this conversation is simple: the CFA program will humble you. You will cry. You will lament. You will question your life choices. You will bargain with God and start planning the thanksgiving service you intend to hold if you somehow make it to the other side. All these videos were taken during my Level II preparation, but the third one stands out. I remember being in a hotel room during an engagement. We had spent the entire day with the client, from about 8 a.m. until almost 10 p.m. By the time I got back, I was completely exhausted. Any reasonable person would have gone straight to bed. Instead, I took a shower, opened my CFA materials, and continued studying because the exam was approaching and CFA does not care that you’ve already worked a full day. There were days I was running on pure stubbornness. The kind of period where your prayer points become very specific: “God, if I pass this exam, the thanksgiving will be massive.” Level II showed me real pepper. You will read a concept today, understand it perfectly, solve questions on it, and feel on top of the world. By next week, you have forgotten everything and you’re starting from scratch again. You keep reading. You keep forgetting. You read it again. You forget it again. The cycle continues. CFA Level II will have you asking yourself if your brain is still functioning properly, jare. 😂 As for Level III, I am currently in the stage of fear and mental preparation. I know what it represents, so I am respectfully giving myself time to breathe before I enter that arena. For now, the books and I are just looking at each other from a safe distance. 😭 P.S. don’t mind my reading style. I almost always have music playing in the background while studying. It’s basically my coping mechanism.

HOW TO MAKE $50K/MONTH SELLING MANAGED AI AGENTS (FULL COURSE) The model: sell managed AI agents to businesses for $5K/month each. You handle the infrastructure, they get an employee that never sleeps. 10 clients puts you at $50K MRR with 85%+ margins, run entirely by you and a fleet of agents. Nick Vasilescu is doing exactly this, and he came on the pod to walk through the whole playbook. Here's what I learned: 1. The arbitrage is that nobody knows this is possible. 99% of business owners are still asking ChatGPT what the weather is. One working agent hooks them on the spot. 2. Sell abundance. Unlimited agents, unlimited infrastructure. They don't care what an MCP is, they care that their problem is gone. 3. Don't niche too early. Say yes to everyone and let the market pull you. You find the niche by doing reps, not guessing. 4. Paid audit into managed service. Charge $1K to map every automation opportunity, then credit it toward month one. Qualifies the lead, makes the upsell a no-brainer. 5. First call, don't sell. Record it, map the workflow tip to tail, find the automation with the most value and least effort. Start there. 6. The stack is Hermes + Composio + Orgo. Composio connects all their apps in one click. Orgo spins up a working Hermes agent in 26 seconds. 7. Productize with a golden snapshot. Build one perfect agent, clone it, and every copy comes over one for one with auth intact. 8. Turn client call transcripts into skills in 10 minutes. Feed the recording to Claude Code, write the skill, port it to the client's agent via Orgo MCP. 9. Watchdogs make you look elite. Get alerted before the client notices anything broke. "Already fixed it" is why they keep paying you. 10. You become their guy. You drive more outcomes than their own employees, they credit every win to you, and churn drops to almost nothing. His 2 key takeaways: 1. Bet on cost going to zero. They launched unlimited tokens when it was barely profitable because they knew they'd capture the spread. Build for where the puck is going. 2. One client every six weeks gets you to $600K a year. The model isn't hard, it's just unevenly executed. That's the entire opportunity. Nick is crushing this model and we had a blast diving deep on how you can do the same. Go follow Nick Vasilescu Full video below. The 15 rules of Filmmaking for comedy movies by Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker (ZAZ): "1. JOKE ON A JOKE: Two jokes at the same time cancel each other out. If the joke is in the background, the foreground action should be serious, and vice versa. Focus on one joke at a time. 2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Sometimes referred to as “winking.” Don’t acknowledge the joke, or that you made a joke. Actors in the foreground must ignore jokes happening behind them. 3. MERELY CLEVER: A “clever” joke isn’t good enough. It has to get a laugh. 4. BREAKING THE FRAME: Don’t remind the audience they’re watching a movie. Jokes about the movie itself, the movie business, or comedy itself are a strict no-no, although it’s possible to sneak one in if you don’t dwell on it. See Rule #11: That didn’t happen. 5. TRIVIA: A joke using references so arcane that few people will ever get it. 6. JERRY LEWIS: A comedian who is doing every possible crazy thing he can to get a laugh. As a result, when something was over the top, we would just say, “Jerry Lewis.” 7. AXE GRINDING: When the joke is overshadowed by some message, it gets unfunny fast. 8. KNOCKING DOWN THE POSTS: Conceptual jokes are fine, but people don’t laugh at concepts; they laugh at verbal or visual punch lines. In 'Airplane!' (1980) the gag of the soldier leaning out the door as his girlfriend runs alongside is merely referencing the same scene we’ve seen in hundreds of films where it makes sense—or a train. Fortunately, we decided to put old-style railroad posts on the runway and have the girl knock them over. People clearly get the concept of the scene, but they don’t laugh until she knocks down the posts. 9. STRAW DUMMY: A hollow setup for a joke where the target has been invented by the writer. You can’t satirize something that doesn’t exist. Like a block-long, nuclear-powered bus. 10. CAN YOU LIVE WITH IT?: Once a joke is made, it can’t be allowed to hang around (Rule #14). Like a personalized license plate, how long can “LV2FART” be funny? 11. THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN: Something that totally defies all logic but is on and off the screen so fast that we get away with it. Robert Stack in 'Airplane!' yells, “They’re on instruments!” Cut to the cockpit—the actors are playing musical instruments. Seconds later, the saxophone and clarinets have disappeared. If it’s done right, no one in the audience will ask where the instruments went. 12. UNRELATED BACKGROUND: A joke happening in the background, though unacknowledged, still needs to be related in some way to the action in the foreground. This rule was put into effect after the release of Airplane!, when we desperately trying to figure out why no one laughed at the spear striking the wall behind Robert Stack and a watermelon crashing on the table behind Lloyd Bridges. It made us laugh so hard when we wrote it, filmed it, saw it in dailies, as well as the finished film. Unfortunately we were the only ones. It was craziness without an actual joke. We left it in, and probably in some way it adds to the irreverent tone of the film, but it never gets a laugh. 13. TECHNICAL PIZZAZZ: Special effects and big action don’t necessarily mean funny. 14. HANGING ON: Don’t play a joke too long. When it reaches its peak, get out. The film should move off a joke before the audience does. 15. THERE ARE NO RULES: We try to follow these rules as closely as possible, realizing that perhaps what is most important is knowing when to ignore them." ("Surely You Can't be Serious - The True Story of Airplane!", ZAZ interviewed by Will Harris, 2023) P.S: On this day, 46 years ago, "Airplane!" (1980) was released in the USA.

Most of my video work is heavily rely on character sheets. Originally my character sheets were pretty simple, just 3 views made in Nano Banana. But I wanted something neater that actually feels like a proper production character sheet. So here's how I do it now in LovartAI Step 1: Create the base image of your character in Nano Banana. It can be anything. I just describe mine conversationally, something like "create a Thai high school student." That's enough to get started. Step 2: Once you have the base image, feed it into the template below. I run this in GPT o2 Image because the detail output is really good. And that's genuinely it. The template below is fully adjustable. Make it yours. And please note that everything happens conversationally with LovartAI which the best part 😉 + + + Prompt Example: [STYLE]: cinematic realism, Wong Kar-Wai atmosphere, high contrast, film grain, warm humid haze, 35mm anamorphic feel [LAYOUT]: single unified MASTER CHARACTER REFERENCE SHEET, two-page-spread feel, neutral off-white background, sections clearly separated with bold headers [CHARACTER]: - Name: Mira - Alias / role: The Woman - Age descriptor: young adult - Build: slender, natural proportions - Face: warm brown skin, natural beauty, no makeup, subtle imperfections, sweat sheen, half-lidded eyes, slightly parted lips - Hair: messy ponytail, tortoiseshell claw clip - Wardrobe: faded sage-green T-shirt, clinging, damp at collarbone, casual shorts - Props: none - Distinguishing features: sweat on temples and neck, natural skin texture - Personality (drives micro-expressions): intensely seductive, confident, teasing, deliberate [LEFT PAGE]: [SECTION 1 — TITLE + INFO BLOCK, top-left]: large character name header + 6 short stat lines (Name / Alias / Height / Build / Role / Archetype). Ancient ruins of Palmyra, a city called "the Bride of the Desert," rediscovered by Westerners in 17th-18th Centuries. Much like the discovery of King Tut influenced art deco designs, the "Caravan City" of Palmyra in central Syria created a worldwide excitement for classical architecture. Middle East has affected the West throughout history, yesterday and today. Palmyra is the Latin name given by the Romans to the palm tree rich area they annexed onto their Eastern Empire in the first century. Before that, as written in The Holy Bible (2 Chronicles 8:4) and other ancient documents, Tadmor was its name, a desert city built by Solomon (990-931 BC). The oasis began to flourish under the Roman reign of Tiberius, after about 15 AD, until roughly 273 AD. The ruins in Palmyra are from this Roman period—before the Edict of Milan in 313 AD, early Christian architecture, and Byzantine engineering. This is a time when Western civilization was influenced by Eastern traditions and methods—the introduction of al jabr (algebra) and, in architecture, the pointed arch, well-known as a feature in Western Gothic architecture but said to have originated in Syria. The architecture of Palmyra exemplified the "Eastern" influence on "Western" art and architecture. Like citadel atop a hill in Aleppo, Palmyra's reconstructed citadel—Qala'at ibn Maan—stood watch over the grand crossroads below. At least it did before the 2011 Syrian civil war began. Once a tourist destination, Palmyra is still an area of fascination and horror. When the Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) overtook the Syrian soldiers in 2015, the militant rebels chose the highest spot, Qala'at ibn Maan, to raise their victory flag of victory. Subsequently, the terrorists have systematically destroyed the iconic architecture considered blasphemous. Again, the landscape has changed. Palmyra continues to be a story of East meets West. What has been lost? Palmyra a UNESCO World Heritage Site in part for being influential in Neoclassical designs, including classical revival house styles, found in Europe and America in 18th and 19th Century. "Discovery of the ruined city by travellers in 17th-18th Centuries resulted in its subsequent influence on architectural styles," writes the World Heritage Centre. What did these modern explorers come across? "A grand, colonnaded street of 1100 metres' length forms the monumental axis of the city, which together with secondary colonnaded cross streets links the major public monuments" are the ruins that Western explorers may have seen. "The grand colonnade constitutes a characteristic example of a type of structure which represents a major artistic development." The Cardo Maximus is the name given to the grand boulevards that run north and south in ancient Roman cities. The Monumental Arch would lead the caravan travelers and traders into the city of Palmyra. The ruins of this Syrian city give today's architects and city planners a good idea of past designs. The grand monumental colonnaded street, open in the centre with covered side passages, and subsidiary cross streets of similar design together with the major public buildings, form an outstanding illustration of architecture and urban layout at the peak of Rome's expansion in and engagement with the East. In the fall of 2015 many news organizations reported that militant groups had bombed and destroyed the famous arches of Palmyra. The great Neoclassical triumphal arches we see today, like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France, can be traced back to a structure typically found at the crossroads of ancient Roman streets. The tetrapylon or quadrifron—tetra- and quad- mean "four" in Greek and Latin—had four pylons or faces within the four corners of the intersection. Symmetry and proportion are Classical design features that we continue to bring to our homes. 🎥© lostcivilizations #archaeohistories
