Jayden Daniels Right hamstring vs. knee injury His hamstring was stretched in an abnormal position. If his knee is involved, it’s most likely an injury to his (posterior) meniscus. ACL unlikely but possible. You would think it would have been to his left knee the way it bent but no. That was the knee he previously injured. You can see him grab the back of his right leg/knee at the end of the play.

Continuation of previous MRI case. A 14-year-old boy with persistent discomfort and occasional joint effusion 3 months after a medial knee sprain of the deep component (same injury 3 years ago). Brock Bowers - huge update If you watched the play, you can see the defender hit his right knee, and the inside of his right knee buckled a little bit. What was lost in translation was that his left knee landed hard on the turf in a flexed position. Up until today, we knew that he was dealing with a knee injury, but no specifics. Now we have video of him practicing with a brace on his left knee. So essentially his right knee got lucky, but his left knee was actually the problem. He’s likely dealing with a grade one, mild, PCL sprain of the left knee. As a result, he is low risk for significant injury, and will play on Monday night and should not have any restrictions or dips in performance. For comparison, last year, Puka Nacua had a grade 2 moderate PCL spray. If Bowers were to land on this knee again in a flex position, there’s a possibility that happens. We have video! (s/o bennett) Luther Burden - Most will point out the Left Achilles/step back but I do think he got his knee back fast enough where we don’t need to be concerned there (I’m hopeful). It honestly looks like he took a shot to the family jewels but not sure that would cause him to limp the way he did into the locker room. Hard to tell exactly how hard Burden planted on his left leg, so difficult to say if it’s intra-articular (meniscus, etc) or not. Tyrique landed more on Burden’s right leg than his left though, so I’m not really concerned about an MCL/ACL or high ankle on the left side as of now. Possibly a groin injury or a simple shot to the 🥜? Seems not too bad by video.

Knee cave is good for glutes? 😱 This video is bound to upset some people. A new study directly examined knee cave a.k.a. knee valgus vs pushing knees out in a squat on muscle activations# well as forces acting on the knee The researchers found MORE glute activation when the participants cued knee cave vs knees out where they saw more adductor activation. This may seem strange since a lot of exercises for the glutes utilize knees out. But these are typically exercising involving abduction, not squats Not only that, but they found the forces on the knee during knee cave were not even close to the level required to cause knee injury I am NOT saying you should purposefully valgus, but if you have strong glutes & you find that your knees naturally track in during heavy squats, you are probably better off training all your sets that way so that those tissues appropriately adapt, rather than squatting how you ‘think’ you ‘should’ on lighter sets only to have them cave in on heavy sets A perfect real life example of this is my friend Lya Bavoil, current world record holder of a 225kg squat in the 69kg class (496 lb squat at around 152 lbs body weight for my Americans who hate math) drug free. Her knees have always caved during squat. This is likely BECAUSE she has such strong glutes (she also deadlifts well over 500 lbs) so her body naturally goes into the position where she is strongest. She’s also never hurt her knees 🤷🏼‍♂️ If you don’t knee valgus naturally during squats don’t make yourself do it but if you find you still have some knee cave even though your glutes are strong, I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless you consistently find it painful It’s time to let go of these dogmatic ideas around ‘perfect’ form. To be clear, I think the Knees Over Toes approach has good qualities to it. This is not an attack on the methodology or the people involved in it. However, this is a critique on how this exercise, and many like it, may not be the best choice for many people. Some can and have seen success from these programs, but I’ve met a whole lot who haven’t. If it works for you, that’s awesome. Keep going. But if it doesn’t, then it may be time to try something different.
