pov: your vibecoder friend trying to debug the app built using claude code

The nightmare isn't debugging. It's that Claude doesn't remember why it wrote that code in the first place. Vibe coding gets you from zero to demo in an afternoon. But when something breaks a week later, you're staring at code you didn't write, with no commit messages, no documentation, and no memory of the tradeoffs that were made. The agent moved on. You're left holding the bug. Fast creation is worthless without memory of what was created.

An entire generation built status on knowing a language. Now it’s autocomplete. That shift hits harder than any joke.

skill issue, not a tool issue If you don't understand what is being written then that's the vobecoder fault

Maybe in earlier versions of AI. Not anymore though. Secured and debugged with Claude now

The only code I've done basic and VBasic in HS in the early 00's, but I know that AI code debate is rapidly ending itself. It's not going to be more than a few months til code is generated flawlessly in existing languages, or made at a more base/assembly level entirely.

the funniest stage is when they open the browser console and start reading error messages out loud like they are casting a spell. "uncaught TypeError: cannot read properties of undefined" and they just stare at it hoping it will explain itself. a dev at a coworking space in Munich told me he watched someone copy paste the same error into Claude Code four times in a row expecting a different answer each time. the debugging skill gap is the real divide between people who can vibe code sustainably and people who hit a wall the moment something breaks in a way the AI did not anticipate
