Powerful message about the golf ball rollback from USGA President Fred Perpall today. The further the ball goes, the more time it takes and the more it costs to build and maintain golf courses.

@USGA Bifurcation is the way to go

@USGA "It excludes more people" Yes please, more of this! Shrink the game.

@USGA So dumb. Make the driver smaller and lower the Max MOI. Miss the center and it’s off the planet. All this is going to do is make it more beneficial for the guys already bombing it. Or you could mandate dimple pattern changes to increase spin so off center shots don’t still go 320

@USGA The most sensible sell is sustainability. The other sell is respecting great architecture and returning the driver / middle/ long iron par 4 to the game at the top level - without having to make 530y par 4s. And the freak in one generation (Bryson) is always the norm in the next

The USGA’s own distance report shows negligible course size increase due to distance. Shoehorning in buzzwords like “sustainability” sounds like desperation. On top of that, the rollback will only reward the longest players more. And place no increased emphasis on precision/control. It’s a huge missed opportunity. A proper rollback (if one is even necessary, which is debatable) starts with looking at the driver. Every pro-rollback case I hear (USGA, podcasts, etc.) talks exclusively about driver distance. Yet the driver is remaining unchanged. The biggest part of the “problem” isn’t changing!! Unbelievable!! I’ve yet to see a compelling pro-rollback argument from anyone who has a clear, wholistic understanding of the data.

@USGA Unless you clowns roll the ball back 50+ yards, the paltry amount you're proposing will be regained by the pros in 3-5 years, if that. And NO ONE supports rolling the ball back 50+ yards. Just stop this inanity already. And replace the entirety of the @USGA's leadership.

@USGA Fix distance issue by making the driver harder to hit... if mishits with the driver curved more, that fixes this... people could hit persimmon 325, but if you missed the sweet spot, it went 250 sideways... the best players have a hard time hitting it super crooked

@USGA Dumbest argument I’ve ever heard for support of rolling the ball back

@USGA The PGA of America during this message:

@USGA Agreed- bifurcate!
