Selling off our social housing was always an ideologically-driven policy. It has proven to be a disaster, fuelling the housing crisis we have today. I welcome the Social Housing Bill, which will curb the Thatcher-era Right To Buy policy, but the government must go further and abolish it completely.

🏠 Housing déjà vu! Nothing new in the Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael repackaged housing plan. Nothing to make housing affordable, get rents under control or ramp-up delivery of council homes needed. A generation will remain locked-out of homeownership. Another housing plan for the property funds, corporate landlords and big developers but not for you. We won’t stop fighting for a new direction that makes housing affordable for workers and families.

President William Ruto: When I came into office, I changed the law on housing to create the Housing Fund and the Housing Levy. I changed the law because the Housing Act that was passed in Kenya was passed at the same time as the Housing Act in Singapore. The difference is that Singapore made progress on their program on housing, we did not. Because of the Housing Fund, we have 160,000 people working in the housing program
