Elon Musk: Tesla will be the Airbnb for cars. “My prediction is that probably by the end of next year, we'll have probably hundreds of thousands, if not over a million Teslas doing self-driving in the U.S. Unsupervised full self-driving where you do not need to pay attention. We'll have a model that is kind of like some combination of Uber and Airbnb. If you're a Tesla owner, you'll be able to add or subtract your car to the fleet. So, just like an Airbnb, you could rent out your spare bedroom or rent out your house when you're not using it. And the same thing will be available for Tesla owners. Really good experience with Tesla service today. They fixed EVERY Cybertruck recall in five hours. They also gave me a Model S loaner. But please look at it and tell me a “normal” person would be happy with this type of loaner. If you are buying a $100,000 Tesla, getting a loaner in this condition is probably very offensive. I’ve always been very forgiving with Tesla. I really don’t care I just want them to succeed. But I’m just imagining like a 79 year old rich granny getting this thing and being obsoletely traumatized by how dirty it is. Can Tesla not allocate some hours to keep loaners clean? Run through a car wash and vacuum it out would do wonders. Plus clean the white stain from the back 😳

In his first attempt 13 months ago, he had something like 21 disengagements, and various system failures, GPS errors, and red hands of death. This time? The latest FSD version (14.2.2.3) was a "total game changer." "We went from a dozen disengagements and technical issues to zero in one software update. It's incredible. Tesla is finally fixing the bugs in Tesla Full Self-Driving that The Dawn Project identified 2.5 years ago! In Nov 2023 we ran a full-page ad in the New York Times warning Tesla that its self-driving software would ignore Do Not Enter and Road Closed signs. Good news: FSD finally responds to Do Not Enter signs and will make a U-turn or find an alternative route! Bad news: FSD will still blow right past Road Closed signs like they aren't even there. Ashok Elluswamy Tesla AI, good start! Your next assignment is Road Closed signs. Seems like a simple enough problem. Make sure you fix it in the next FSD update. Let us know once that's been done and I'll provide you with your next assignment.

He's probably the one person who's done the deepest public dives on Tesla FSD and Tesla AI over the years. In fact, over the past 4 years I've published 40+ videos (!) with James Douma on Tesla AI/FSD (they are all on a playlist on my YouTube channel). I first discovered James Douma a long time ago (maybe almost 8-10 years ago?) on a web forum called . Back then it was one of the only places for early Tesla owners and TSLA investors to discuss issues deeply. While I posted about investing topics, James posted about Tesla Autopilot and its hardware but in a way that was more thorough than anybody else. When I started posting YouTube videos years later, I invited him on my channel to hear his thoughts on Tesla Autopilot/FSD. It was a riveting discussion and I was surprised at how much I could learn from him. I invited him again for another interview on my channel, and once again I was floored by how much I was learning. So over the years, James has been a great resource for me (and many others) to keep pulse on what Tesla is doing with FSD and AI (and even robotics). He doesn't have his own YouTube channel.
