I loved being in India. My first time. I was shocked by how normalized Indians are to poor air quality. Breathing the air is like smoking multiple cigarettes a day. Yet no one wears a mask or has air filters in their indoor environments. The evidence shows that India would improve the health of its population more by cleaning up air quality than by curing all cancers. I am unsure why India's leaders do not make air quality a national emergency. I don't know what interests, money and power keep things the way they are but it's really bad for the entire country.

Utah Bill to Strip Public Assistance from Undocumented Immigrants, those in the state illegally Passes Committee 7-3 Utah lawmakers are debating House Bill 88, sponsored by Rep. Trevor Lee, a Republican from Layton. This bill would require strict verification of lawful presence in the U.S. before anyone 18 or older can receive most state or locally funded public benefits. It removes many current exceptions, meaning programs like WIC nutrition for women, infants, and children, food assistance, vaccinations, treatment for communicable diseases, housing aid, homeless services, and non-emergency health care could be off-limits to those without legal status. Emergency medical care and short-term disaster relief would still be allowed regardless of immigration status. Bill sponsor Rep. Trevor Lee, calls it a "priority bill to put Utahns first," arguing taxpayer dollars should go to citizens and legal residents, not undocumented immigrants, and that it reduces incentives for illegal immigration. "It's important to note that the definition of an alcohol use disorder is not defined by how much or how often you drink. It's defined by the problems that it causes you and some of the physical symptoms you might have from that," Martinez, who is the deputy scientific director at the Alcohol Research Group, told host William Brangham. If you've used DeepResearch in the Gemini app, you already know that it's a pioneering advance in assembling complex, grounded information on any topic imaginable—collecting an entire trove of material for you and writing a nuanced research report that summarizes the findings. But because NotebookLM is designed to manage and explore potentially hundreds of sources, the Deep Research report is only the beginning of your journey. In our integration, Deep Research gives you an overview all of the sources it found during its research phase, with annotated commentary explaining how each source related to your original query. There's much more to come on this front, but you can see in these two announcements how we see Notebook as both a workbench for conducting research and a publishing platform for sharing the results of that research once you're ready to make it public. Deep Research is rolling out this week to all users. The first two Google Research notebooks are live now, both of them deep dives into our most recent discoveries involving genetics and health.
