Gladiator was Ridley Scott’s best chance at an Oscar in 2001. He lost the award to Steven Soderbergh for Traffic, a decision I can’t necessarily argue with? Traffic is exceptional. But so is Gladiator. Crowe won Best Actor & this film won Best Picture. Ridley just came up short.
