What you need to know: Applies in the 27 states with no state-level NFA laws. 15 states still require a Form 4. The silencer must come from Silencer Shop or a Powered By Silencer Shop dealer. The Second Amendment is quintessential to the American story. There isn’t a United States without arms, there isn’t an end to the Civil War without arms. There isn’t any meaningful resistance to the horrors of the Jim Crow era without Southern Blacks being armed against tyrannical local and state governments, despite anti-2A laws to disarm them. The irony is some of those same laws have been cited today by states such as Hawaii and North Carolina to justify firearm restrictions. Some of the most consequential moments in American history have involved firearms in some capacity. It’s a rich part of our history that shouldn’t be infringed. Despite the statistical fact that law-abiding gun owners rarely ever commit firearms related offenses, despite the fact that Americans of all backgrounds enjoy the freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment for a multitude of purposes, anti-Second Amendment political leaders like the governor in my state of Virginia continue restricting the rights of Virginians under the guise of public safety. If the governor and her Democratic majority truly want to address public safety, they should focus on improving the education in underserved areas, focus on expanding economic opportunities that put men to work, providing a mentorship pipeline for young men, and incentivizing stronger family units. All of those efforts would produce far better outcomes in reducing crime than violating the rights of law-abiding gun owners. So we’ll continue to enjoy this right on the range, at shooting competitions, while hunting as we challenge the state in court for its obvious violation of the second amendment. The following groups need the support of gun owners as lawsuits are extremely costly: SAF, NRA, Gun Owners of America, National Association for Gun Rights,vcdl.org, Firearms Policy Coalition, NSSF—The Firearm Industry Trade Association

In some states, it is legal for someone under 18 to purchase a firearm from a private seller. Federal law does generally prohibits the sale of guns to individuals under 18. However, there are some exceptions and variations in state laws. Private sales are one of those exceptions, and in many states private sales can take place at gun shows without a background check being required. Can anyone honestly say they are OK with this?

This push stems from the current Minnesota state law, which largely prevents cities from enacting their own firearm restrictions. Kentucky doesn’t need to codify federal gun control. Yesterday in Judiciary Committee, legislators heard a bill proposal that would change Kentucky law to adopt a federal firearm restriction. I’m vehemently opposed to gun control at the federal level—why on earth would we want to codify it into a state law here in the Commonwealth?! As a stalwart defender of our Second Amendment Rights, it is my hope that federal firearm restrictions will be repealed by Congress, or at least overturned like the bump stock ban. The last thing we need is more gun control at the state level. Those of us working to repeal existing gun control laws already have our hands full! This is Kentucky, and our right to keep and bear arms is not negotiable. 🇺🇸

AG Pam Bondi praises law enforcement for cracking the case in the Charlie Kirk assassination and says justice will be served: "The FBI worked long and hard from day one and got this case solved. They worked hand in hand with the local agencies, then gave the gun to the ATF, got the DNA off the firearm, and the DNA matched the defendant in the case. The state government is prosecuting now, and they will most likely indict tomorrow or later this week. They will indict him for first-degree murder, and I think the governor has said they want to seek the death penalty, which is very real in Utah—and they still have the firing squad there. Then we, as federal prosecutors, will look to see if we have federal charges as well, and of course, if we do, we will also indict and work hand in hand with the state to ensure this individual faces the maximum extent of the law."

The Firearms Control Amendment Bill cannot be steamrolled through Parliament. In the Portfolio Committee on Police, I raised a serious concern with the Civilian Secretariat for Police Service. On slide 9 of their presentation, the Secretariat referred to the review of the Firearms Control Amendment Bill and used the words “to ensure enactment.” That wording matters. It suggests that the outcome has already been decided: push the Bill through, and treat Parliament and public participation as process boxes to tick afterwards. I asked the Secretariat directly whether they intend to advance the Bill in its current form, or whether they are prepared to substantially reconsider it based on actual evidence and stakeholder input. Because right now, the approach does not line up with the serious concerns raised by stakeholders, the slow Nedlac process, and the failures we already see in the current firearm control system. My question was simple: Why is the Department prioritising further legislative restriction before demonstrating measurable improvements in: -the Central Firearms Registry; -SAPS’s own firearm losses; -illegal firearm recovery; -firearm tracing; -ballistic capacity; and -actual enforcement against criminal possession of firearms? I also made it clear: the Portfolio Committee on Police is not a rubber stamp. The Secretariat then made an important concession. They accepted that the word “enactment” may need to be revised. More importantly, they confirmed that they have commissioned research into whether the current firearm legislation is actually being fully implemented, and what the failures in implementation are. The most important line from the response was this: “We can’t rush to the amendment of legislation if, for instance, it’s the failures of the implementation of the current legislation.” That is exactly the point. Marco van Niekerk captured this well in his article. The concern is that government appears to be moving towards new restrictions before properly diagnosing the real problem. He also points out that the failures are not theoretical: CFR dysfunction, state firearm losses, weak tracing capability, and limited enforcement against criminal possession of illegal firearms are all part of the problem. (Here is Marco’s article on The Common Sense: And to add insult to injury, this past week the SANDF confirmed that military weapons were stolen from Tek Base in Lyttelton. Reports state that three R4 assault rifles and a grenade launcher were stolen after a break-in was discovered on 27 April. Access was suspected to have been gained by cutting a hole in the perimeter fence, and a burglar door was forced open. That raises obvious questions. Where were the controls? Was there functioning CCTV? Were there alarm systems? Were there access logs? Were there armed patrols? Were inventories being audited? How can military-grade weapons be stolen from a base while government wants to tell law-abiding citizens that the problem is that they are not regulated enough? This is the contradiction. The State loses firearms. The State fails to secure military weapons. The State struggles with tracing and ballistics. The CFR remains dysfunctional. Criminals continue to possess illegal firearms. But the policy answer is apparently more restriction on lawful firearm owners. That is not good enough. South Africa does not need symbolic legislation. We need enforcement. We need working systems. We need accountability. We need functioning ballistics. We need a competent CFR. We need state-owned firearms secured. We need illegal firearms recovered. We need criminals prosecuted. Any revised Firearms Control Amendment Bill must be evidence-based, transparent and properly consulted on. No steamrolling. No predetermined enactment. No rubber-stamping. Fix the State’s failures first.

Last week, a federal judge put a seven-day hold on the NFA ruling so the Justice Department could run to the Fifth Circuit and stop it before it took effect. That clock ran out. DOJ did not stop it. So now we have a legally bizarre situation: two people can walk into the same gun store, reach for the same suppressor, and one may be covered by the ruling while the other may still be committing a federal felony. The judge did not turn off the NFA for all of America. The relief applies to the plaintiffs, their members, their customers, and the covered entities in the case. Living in one of the plaintiff states does not automatically cover you personally. That means dealers are stuck in the middle, customers are confused, and everyone is waiting to see whether DOJ appeals within the larger window it still has left. So yes, this is a real win. But no, don’t get stupid. If your suppressor or SBR is sitting in eForms, talk to your dealer, figure out whether you are actually covered, and do not take legal advice from a comment section. The tax went to zero, and the government still wanted the paperwork. That tells you what the paperwork was really for.

Last week, a federal judge put a seven-day hold on the NFA ruling so the Justice Department could run to the Fifth Circuit and stop it before it took effect. That clock ran out. DOJ did not stop it. So now we have a legally bizarre situation: two people can walk into the same gun store, reach for the same suppressor, and one may be covered by the ruling while the other may still be committing a federal felony. The judge did not turn off the NFA for all of America. The relief applies to the plaintiffs, their members, their customers, and the covered entities in the case. Living in one of the plaintiff states does not automatically cover you personally. That means dealers are stuck in the middle, customers are confused, and everyone is waiting to see whether DOJ appeals within the larger window it still has left. So yes, this is a real win. But no, don’t get stupid. If your suppressor or SBR is sitting in eForms, talk to your dealer, figure out whether you are actually covered, and do not take legal advice from a comment section. The tax went to zero, and the government still wanted the paperwork. That tells you what the paperwork was really for.
