Psyonix please test your maps before you release them 🙃 Yet another one with a different mesh causing TAS divergence and I think the boost pads are smaller, although that could technically just be an illusion because i cannot set it up identically if the map mesh isn't identical

@pulse_max this would explain why i often don't pick up as many pads on this map when I swear i go over them. nice to know its not a placebo ig 😭

Holy Crap you're right. I remembered that there was a pad hitbox plugin so I quickly downloaded. Wasted boost until I was at 0 and did a comparison, you can tell in the regular Neo Tokyo I accumulated 2 Pads (24) whilst barely being inside said hitbox. Tested and confirmed!!

The best solution would be to have all levels load the literal same package which has: • All collision geometry, hidden • Goals, spawns, other hidden game things • Boost pads Underwater_P.upk (possibly Underwater_Field) is 95% of the way. Then all new maps are purely visuals.

✨ I made a little demo of #vibejam sponsor Tripo and how you can use it to generate assets for your games In this case I'm generating an apartment flat that's half destroyed and open for my drone sim to fly around, take cover and shoot at enemies from First I write the prompt and select Nano Banana to generate an image first, I get a few different ones, and I select the one I like Then that one is converted into a 3d object called a Smart Mesh Smart Mesh is different than regular image-to-3d models because usually you get issues with uneven polygon distribution, too dense geometry and poor edge flow, so while you think you save time with generating it with AI you end up doing lots of editing after to fix the topology which kinda defeats the point Smart Mesh doesn't have any of this, it's fast and clean low-poly models you can drop into your game Anyway, after generating the model I can then see it in 3d, and if I don't like it, regenerate it, or if I like it start texturing it Once that's done, I export it as a GLB, FBX or OBJ and drop it in (usually I use GLB as ThreeJS seems to prefer that), in my case I just drop the URL into Cursor and let it figure out the placement of the asset into my game!

#TheUnfolding: When things get too complicated in Cursor, get Claude Desktop to write you a little helper in html that you can run in Chrome. I've had a very confusing time with AI trying to get my concept for rivers (fluid channels) and paths across, so I worked with Claude step-by-step and I think we are almost there. This is a beautiful system. It means I can have fluids and paths on the same hex. Paths can cross rivers. Rivers can enter and leave any face. I could have two different fluid types passing through. I can widen and narrow the rivers (they could be full face to meet a full water hex). Rivers can even meet (but I probably won't attempt that just yet). Once perturbed it will look very natural. It's more triangles that a simple hex mesh but I only need them when I have fluids and paths - so it shouldn't push the triangle count in the mesh up too much. And I could LOD them if needed - but I'd like to see distant lava glowing in the night! #vibejam with @levelsio

I think this was an evening well spent! I was curious to see if I could do this in #Blender and it's actually pretty simple! All I did was animate a "cutter" mesh and let that boolean into the head! Then just hand drew corrections using Grease Pencil! #b3d #AcrossTheSpiderVerse

Indiedev day 79: retro wireframe renderer with trackball functionality! As someone noted, my retro UI was missing rotating wireframes, I added one! In the drone loaout screen you can now see a very low poly version of the drone in proper retro fashion! I created a cross platform wireframe renderer and trackball funcionality to interact with the mesh. For fun I also made a world space position floor function for the mesh vertexes so that the mesh jitters a bit when it rotates, mimicking the unstable 3D geometry from games in the 80s and before. The UI is still completely unfinished, but I decided to post the cool wireframe feature as I just finished it today. #indiegame #buildinpublic

John Searle: consciousness cannot be an illusion and here's the argument that makes it undeniable Science has a long track record of overturning our intuitions. The table looks solid, it isn't. The sun appears to set, it doesn't. We've learned to accept that appearances deceive us, and that reality lies beneath. But philosopher John Searle argues there is exactly one domain where this move simply cannot be made: consciousness itself. "Where consciousness is concerned, you can't make the standard appearance/reality distinction that we make for the rest of the world." His logic is simple. When a scientist tells you the table isn't really solid and that it's a cloud of micro-particles, you can accept that. The appearance (solidity) and the reality (particles) are two different things, and you can hold them apart. Same with the sunset. It looks like the sun moves. It doesn't. The rotation of the Earth creates an illusion. Appearance and reality come apart and you understand the gap. Now try applying that same logic to your conscious experience. Someone claims your pain isn't really there, that your awareness is just an illusion. But here, Searle says, the distinction collapses entirely: "Where the existence of consciousness is concerned, the appearance is the reality. There's no way that some guy can come to me and convince me I'm not conscious if I think I'm conscious, I am conscious." This is a structural point about what consciousness fundamentally is. For every other phenomenon, the appearance can be explained away by pointing to what's "really" happening underneath. But consciousness is the very medium in which all appearances occur. There is no "underneath" to retreat to. To say consciousness is an illusion, you would first need to be conscious of the illusion. The argument defeats itself on contact.

The #geometrynodes Curve Normals Proxy Rig is almost ready! You place it on the face and adjust some controls to line things up, and it just works. The controls can be worked with in lots of different ways. You can attach it to an existing rig or animate it. Those bones are controlling a mesh which controls the curve points, so you can also make Shapekeys on the meshes instead and Drive them to match other expression keys! The forehead above the top curve blends to Radial Normals, and under the chin blends to the actual mesh Normals. I'm adding the rest of the controls to allow completely arbitrary Normals per curve point, and then its just cleanup and it can be released! (There's lots more that can be added to it like falloff and interpolation controls, but if I try to put everything into the first version it'll never release.)
