‼️ALERT: ETHEREUM'S TOP 1,000 WALLETS COULD BE DRAINED IN NINE DAYS WITHOUT A QUANTUM UPGRADE Google's quantum research team warns that a future fast-clock quantum computer could compromise Ethereum's 1,000 highest-value accounts in less than nine days. Those accounts collectively hold approximately 20.5 million $ETH. Bitcoin users can avoid exposing their public keys. Ethereum users cannot. The moment an Ethereum user sends their first transaction, their public key is permanently exposed on the blockchain, according to the report. It stays exposed indefinitely. The paper identifies five distinct quantum attack vectors on Ethereum. Among the most alarming is the threat to smart contract admin keys. Those keys control over $200 billion in stablecoins and tokenised real-world assets. Ethereum's Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism also relies on quantum-vulnerable BLS signatures. A sufficiently advanced quantum attacker could use this to compromise the blockchain's finality itself. There is a silver lining. The Ethereum Foundation is already researching post-quantum alternatives. The paper suggests this gives Ethereum a potential advantage over Bitcoin in executing an orderly transition to quantum-safe cryptography.

What a day! 🤯 Algorand was mentioned 32 times by Google in its whitepaper on quantum risks, highlighting its leading work in PQC! Not sure everyone realizes how BIG this is, massive credibility for $ALGO and huge recognition for the team! 👏 Algorand has been one of the few blockchains/DLTs taking the quantum threat seriously for years, as it's not a question of if but when. Post-quantum implementation takes time and resources, it needs to be anticipated! The past few months have been incredible for $ALGO on that front, as it became one of the first major chains to execute a post-quantum transaction on mainnet using NIST-selected Falcon signatures! Not to mention the great news from a few days ago, with Chris Peikert officially joining Algorand Foundation from AT after the merge! So exciting, as Chris is literally one of the world's leading experts in post-quantum cryptography! What a chance for Algorand to have him and some of the best experts in PQC on its team! The proposal is designed to protect dormant wallets, including Satoshi Nakamoto's holdings. Owners would not need to move funds publicly in the meantime. The proposal is a direct counterpoint to BIP-361. Developer Jameson Lopp put that proposal forward in mid-April. It would freeze quantum-vulnerable addresses on a five-year deadline.

Enterprise wallets can switch as early as this year. Research the foundation (Build on Stellar) cites suggests that cracking Stellar's cryptography needs far fewer qubits than previously thought, and NIST has pulled its danger zone forward to 2029. The last stage is the big one: a future cutoff where old keys stop working entirely. Dormant accounts could be locked forever.
