With all due respect Raila, stories from the 1980s won’t solve the crises of 2025. Today’s youth are facing unemployment, over-taxation, systemic exclusion and many other issues. Recycling liberation tales from decades ago wont help.

I arranged the meeting, they met with Rubia, Oneko and after deliberations, the decision was taken that they would be supported. Thirty-six years ago, Saba Saba proved that ordinary citizens, united by courage and conviction, can change the course of history. I remember helping to organize those efforts. Like many women in the struggle, I understood the unique risks we faced if arrested. The work of that generation was not in vain but it remains unfinished. Today, those gains are under threat from leaders who use public resources to enrich themselves, who deploy goons against citizens asking legitimate questions, and who ship our youth abroad as cheap labour rather than invest in them at home. Before every election, there will be handouts, we have to vote with our conscience and not with their cash. That is how we honour the spirit of Saba Saba. #sabasaba

I’ve seen the video of Ida Odinga seeking forgiveness on behalf of her late husband, Raila. It’s unfortunate - Raila had plenty of time to say it himself. Even in his final days, he was reportedly on the phone with people like Gabriel Oguda . A simple voice note would’ve sufficed. Instead, he doubled down on joining Kenya Kwanza. He even undermined our protests by calling a rival rally at Kamukunji on Saba Saba - abandoning the very principles he once championed. What’s needed now is accountability. Once the session was adjourned, we were released, and I proceeded to Senator Edwin Sifuna’s office for a productive discussion regarding our planned "Linda Mwananchi" activities. It was encouraging to see the city remain calm as I walked to my office to address the media. It is time we recognize the significance of this day; Saba Saba ought to be a public holiday.

Many people were killed while attempting to reach Kamukunji grounds. After we came out of detention, we formed FORD, after forming FORD we said we were going back to Kamukunji. Eventually, I was moved away from here and taken into exile. Our people braved it and managed to match all the way to Kamukunji #SabaSaba
