What’s driving the upcoming record breaking cold snap?? It’s widespread warmth (up-to 30F above normal) and intense blocking in the Arctic/ Greenland/N Canada. That is squeezing out the (tropospheric) Cold Polar Vortex and forcing it south deep into the US. While it may be tempting to blame Global warming-low Arctic sea ice-& Arctic amplification for this, the climate change component is likely enhancing, but is not the primary driver. Teleconnections to various natural oscillations (and the stratosphere) working in tandem are often the culprit in these high latitude blocks. Climate change simply piggy backs and makes the blocking - and amp’d pattern - more extreme. (But it does NOT make the cold air, colder which is a common misconception)

What matters for the Arctic matters for all EU Member States. The EU is committed to contributing to a safe, peaceful, resilient and prosperous Arctic region, for the benefit of the people who live there and of Europe as a whole. Geopolitical challenges in the region require a joint European response and coordinated action on climate action, sustainable development, resilience and security. We need to build a ring of partners from the Baltic to the Arctic and the North Atlantic to ensure a comprehensive, rules-based approach to security and defence across the region. Thank you, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, for convening the first-ever European Arctic Summit.

This is a beautiful art piece; it speaks more than words could. The artist draws inspiration from the Kayayei (female head porters in Ghana), engraving their faces on each pan. Kayayei are mostly young girls and women from rural northern regions who migrate to cities like Accra and Kumasi to help carry heavy goods in markets for traders. 📍La Foundation for the Art 🇬🇭

That awkward moment.... When only one side of the plane is producing condensation 😉 How much more proof do we all need? Our air, water and soil are being contaminated with chemicals, heavy metals and nanoparticles ☠️ Remember, we never consented to this #CrimesAgainstHumanity Many thanks to Rishiisabell for sharing this video

Hurricane Polo is one of the most incredible tropical cyclones in modern history: - Went from a tropical storm to Category 5 in ~21 hours - Reached Category 5 intensity three separate times - Second-most intense eastern Pacific hurricane on record (892 mb) - Forecast to make the first documented major-hurricane landfall on the west coast of Baja California tonight - Spent more than 60 hours at Category 5 intensity, an all-time record for the Northeast Pacific - Remnant moisture will bring widespread heavy rain and flooding to the Southwest and central United States - Fastest storm on record in the eastern Pacific to intensify from a tropical depression to a Category 5 hurricane

Did you know that microplastics have been found everywhere from the deepest ocean trenches to Arctic snow? The harm of microplastics lies in their ability to absorb and concentrate toxic chemicals, as well as their potential to be ingested by a wide range of organisms, from zooplankton to whales. Once inside living beings, these plastics can release harmful chemicals, disrupt hormones, and accumulate up the food chain, ultimately ending up in the food we eat and the water we drink. The full impact of microplastics on human and environmental health is still being studied, but the evidence so far is concerning. Reducing our plastic footprint, supporting research, and implementing policies to limit microplastic pollution are crucial steps to address this emerging global crisis. Action Now: #SaveSoil #ConsciousPlanet #SaveSoilFixClimateChange #SoilForClimateAction #PlanetvsPlastics #EndPlastics
