Now, in our time, the world is at a crossroads. Local wars can provoke a global collapse. The suffering in which a particular nation is thrown can drag neighboring nations into the abyss. It is precisely the cooperation and unity of all who truly value peace that can prevent catastrophes and stop the suffering of peoples. In this, every nation matters. All nations are equal, and every nation deserves respect. Only such an approach can realize the right of every child of every nation to a world in which there are more examples of achieving peace than stories of its destruction. I am grateful that in such difficult, turbulent times, the Paris Peace Forum remains active and contributes to global cooperation. May our joint efforts be fruitful!

IGP DISU ATTENDS UN CHIEFS OF POLICE SUMMIT, CALLS FOR STRONGER GLOBAL POLICE COOPERATION The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening international policing cooperation as a critical pathway to advancing global peace, security, and sustainable development. The IGP made the call while participating in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 7th to 8th July 2026. The summit brought together Ministers, Inspectors-General of Police, Chiefs of Police, and senior representatives of regional and professional policing organisations from across the world to discuss strategies for strengthening international peace, security, and development through enhanced collaboration between national police services and United Nations policing. Addressing the summit, IGP Disu noted that modern criminal networks increasingly exploit artificial intelligence, encrypted communications, and cyber-enabled platforms to operate across borders with growing sophistication, thereby challenging traditional policing models. He emphasized that while technology presents significant opportunities for law enforcement through artificial intelligence, digital forensics, and geospatial intelligence, public trust remains the foundation of effective policing. According to the IGP, innovation must reinforce transparency, accountability, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law. The IGP further advocated greater international cooperation, capacity building, and equitable access to digital policing capabilities for all member states, stressing that the benefits of technological advancement should not be limited to a few technologically advanced nations. António Guterres, as the new Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the UN. As the Amb. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of H.E. Barram I conveyed his warm greetings and that of the people of Sierra Leone to the UNSG, and the shared inspiration that the excellent relations between Sierra Leone and the UN will be maintained and strengthened. H.E. the UN Secretary-General responded by stating that “Sierra Leone is a very important and reliable partner of the United Nations, very committed to multilateralism and a symbol in the African continent of not only democratic values but also strong commitment to our common objectives - peace and security, sustainable development, climate action and human rights”. Sierra Leone and the United Nations share an enduring relationship. A partnership that has seen the consolidation of peace, democratic governance, and the pursuit of sustainable development in Sierra Leone; and an active principled voice at the United Nations as it carries out its important mandate of maintaining international peace and security, promoting, and protecting fundamental human rights and cooperating to achieve sustainable development.
