Delighted to attend the inaugural session of the 79th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia in Dili, Timor-Leste. On the sidelines, bilateral engagements were held with Ms. Geela Ali, Minister of Health, Maldives, and Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health, Sri Lanka, with the agenda focused on strengthening health cooperation and advancing collaboration on shared priorities. An engagement with WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus provided an opportunity to exchange views on key regional and global health priorities. India remains committed to strengthening partnerships and advancing shared priorities for better health outcomes for all.

#AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing threats to health and development of our time. The irony of AMR is that it’s fuelled by the overuse of antibiotics yet more people die from lack of access to antibiotics. World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the target set by countries to reduce annual global deaths associated with bacterial AMR by 10% by 2030. I couldn't agree more with my sister Mia Amor Mottley that we must hold ourselves accountable to the people we serve and deliver on the commitments made today. Together, we can protect these powerful medicines and the people whose lives depend on them, now and in the future. #UNGA

.World Health Organization (WHO) flew in more essential medical supplies to #Myanmar 🇲🇲 last night to support life-saving services for the earthquake-affected people. “This flight brings a message of solidarity and support from WHO to the people of Myanmar,” says Saima Wazed, Regional Director WHO South-East Asia. This was the second flight load of supplies from WHO’s logistics hub in #Dubai to Myanmar for the #earthquake response. WHO has so far provided nearly 139 tons of essential medical supplies, including medicines, trauma kits, surgical kits and tents. The needs of the earthquake-affected population are immense. WHO has appealed for US$8 million to support ongoing operations. Dental caries, gum disease, tooth loss, and oral cancers affect nearly half of the world’s population. And yet, people continue to face challenges and inequalities in access to oral health care, particularly in low-income communities and other vulnerable groups. I thank #Thailand for hosting the first World Health Organization (WHO) meeting on global oral health — it plays an important role in the preparations for the 2025 #UNGA High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases.

#AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) threatens to send the world back into the era before antibiotics and other antimicrobials, when a routine infection could be deadly. Addressing AMR, and preventing its further spread, requires leadership from all Member States, accountable stakeholders, and sustained financial support. Ahead of the #UNGA high-level meeting, I thank communities, health workers, youth organizations, parliamentarians, the private sector and the people directly affected by drug-resistant infections for joining yesterday’s multi-stakeholder hearing. By working together, we can chart a clear path towards a safer world for all.

It was an honour to meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV yesterday at the Vatican. I expressed my gratitude for championing every person’s right to health, especially the most vulnerable communities living in emergencies. We discussed collaboration on health and peace, advancing mental health, the impact of climate on health, and the serious implications of declining global funding for health in the short and long term. We also discussed fostering global solidarity to advance #HealthForAll. There is no peace without health and no health without peace.
