Remember when we warned that SAVE Act would create unnecessary barriers for eligible voters? The response was always the same: “Just get the paperwork.” Well, Florida is showing us what “just get the paperwork” actually looks like. A Florida woman and Army veteran found that out when she ran... show more

Well as the Repubs will probably tell you, it's all her fault for not putting her important documents in a flood proof, volcano proof, earthquake proof, impenetrable vault, guarded by a revenant army, protected by a dragon, deep within the bowels of the earth like the rest of us. So obviously she doesn't get to vote.

😂

Most people would be missing a document after years of life changes, we already have voter registration requirements proven to prevent fraud with the exception of elon musk.

That’s right. This is just silliness.

@DixieDroo We need more local news stories to demonstrate what Americans go through when getting a Real ID, and less than 100 days to the election.

@DittiePE @DixieDroo And unless the Real ID is an Enhanced Drivers license from WA, MN, MI, NY, or VT, it doesn’t meet the requirements of the SAVE act to register to vote. People love to crow that if you’re already registered you don’t need to worry, but what happens when you’re purged?

@Robynje13 @DittiePE Exactly and they’re trying to purge as much as they can get away with, my DC real ID gets scanned even sending packages now.

It took me six months to get my birth certificate ( flood) and divorce papers from 40 years ago. It also cost over $100 and a lot of unnecessary pain. My Real ID still isn't good enough for Save Act.

Yeah, it’s a lot. And right now people can’t afford that.

@Dixie202021 I got a passport at the end of 2024. I tell everyone, you need a passport. They have a passport card version that is cheaper, but travel is limited to North America.

@Dixie202021 Right now I’m struggling to buy food. Ground beef is $11 a pound. Do you think I have money for a passport card or regular version? And that’s the whole point

@akuma_river @Dixie202021 Where are you where ground beef is $11/lb? I am buying it for under $4/lb in expensive Southern CA.

@akuma_river @Dixie202021 Northern PA

It was designed to do exactly this.

💯 exactly

We do not have a voter fraud problem, we have a Republicon always cheating problem! The Lindsey defense, do not trust your obvious conclusions.

Also factor in that TRUMP directly reduced the number of State Dept STAFF who work on passport issuance. 2017 hiring freeze - also banned public libraries from serving as passport facilities. Also implemented complex forms. He is a monster -create a huge need/took away the staff.

That’s right. He did. He creates the problem, makes it worse and then walks away and blames everybody else.

They know what they’re doing. Yes, most people can get a Real ID or passport. But a lot of people can’t or just won’t bother. It’s a numbers game. Republicans fare better when fewer people vote. It’s been that way for 60 years.

Facts.

And then there is common-law marriages where women assume their husband’s name. There is no documentation for that.

Yep, you’re right. Too many options.

My Ohio county charges $32 for a certified copy of a birth certificate. Not everyone can afford that, but that's the point, isn't it?

That’s three days of meals

But even a Florida "REAL ID" isn't enough to prove citizenship and the wouldn't be able to use it to register to vote. Only 5 states have "REAL ID" that prove citizenship : Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington. The other 45 state-issued ID's don't suffice.

Yea. But they’re implementation of this approach shows how problematic the save act would be.

Yes, exactly. The SAVE Act's bar is impossibly high.

💯

Plus, all the replacement documents cost money and aren’t guaranteed on time for elections. They don’t want women to vote.

Exactly

The SAVE Act proposes to solve a problem THAT DOES NOT EXIST. The conservative Heritage Foundation’s nationwide database of alleged instances of voter fraud identifies only 99 total cases of suspected noncitizen voting going back to the year 2000.

@1zzyzyx1 Another reason I FUCKING HATE @Republicans

@1zzyzyx1 @Republicans For real.

I had to request my marriage certificate from 30+ years ago to get my Real id. I had the divorce record from 20 years ago that showed my married name, but that wasn’t good enough.

Same!

He’s another!

Why ANOTHER ID? Why isn't a Real ID not good enough?

Very good question. But it’s not.

@DittiePE Its illegal for non citizens to vote. Out of billions of votes over the past 20+ yrs, there has never been an amount that changed the outcome of an election. More citizens have voted illegally than immigrants. The real agenda is to prevent women, minorities, & elderly from voting

Fixing my daughter's error-filled birth certificate from almost 27 years ago and the first round took the state three months to reply.

I am convinced Trump would not have thought of voter fraud if he hadn’t done it himself.

GOP logic: You broads don't get it, you shouldn't be driving, and you definitely should not be voting. This is your role: - Barefoot in the kitchen - Pregnant - Making sandwiches and fetching cold Miller Lite on demand

Trump wants this passed so he can exclude millions of woman from voting.. pure and simple.. He hates women.. especially strong ones.. 👍👍💯💥

When you have to spend money on docs for the sole purpose of voting, that's an unconstitutional poll tax.

Talk about how many women will have to show a birth certificate or passport to register to vote, and the name on the passport or other ID will have to show the same name as that on the birth certificate. 79% of women in the U.S. take their husband's last name when they marry.

The Heritage Foundation’s Election Fraud Database has identified between 10 & 77 noncitizen voting cases from 1999–2023 out of 30 million+ immigrants From 1999-2023 a lot more than 77 women who are American citizens have changed their last names after marriage Voter suppression

@DrOrbros In PA, the deadline for real id to fly was 5/2025. The lines at all the DMVs were ridiculous and were like that for months. The was the impact for people having PTO/time to wait. The save act would be so much worse.

My husband (dead now) would not be able to vote. His legal last name was Johnston. But he took his stepfather's last name when he was 17. No legal adoption, no paperwork. Nobody cared in the 1960s. He used that name his entire life. But no proof.

If she is too ignorant to figure out how to get a copy of her marirage license then she has no businesses voting.

My mom had the same issue, my mom got married in 1977 and divorced in 1983, but didnt change her name back, When she went for her real ID, she needed her marriage certificate from her divorced marage of 43 years. But she couldn’t remember where she was married and her x is dead.

@twistedgoat8 #SaveTrumpsAssAct.

I have a real ID. Pain in the neck to get. Had to make an appointment 2 months in advance and drive 45 minutes and still wait an hour. They wouldn't accept one of my documents, so I had to make an appt. to go back. I had to pay $40 for this headache. Passport cost me $160

It sounds like older women would have the most problems. That's half the GOPs voters

@DSKnyc1

It took me 3 trips to the DMV, plus 2 trips to the county courthouse for my original marriage certificate, and I missed work due to DMV and court hours—to get a Real ID. (And yes, the 💰 too!) If you’ve never been to NJ DMV, well…that’s a treat. And I had to go THREE times!

@wtrmlnmntg I have never been so thankful I refused to change my name when I got married. It’s an antiquated custom.
