@RepSummerLee There is a better way to solve this problem. Let student loan debt be dischargeable in bankruptcy court like any other debt. Student loan debt is the ONLY debt that can never be discharged. Just have Congress vote on a bill and it could be done next week.

As a graduate with loans that I did pay off, it took over 15 years. The issue with student loans is the predatory repayment structure that is quite similar to credit card debt. You are forced in this interest payment structure whether you want to or not. You have to pay the loans sequentially while that interest is accruing on the latter loans and you can’t do a damn thing about it. This is where paying on an $80k loan for 15 years and still owe $80k because of interest charges. God forbid if you lose your job for 6 months to a year, you’ll never get on top.

Republicans, including President Trump, have attacked Governor Abigail Spanberger over that bill and others. Spanberger has pushed back, saying the bill (along with others) never passed the General Assembly and therefore never reached her desk. Yesterday, I asked Governor Abigail Spanberger if a bill to tax streaming services, dry cleaning, and more does make it to her desk as governor in the future, would she veto it or would she sign it into law?
