Replacing parking intermittently throughout residential streets with green storm water infrastructure is a sustainable way to mitigate flooding (Meristem Design)

@MeristemDesign No it wouldn’t lmao. Bioswales are designed to treat storm water during/after normal precipitation events. They do nothing to mitigate flash floods. It’s not a flood control infrastructure. They’re use to water quality improvement.

@MeristemDesign Put it at intersections as daylighting / curb bump outs and you might also save lives at the same time. (Just want to choose species that don’t grow too tall!)

Storm surge is when the ocean level rises from storms off shore usually hurricanes are accompanied by storm surge. Also in combination with lunar high tide. If there is a combination of these things with flash flooding the entire ground area simply goes below sea level and the water cannot be drained out. In NYC many areas close to water flooded for this reason. The only way to escape this is from an increase in elevation.

@MeristemDesign My ass. These things could never absorb water in the amounts needed. I am in the industry and know a thing or two about these. I used to train the parks department in maintaining these. They're pretty, but useless for storm mitigation.

@MeristemDesign Who maintains it, at what cost, for how many decades. Pull out the trash, the weeds, the rats, etc. ? Not saying its bad, just it needs money, every year
