Replit CEO Amjad Masad says AGI won't replace you—unless you’re a code monkey. AGI is a remote worker. If you have one, you'll spin up 100 more to execute your ideas. But the person who understands what people want—who can dream, design, and ship—that role stays irreplaceable.

Amjad Masad on Sequoia Capital's Training Data:

AI won't replace you, but a person using AI will. Join 500,000+ readers and learn how to use AI in just 5 minutes a day (for free).

In the short term, he's absolutely right. In the longer term (2030+?), as AIs' capabilities grow and expand, things might change: they could eventually become better than us at understanding human needs, desires, and wants.

then it isnt agi. truly tho. general intelligence is an explainer, which is what ai is not right now. we have to give it our creativity for it to work, agi does not have that problem and therefore doesn't "need" us per se

I guess we all have our own idea of what AGI is, but what he is describing to me is not it.

People invent mental pacifiers in order to run away from fear. The only way to stop the fear is to face it. Understand, solve and make it boring. An e/acc guy running away from here and now:

I expect that the definition and expectations of what AGI is and what it does is going to shift dramatically the closer to achieving it that we get.

So maybe the product manager role is safe after all? 😂

Only the top PMs. What is the ‘code monkey’ version for a PM? 🙊

I agree with this.

NONE OF THIS IS HAPPENING - this is all an online fantasy. These companies that all pretend AI writes code have tons of job openings for developers and engineers. When OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft all announce they are laying off all their devs, I will believe it.
