This is the junction of 1st Parklands Avenue and Masari Road. All buildings on the left of the road from Mpaka Road to Limuru Road have been erected on the banks of a river. The road behind was washed away after the river reclaimed its course. The developers should finance the construction of the entire 1st Parklands Avenue to standard accommodating the developments, build a stronger canal, storm water drainage and pedestrian walkways.

I was at Aba to inspect a couple of roads that are undergoing rehabilitation. I am happy with the progress of work, particularly at Cemetry Road. The contractor has also taken the initiative to desilt the drainage system, which demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a long-lasting and sustainable road infrastructure. It is worth noting that the rehabilitation efforts extend beyond Cemetry Road, with a total of nine roads currently undergoing partial and comprehensive rehabilitation. All the roads are being handled by reputable companies, including CCECC, Craneburg, and MCC. Regardless of the weather conditions, we remain dedicated to the task of rebuilding Aba for the benefit of our people.

Areas including Sebana Road, Clock Tower,forest mall, golf course and Allen Road experienced flash floods, but in most of them the water cleared within about seven minutes, compared to past incidents where flooding would last for hours or days and disrupt businesses immensly. This improvement follows recent Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) drainage upgrades, including the construction of 16 crossing culverts along Allen Road and Sebana Road into Nakivubo Channel has increased the city’s capacity to tame storm water. Additional works are ongoing, including longitudinal drainage along Ben Kiwanuka Street and a planned box culvert on Namirembe Road under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Project. Two buildings, Totala Business and Qualicell, experienced basement flooding due to drainage challenges internal to them, and the KCCA drainage team has been quickly deployed with suction trucks to support them evacuate the water. As drainage improvement works continue, inconvenience caused by this natural occurrence is regreted. Our call on residents, traders & building owners is to dispose of waste responsibly and avoid blocking drainage channels. Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is working to build a cleaner, safer, and more flood-resilient Kampala.
