Easy, American capitalism... It looks like that because U.S. companies offshored their manufacturing to China.

Chinese capitalism is a little different. I'm not 100% clear on the details (and would love some actual knowledgeable feedback rather than useless simplistic memes), but my understanding is that Chinese capitalism is largely state-directed, via local government (industrial specialisation by city), which creates a kind of competitive environment - cities competing with each other - that helps to mitigate the downsides of a fully central-government led allocation of resources. Nevertheless, the scale of capital misallocation is still significant, and is likely to create massive problems for China within the next few years. It's possible that they have gone far enough in positioning themselves as the world's factory that they will be able to muddle through and then thrive again, but that's not certain.

It's not capitalism, just like the United States hasn't been a truly capitalist nation since FDR's New Deal... But, knowledgeable feedback is best understood in the context of global monetary policies and goals: I can share some keys to unlock further understanding... To better understand what China calls "democracy," I'd highly suggest reading the "whole process people's democracy" framework directly after reading (or rereading) the doctrine of fascism or really anything by Giovanni Gentile re: econ. Then, the red-green alliance (managing the decline of the west)... Check out the "Well-being" economic/ monetary models implemented under Biden's (Green New Deal) AKA the Federal Plan for Equitable Long-Term Recovery and Resilience, such as the 30x30, IOT/IOB, Justice40 playbooks, carbon markets, etc. It's identical to whole process people's democracy. China's position within the U.N., OECD, IMF, CBD, WHO, and WTO are also pivotal to understand in the context of centralized control.

China is still far behind America. Over 30 million peasants still live in caves, without running water, indoor flushing toilets, indoor heating and paved roads. 600 million peasants earn lesser than 140 US dollars per month.

Because they borrowed & spent huge sums of money to prop up a phony GDP by building huge (poorly built) buildings that are empty. No is buying any of them. All so they could inflate the numbers. Their entire economy is a house of cards. It will eventually fall in on itself.

Because the Chinese government adopted elements of capitalism as an economic strategy in the 1980s. Don’t worry though. Regular people aren’t allowed to participate or benefit. Only ‘approved’ party members have that privilege.

Better look at the poor quality of the building. It best we do not have that type or we get this. Different cities in china, etc, bad infrastructure, no water to deal with fires. A huge spate of curroption.

From Gemini: What is the system called in China where the Communist party still is in control but they've introduced a large degree of capitalism? The system you are describing is officially called the Socialist Market Economy (SME). This term was formally adopted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1992 to describe a hybrid model that combines authoritarian political control with market-driven economic growth. Key Components of the System The system is often summarized by several different names depending on whether you are looking at it from an official, ideological, or external perspective: * Socialism with Chinese Characteristics: This is the broad ideological umbrella used by the CCP. It suggests that Marxism-Leninism must be adapted to China's specific cultural and historical context. * State Capitalism: Many Western economists and political scientists use this term. It describes a system where the state plays the role of the primary "capitalist"—owning major industries (State-Owned Enterprises or SOEs), directing investment through state banks, and intervening in the private sector to ensure it serves national goals. * Reform and Opening-Up (Gaige Kaifang): This refers to the historical period of transition started by Deng Xiaoping in 1978, which moved China away from a strictly Maoist planned economy toward the market-oriented system it has today. How the "Freedom" vs. "Control" Balance Works The relationship between business and the party is distinct from Western capitalism in a few major ways: How it functions in China Individuals can start businesses, own property, and accumulate massive wealth (e.g., Alibaba, Tencent), but they do not have absolute "property rights" in the Western sense. By law, private companies—even foreign ones—must host "Party Committees" or cells within the company to ensure business decisions align with the CCP’s broader social and political goals. The "commanding heights" of the economy (energy, banking, telecommunications) remain under direct government ownership. The system operates on a "dual-track": the market sets prices for most goods, but the state sets the strategic direction for long-term development. Why do they call it "Socialist"? The CCP argues that this is a "primary stage of socialism." According to this theory, China must first develop its "productive forces" (technology and wealth) using market tools before it can eventually achieve a fully communist society. In the meantime, the "Socialist" label justifies the Party's absolute monopoly on political power.
