Robots don’t just need better hardware They need models that understand requests, plan next steps, and keep going until the job’s done. That’s what makes nature will's new physical-world foundation Model Natura-1 interesting

One capability that stands out is zero-shot instruction following Instead of training a robot around one fixed task, the model is designed to take instructions it hasn’t specifically been trained for and translate them into physical actions That’s a very different direction for robotics

Because the real world doesn’t follow a script Objects move Environments change Things don’t always go exactly as expected A useful robot needs to understand the goal and adapt its behavior rather than simply replaying a predefined sequence

Then there’s dexterous control Physical intelligence isn’t only about deciding what to do The robot also needs precise control over how it interacts with objects and its environment That connection between understanding and physical action is where things get really interesting

The bigger challenge is long-horizon execution Real tasks usually involve multiple steps Understand the instruction → plan the actions → interact with the environment → adjust when something changes → continue toward the goal Getting a model to handle that entire chain is a major piece of building more capable robots

Put these capabilities together and the goal becomes much bigger than teaching robots individual skills It’s about creating a general foundation that can connect instructions, perception, control and execution in the physical world That’s the direction physical AI needs to move

We’ve spent years building AI that can understand and generate things on a screen The next challenge is making AI that can understand and act in the real world Nature Will’s new model is a step in that direction More details →

@naturewill Robotics gets much more interesting when the model can adapt instead of replaying fixed actions

@naturewill The shift from scripted robots to instruction-following robots is huge

@naturewill Zero-shot instruction following could be one of the biggest pieces of general-purpose robotics

@naturewill That's a great point. It's exciting to see how these new models are pushing the boundaries of what robots can do.

@naturewill The real world is messy, so robots need to handle more than predefined scenarios
