If the lead was black and nothing else was changed he would have been glowing over it.

Shit take Roger.

Proves so called critic have sometimes bad opinions and can be wrong. Everybody loves Gladiator.

Same idiot who picked nutty professor 2 as one of his movies of the year. Dunno why everyone treated this guy like a sage

Why didn't you like Gladiator and you lead with the "special effects"?

I have come to reclaim Rome for my people!

Ebert gave Die hard and Thumbs down because he was obsessed how one of the cops acted really dumb and couldn't comment on all the great things in the film.

Garbage movie

TIL Roger Ebert was always half-blind.

The opening battle does have issues with special effects as Ridley had to recover the film from under exposure and so cut out frames, giving it that juddery look - which by happy accident makes it so memorable. The Colosseum wasn’t realistic. Crowe famously dissed the dialogue.

He’s not wrong

i think subsequently after seeing Troy or some other swords and sandals epic trend that Gladiator started with early 2000s , ebert said he was too harsh on gladiator

He was correct. I didn't hate The Gladiator, but I remember walking out of the theater feeling it was a bit silly, not visually impressive and maybe 20 minutes too long.

I remember thinking it was dumb when it came out. Apparently it's a classic because the sequel was much worse?

Funny how this is exactly what could be said today about Gladiator 2, actually.

Imagine if he saw the second one

Terrible review.

The Colisseum was a shadowy thing in the background? Did we watch the same film? It's well lit and looks quite amazing in many scenes. This guy is a total goose.

Finally! Someone agrees with me!

Its Gladiator. Just 'Gladiator'.

Ebert is an overrated blowhard. NB: he gave "The Empire Strikes Back" and "The Godfather Part II" 3 stars in his original reviews.

Ebert was a blob

Shitty movie. My question is this: How hungover is Charlie Rose in this interview?

I give up

real

Argue over Gladiator, but he was really wrong about L'avventura. Eventually changed his mind. Not great on his ratings. Pretty solid writer though.

Fantastic film but the battle at the beginning makes you think it could have been an epic War-romance and political bi-optic about Roman Empire corruption, conquest, power against Germanic invasions and gladiators aiding a Roman general to overthrow the Roman emperor in coup.

What are some other good movies similar one please?

He was washed up by that time.

I never understood his issue with the film.

shutup nerd oliver reed alone made it goated
