A train that runs right through the golf course. Sometimes you just know you are going to love a golf course before you step foot on the property. Royal Adelaide has been that place for years now. Now that l've played the golf holes, seen the train, had a drink on the patio with good lads, I can say that it's one of my favorite places in all of golf.

Rory McIlroy on Thursday's course setup: "The greens are pretty slow and quite receptive. I think they need to be at this point. It's a challenging golf course already, and you put 30-mile-an-hour winds on top of it, it tests the best players in the world pretty well. "I think they were prudent with the course setup, and they made sure to -- I think especially with starting with 156 the first two days, you just want to get everyone around without too much issue. They've set the course up for that, at least today."

Rory McIlroy was asked if he’s okay with/understands that they may water between waves on Thursday and Friday. Provided an interesting nugget about Shinnecock watering every day at 2 p.m. for members. “It’s a unique golf course,” McIlroy said. “The members at Shinnecock will tell you they do that every single day—every single day at this course the members play they put water on the course at 2 p.m. So, it’s a unique golf course and it seems like it’s just something they have to do. “For me it’s more... my concern was you don’t want it to look as if you’ve lost the golf course, and you’re starting to put water on it, which I don’t think is what they’re going to do. I think, especially with the heaviness of the wind on Thursday, it’s probably prudent to do that. “Friday doesn’t look as windy, but I think just for, again, fairness and competitive integrity, they do it on Friday, too. But I think they’ve got enough bandwith on the weekend that they probably don’t need to do it. So, I understand it. When I first heard of it my first reaction was ‘that’s stupid, why are they doing that?’ But then once you actually listened and you let them break it down to you, you’re like, yeah, that makes sense.”

Adam Scott talks about what impresses him the most about Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy: “Well, I played 18 holes at Augusta with Scottie before the Masters the other week, and even in the practice round I think his mental approach to not just the game, but a round of golf. It's like he picks the course apart. He's so good, so controlled with his shots that he can kind of pick the course apart. It's like how I imagine Nick Faldo played, but a modern version of that. And I mean that all in positive ways. I was watching him even practicing and chipping, where he chipped from, it's very strategic. It seemed like he had all his bases covered and can pick the course apart. I think when he plays well and from watching I think he didn't make a bogey the last two week ends he's played golf. Rory McIlroy says the way he beat his first-tee nerves was to picture the ball in the trees and walk the worst case all the way to its end. "I say this all the time. It's counterintuitive to a lot of people to do this, but I do. If you're trying to overcome anxiety or nerves or on performance, I do try to think about, well, what's the worst that could happen?" "I'm not gonna die on the golf course, thankfully." "I used to have, like, first tee nerves, like, big time. I would struggle on the first tee. And so I would say to myself, well, what's the worst that could happen?" "So if you hit it in the trees, okay, then what do you do? You go up there and you figure it out, you know, you're skillful enough to hit a punch shot out of the trees and, you know, get it up to the green and get it up and down and make a par and move on."
