RT to save a 3D Artists life!! Frustrated with overlapping shapes when you're rigging? Me too!! Here's a tip I learned at Bungie on Destiny 2. It's simple but it's saved me some headaches. --- #blender #tutorial #3d #lowpoly #toon #stylized #3dmodeling #gamedev #rigging

Just to help you out you can transfer weights up from the base mesh to the overlap areas and also using tools like @brave_rabbit smooth addon helps deal with editing weights across surfaces. but I use this one more

What's the advantage of this method over a data transfer modifier (or a cage, if you don't have to worry about export)? I feel like the artifacts it would introduce to the normals/UVs would be super difficult to work around.

it's easy to unwrap actually! and the normals can stay smoothed and usable for normal maps. it's good for game ready usability

I'm learning how to create animations with rigging and tweening! To practice, I took an old drawing and gave it some life. It's a bit wonky, but it was a great first exercise before I start a new piece that's animated from the beginning :3c ~
