Israel has done just fine for 80 years without peace with Saudi Arabia. Indeed, despite lacking significant natural resources, Israel is about 90% richer per capita—and has a vastly more educated population. And because that educated population lives in a democracy where the two-state solution is, for some reason, extremely unpopular—and will remain so for a good while yet—it simply isn’t going to happen. The division that is a weakness of a democracy in propoganda wars also gives it a forced stubbornness in negotiations, since there are 10.5 million people, and they can't be bought off in the same way a despot can be. There is no carrot big enough to tempt a majority of the Israeli public back toward Oslo, and in any case, Israel is already well-supplied with carrots. Peter Zeihan explains this most succinctly.
