🎥 WATCH | Jeremy Scahill reports that Trump’s indefinite “ceasefire extension” is being repackaged by the White House as a response to supposed chaos in Tehran, after Iran held firm on refusing talks unless the U.S. lifted its blockade on Iranian ports. Scahill says Iranian officials told him the decision was made at the highest levels of power and that White House claims of internal disarray, house arrests, or an IRGC takeover of diplomacy are “psychological warfare” — an attempt to let Trump save face after, in Iran’s view, “he blinked first.” 🔗 Full details in Jeremy Scahill’s new report for Drop Site linked below. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim | Emily Jashinsky

Ryan Grim and Emily Jashinsky spoke with Drop Site’s Jeremy Scahill about the fragile U.S.–Iran ceasefire and Tehran’s 10-point plan. Scahill explains Donald Trump was “desperate for an off-ramp,” after Tehran used the Strait of Hormuz to show it could cause “absolute global economic havoc.” He said Iran is treating the deal as a pause, with its “finger firmly on the trigger.” The pause now could be cover to “rearm Israel” before new strikes, especially as attacks in Lebanon continue. Both sides claim victory, but the truce is unstable and could unravel quickly, Scahill told Breaking Points. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim | Emily Jashinsky

🇮🇷 🇺🇸 Iran is signaling that any U.S. economic blockade would trigger a military response rather than force Tehran to back down. Middle East analyst Joshua Landis says recent Iranian strikes were designed to warn Washington that pressure on the Strait of Hormuz would not remain an economic contest. Instead, he argues, Tehran would expand the battlefield by targeting U.S. assets and regional infrastructure, turning sanctions into a wider kinetic conflict. His assessment is that Tehran is trying to convince Washington that economic warfare cannot remain separate from military escalation. Joshua Landis

🎥 Ryan Grim asks Jeremy Scahill how Iran can engage with the U.S. while Washington openly pursues a strategy centered on assassinating Iranian political figures, noting the global outrage if a U.S. envoy were targeted or threatened the same way. Scahill said the approach mirrors Israel’s playbook with Palestinian groups, but is unlikely to collapse a state like Iran, instead hardening positions and reinforcing a deterrence mindset. Turning to diplomacy, Scahill warned recent talk of negotiations “reeks of some kind of setup,” with talks potentially serving as cover for a major escalation. “When Netanyahu starts praising negotiations, that’s usually a blaring sign that something’s about to go down,” Grim added. ⭕️ Ryan Grim on Democrats’ cynical political calculations Grim argues that many Democrats quietly support US strikes on Iran and even regime change, but understand a broader war is deeply unpopular. He says that helps explain why party leaders did not advance a War Powers vote before the attack, allowing it to stall until after the strike. Publicly, Democrats demand explanations and warn Trump is acting “recklessly.” Privately, Grim suggests, they see a political win-win: if the war goes badly or leads to U.S. casualties, Trump pays the price. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

🎥 NEW: Jeremy Scahill reported this morning that Iranian officials say the U.S. has accepted Iran’s red lines in the latest revisions to the ceasefire declaration, but is asking for time to “manage domestic public opinion” before formally announcing acceptance of the interim agreement. Dr. Foad Izadi of the University of Tehran says Iran will want proof Washington is serious about ending the war, including the release of frozen Iranian assets and an end to Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. “If the U.S. cannot give the money that belongs to Iran back to Iran, and the U.S. cannot put a leash on Netanyahu and stop him from going on a rampage in Lebanon, then it shows that this conflict has not ended,” Izadi says. “This is a test for Iran to see what’s going on with the other side.” jeremy scahill | فواد ایزدی Foad Izadi

“Lies after lies.” “Did we come to the Gulf of Mexico to target Los Angeles and other U.S. cities? Or did they come 6,500 miles away to Iranian shores?” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Esmail Baghaei rejected President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran posed any imminent threat and that the U.S. went to war because Tehran was “going to attack first,” calling the justification a “big lie.” “There was no intention on the part of Iran to attack the United States,” Baghaei told Drop Site. ⚡️🎥 U.S.-Iran Negotiations | Latest from Drop Site News Drop Site’s jeremy scahill reports that the U.S. is pushing a narrative that a deal with Iran is close to agreement while simultaneously escalating threats of military action. Trump is using media leaks and public threats to pressure Tehran after failing to secure Iran’s “unconditional surrender,” Scahill reports. While Iranian officials say they remain fully engaged in diplomacy, they are also preparing for a possible resumption of the war. Iranian officials point to a pattern in the past year in which earlier rounds of negotiations were followed by major U.S.-Israeli bombing campaigns, fueling deep skepticism inside Tehran over Washington’s intentions.

💢 Jeremy Scahill says Iraq is once again “up for grabs” on the regional chessboard, as the country the U.S. invaded, occupied, and dismantled is pulled back into a widening war that will have “huge implications for the future of Iraq.” He describes a deeper clash underway, where societies with deep historical roots and the capacity to endure are confronting Washington’s approach. As he puts it, “the long view of history is clashing up against the short-term attention span of Donald Trump and his concoction of neocon plus MAGA foreign policy.” Watch the full discussion from our livestream this morning below, where Scahill and Ryan Grim break down how U.S. policy, regional escalation, and internal Iraqi power struggles are converging. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

🎥 “Iran warned for weeks that Lebanon was a red line.” Jeremy Scahill opened Drop Site’s livestream with a rundown of the latest developments in U.S.-Iran negotiations, Israel’s escalating attacks on Lebanon, and Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on Israel. Ryan Grim added that Trump is facing growing pressure beyond the battlefield. Major financial institutions had bet the Strait of Hormuz crisis would be resolved by June, while Trump is also heading into the World Cup and the kickoff of his planned America 250 celebrations. “If their analysis falls apart,” Grim said of market expectations, “part of the structure of this kind of fantastic market that we’ve had starts to crumble.” jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

🔴 NEW: Citing sources in direct contact with military planners, Jeremy Scahill told Democracy Now the U.S. is weighing two military scenarios for Iran: a “Libya scenario,” using U.S. airpower for regime change and allowing chaos and civil war to follow, or a “Venezuela scenario,” seeking to decapitate Iran’s leadership and make deals with lower echelons within the Iranian state. Scahill also discussed how Trump, who is amassing major naval and air power in striking distance, including the USS Gerald Ford joining the USS Abraham Lincoln, is pressing Iran toward sweeping concessions on its missile program and regional alliances. Iranian officials are signaling retaliation would no longer be calibrated, with tens of thousands of U.S. troops in the region potentially within range. jeremy scahill | Democracy Now!

Iranian-American analyst and writer Hooman Majd spoke to Drop Site Live about Iran’s ability to inflict real pain on the U.S. and on U.S. allies backing the regime-change war. He cited missile hits on Dubai as an example of targeting regional economies, arguing that even limited strikes can shake tourism and long term investment. More significantly, he warned Tehran could disrupt global oil trade through the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway for energy flows, triggering spikes in the market. The fallout, he said, would hit the U.S. directly: higher gas prices, a falling stock market, shrinking 401(k)s, and rising political pressure on President Trump. ⭕️ WATCH | Jeremy Scahill lays out where things stand on the U.S. escalation with Iran, as Iranian officials are now openly signaling willingness to meet U.S. envoys, with talks potentially taking place in Ankara later this week. Scahill warned that diplomacy has been used before as a tactical cover. He detailed Drop Site’s reporting that U.S. Central Command has quietly told at least one top Arab ally to prepare for possible U.S. strikes on Iran, with the military posture unchanged even after an expected Sunday deadline passed. Scahill also discussed how U.S.-allied Arab states are publicly distancing themselves from an attack while continuing to provide critical behind-the-scenes support, including surveillance, airspace coordination, and logistics during past U.S. and Israeli strikes. Claims that their territory won’t be used, he says, are “a misdirect,” stressing that “whether or not they’re physically allowing warplanes to take off is not really the issue.” jeremy scahill | Drop Site

⚡️Jeremy Scahill says Tehran has sent a clear message: Iran will not end the war on Trump’s terms. Scahill told a Zeteo town hall that Iranian officials are demanding reparations for war damage and international guarantees that Iran’s sovereignty will be respected before any ceasefire. He also discussed Iran’s strikes on hotels and other sites allegedly housing U.S. or Israeli personnel, saying Tehran argues those locations lose civilian protection once combatants operate from them. The United States and Israel have set the rules of engagement, Scahill said, referring to the past two and a half years of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, where Israel argued it could bomb churches, mosques, clinics, and hospitals because fighters were using “human shields.” jeremy scahill | Zeteo

🎥 Jeremy Scahill Breaks Down the Current State of the War and Negotiations President Trump is trying to spin the emerging U.S.–Iran memorandum of understanding as a victory, but the core U.S. demands have fallen away, Jeremy Scahill said. “The 2015 JCPOA already said Iran would not seek, develop, or acquire nuclear weapons,” Scahill said. “The Strait of Hormuz was open before the war began.” Iran’s key demands now are lifting the U.S. military blockade on Hormuz, withdrawing U.S. forces amassed in the region, repatriating billions in frozen assets, and importantly, securing an end to Israel’s war on Lebanon, he explains. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim
