šŸŽ„ Jeremy Scahill Breaks Down the Current State of the War and Negotiations President Trump is trying to spin the emerging U.S.ā€“Iran memorandum of understanding as a victory, but the core U.S. demands have fallen away, Jeremy Scahill said. ā€œThe 2015 JCPOA already said Iran would not seek, develop, or acquire nuclear weapons,ā€ Scahill said. ā€œThe Strait of Hormuz was open before the war began.ā€ Iranā€™s key demands now are lifting the U.S. military blockade on Hormuz, withdrawing U.S. forces amassed in the region, repatriating billions in frozen assets, and importantly, securing an end to Israelā€™s war on Lebanon, he explains. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim

Ryan Grim and Emily Jashinsky spoke with Drop Siteā€™s Jeremy Scahill about the fragile U.S.ā€“Iran ceasefire and Tehranā€™s 10-point plan. Scahill explains Donald Trump was ā€œdesperate for an off-ramp,ā€ after Tehran used the Strait of Hormuz to show it could cause ā€œabsolute global economic havoc.ā€ He said Iran is treating the deal as a pause, with its ā€œfinger firmly on the trigger.ā€ The pause now could be cover to ā€œrearm Israelā€ before new strikes, especially as attacks in Lebanon continue. Both sides claim victory, but the truce is unstable and could unravel quickly, Scahill told Breaking Points. jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim | Emily Jashinsky

šŸŽ„ Jeremy Scahill on the opening of the Iran-U.S. 60-day talks Scahill says the first day of negotiations in Switzerland unfolded against fierce debate inside Iran over whether officials should meet with the Trump administration after the war. Israel attempted to undermine the talks by escalating its assault on Lebanon, while Iran used the Strait of Hormuz as leverage before its delegation arrived. Scahill discusses Tehranā€™s brief walkout, describing it not as a collapse of negotiations but a calculated signal that it still holds leverage. jeremy scahill | Krystal Ball | Saagar Enjeti

šŸŽ„ Ryan Grim and Jeremy Scahill discuss how Trumpā€™s mounting domestic crises intersect with the U.S. escalation toward Iran ā€” and how Tehran is signaling that any attack could trigger a wider regional war. They note Trumpā€™s recent domestic troubles, from the ICE killing in Minnesota to renewed fallout from the Epstein files, and Grim says people close to Trump see foreign confrontation as a political release valve. Citing a new Amwaj Media report based on information from Tehran insiders, Grim outlines a shift in Iranian strategy. For years, Iran has pursued calibrated, pre-announced retaliation to de-escalate tensions. Iranian officials now believe that approach backfired, inviting more U.S. and Israeli strikes by signaling restraint. The new thinking, Grim and Scahill note, is to signal that any attack would lead to an Iranian response that would spiral into a wider, prolonged, regional conflict ā€” not the short, choreographed strikes Trump prefers and can claim to both launch and end. University of Tehran professor Foad Izadi previously told Drop Site that Tehran views the killing of 500 U.S. troops as a threshold retaliatory response to any U.S. attack. šŸŽ„ Jeremy Scahill told Breaking Points that Israeli anger over the reported U.S.-Iran agreement is not confined to Netanyahuā€™s far-right allies, but reflects a broader consensus inside Israelā€™s political class to continue the war in Lebanon. Scahill said Iranian officials and analysts believe another war with Israel is likely, and that Lebanon remains the key test of whether the emerging US-Iran deal holds. ā€œThe massive question looming over this,ā€ Scahill said, is whether Iran will refuse nuclear negotiations unless Israelā€™s ā€œscorched-earth bombing or siege of Lebanon stops.ā€ jeremy scahill | Krystal Ball | Saagar Enjeti

šŸŽ„ ā€œItā€™s like you might as well be sitting with a fourth grader.ā€ ā€” Jeremy Scahill relaying how Iranian officials described U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff during ongoing negotiations with Iran. Speaking on Majority Report, Scahill said the talks reflected a broader pattern of U.S. policy in the region being shaped by Israeli intelligence and around Israeli objectives. Iran came to the table with nuclear PhDs and experts fluent in every clause of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The U.S. ā€œsent Trumpā€™s golf buddy and his son-in-law.ā€ Scahill said Jared Kushner was ā€œnotā€¦operating on behalf of U.S. national securityā€ at all ā€” but those of Israel, the Gulf states, and the ā€œTrump crime familyā€ business. He cited Kushnerā€™s significant financial backing from Gulf sovereign wealth funds and reported ongoing coordination with PM Benjamin Netanyahu throughout the talks. Contrasting that with Iranā€™s delegation of nuclear specialists and policy experts, Scahill said Iranian officials ultimately concluded the February negotiations were not serious, but a prelude to war. jeremy scahill | Emma Vigeland
