We had climbed to the upper floor as flood water had entered my house. Even during the Nepal earthquake, we felt very strong tremors, and the nearby houses collapsed. We were rescued and saved by our neighbours."

The footage is from Jomsom, on the Kali Gandaki in Mustang — a different river system from Rasuwa’s Bhote Koshi. The town sign is in the frame. Muktinath is nearby. The August 26 disaster struck hundreds of kilometers to the east. The large black stone with the perfect spiral and saffron cloth is a 22-foot Shaligram Sheela replica, carved into a riverbank boulder during a Nepal Academy of Fine Arts workshop from April 20 to May 4, 2026. Local officials billed it then as the world’s largest Shaligram replica, one of about 18 sculptures cut along the Kali Gandaki. It was already a pilgrimage photo stop months before the flood. Authentic shaligram stones are fossil ammonites from the same river, usually small, naturally formed, and worshipped in Vaishnava tradition as a form of Vishnu. That religious meaning is real. The devistation was caused by a snow and rock avalanche on the Nepal-China border. It caused a destructive and deadly torrent of rock and debris that traveled more than 43 miles down the riverbed.
