Before we get into that ingenious cooling stunt, let's first meet the star of the story: Yuncheng (运城), north China's Shanxi Province. This seemingly low-key city actually has a few remarkable identities that may completely change the way you see it. China's "No. 1 City of National Treasures" Yuncheng is home to 100+ cultural heritage sites under national-level protection, with an astonishing concentration of ancient architecture. Step into almost any county in the area, and you may come across a temple, pagoda, or mural that has survived a thousand years. East Asia's Oldest Paleolithic Site? It is home to one of the earliest known Paleolithic sites in East Asia, dating back approximately 1.8 million years. Some European studies even suggest that the site may be more than 2.4 million years old. Salt Lake City, meet your Chinese twin Yuncheng is home to a salt lake spanning roughly 154 square kilometers, with a salt-harvesting history stretching back some 4,000 years. Salt Lake City, meet China's Salt Lake City. Perhaps it's time to make this a sister-city relationship, Salt Lake City Government ? This summer, a punishing heatwave has swept across Europe, while much of China has also been gripped by prolonged high temperatures. Against this backdrop, an unusual cooling system that sends a fine mist drifting down from above has captured nationwide attention. According to the property developer, the system was officially put into operation in August 2024. Each building, 100 meters tall, is equipped with more than 200 high-pressure misting nozzles installed along the rooftop. The fine droplets absorb heat as they evaporate, helping to lower the surrounding temperature. The system enters regular operation each June, with a single cycle lasting about 10 minutes. My colleagues took on-site measurements. Before the system kicked in, the ground temperature within the complex had climbed to 44 degrees Celsius. Once the system began operating, clouds of fine spray descended from above. Children opened umbrellas and played in the artificial "rain." After the spraying cycle ended, measurements showed that the ground temperature had fallen to around 33 degrees Celsius, while the temperature within the mist-covered area dropped significantly, turning a sweltering afternoon into something noticeably cooler and far more comfortable environment. According to the property management, the operating costs are fully covered by the community's shared property-management budget, meaning residents pay nothing extra. The system draws on ordinary tap water. Because the droplets are so fine, most of the water evaporates before it ever reaches the ground. Beyond cooling the air, it helps reduce dust and provides some irrigation for nearby greenery, allowing the same water to serve multiple purposes. This residential community is not the only place experimenting with creative ways to cope with extreme heat. About a thousand years ago, Kaifeng served as the capital of China, during a period when science and technology, urban civilization, and the visual arts flourished. Today, the city is home to several large theme parks and has become one of China's major cultural tourism destinations. Some have even dubbed it "China's Orlando." Kaifeng is also renowned for its watermelons. This year's bumper harvest, however, has left some local growers struggling to find enough buyers. In response, several theme parks have stepped in to purchase large quantities of local watermelons in bulk. The initiative helps farmers expand their sales channels, and allows the parks to hand out thousands of kilograms of free watermelon to visitors each day, offering a refreshing respite from the summer heat. From mist raining down on rooftops, to icy drinks pressed into the hands of delivery riders, to free watermelons handed out by the truckload-different cities, one shared answer. Step into almost any county in the area, and you may come across a temple, pagoda, or mural that has survived a thousand years. East Asia's Oldest Paleolithic Site? It is home to one of the earliest known Paleolithic sites in East Asia, dating back approximately 1.8 million years. Some European studies even suggest that the site may be more than 2.4 million years old. Salt Lake City, meet your Chinese twin Yuncheng is home to a salt lake spanning roughly 154 square kilometers, with a salt-harvesting history stretching back some 4,000 years. And its waters are actually saltier than those of the Dead Sea, buoyant enough to let a person float effortlessly on the surface. The only thing that doesn't float here is its fame. Hometown of Guan Yu (关羽) China's legendary warrior saint, Guan Yu, was born there more than 1,800 years ago. Celebrated for his unwavering loyalty and valor, and immortalized by the tragedy of a fatal misjudgment in his final years, he went on to influence Chinese culture for nearly two millennia. Even today, countless temples across China dedicated to him remain active, from Taiwan to Xinjiang. By all accounts, Yuncheng has no shortage of history and culture worthy of making headlines. Yet what recently propelled the city into the national spotlight was not its cultural heritage, though. It was the rooftop of an ordinary residential complex-where it suddenly began to "rain." This summer, a punishing heatwave has swept across Europe, while much of China has also been gripped by prolonged high temperatures. Against this backdrop, an unusual cooling system that sends a fine mist drifting down from above has captured nationwide attention. According to the property developer, the system was officially put into operation in August 2024. Each building, 100 meters tall, is equipped with more than 200 high-pressure misting nozzles installed along the rooftop. The fine droplets absorb heat as they evaporate, helping to lower the surrounding temperature. The system enters regular operation each June, with a single cycle lasting about 10 minutes. My colleagues took on-site measurements. Before the system kicked in, the ground temperature within the complex had climbed to 44 degrees Celsius. Once the system began operating, clouds of fine spray descended from above. Children opened umbrellas and played in the artificial "rain." After the spraying cycle ended, measurements showed that the ground temperature had fallen to around 33 degrees Celsius, while the temperature within the mist-covered area dropped significantly, turning a sweltering afternoon into something noticeably cooler and far more comfortable environment. According to the property management, the operating costs are fully covered by the community's shared property-management budget, meaning residents pay nothing extra. The system draws on ordinary tap water. Because the droplets are so fine, most of the water evaporates before it ever reaches the ground. Beyond cooling the air, it helps reduce dust and provides some irrigation for nearby greenery, allowing the same water to serve multiple purposes. This residential community is not the only place experimenting with creative ways to cope with extreme heat. As high temperatures continue, cities across China are introducing increasingly practical and locally adapted cooling measures. In Beijing, Turpan, and many other cities, air-conditioned service stations have opened their doors to sanitation workers, delivery riders, and other outdoor workers. These stations provide watermelon, chilled drinks, ready-to-eat food, and heatstroke-prevention supplies, all free of charge. In some locations, field workers have also been equipped with cooling vests and other protective gear designed for extreme heat. Kaifeng (开封), in central China's Henan Province, has taken an approach that carries a touch of romance all its own. About a thousand years ago, Kaifeng served as the capital of China, during a period when science and technology, urban civilization, and the visual arts flourished. Today, the city is home to several large theme parks and has become one of China's major cultural tourism destinations. Some have even dubbed it "China's Orlando." Kaifeng is also renowned for its watermelons. This year's bumper harvest, however, has left some local growers struggling to find enough buyers. In response, several theme parks have stepped in to purchase large quantities of local watermelons in bulk. The initiative helps farmers expand their sales channels, and allows the parks to hand out thousands of kilograms of free watermelon to visitors each day, offering a refreshing respite from the summer heat. From mist raining down on rooftops, to icy drinks pressed into the hands of delivery riders, to free watermelons handed out by the truckload-different cities, one shared answer. And I can tell you what worked. Summer of 2008, the press announces that Barack Obama is moving from a 20,000 seat basketball arena to an 80,000 seat football stadium. And we said, that’s our shot. You have 60,000 people that don’t have housing, surely at least a few of them are going to need a place to stay… And so we literally started with local people in Denver. Then we started emailing bloggers. We got the bloggers. Then the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News covered us. Then the local ABC and NBC and CBS affiliates. And then the Wall Street Journal. Then the New York Times and CNN are in our living room… We did that in a matter of three weeks.” Brian continues: “We started these little infernos. You start getting a few users here, a hundred here, fifty there… And we did the same thing with the inauguration. And when you have a hundred people here and there, then you obsessively meet them… Paul Graham, our first investor, said it’s better to have a hundred people love you than a million people kind of like you. And the reason why is it’s really hard to build off of a really wide but shallow base. But with a hundred people, you can find out everything they want… You meet them, you spend a ton of time with them, and once they fall in love with your product, they’ll tell every one of their friends. That is a striking increase against the levels of global warming, which has averaged about 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade since the 1980s. At that pace, the rise of Khartoum’s temperature over the same period should have been only about 0.4 degrees Celsius. Instead, the increase Khartoum has actually recorded is 225% to 325% higher than that—meaning the city is warming far faster than the rest of the world. Many global and local factors lie behind this. But the past three years have brought exceptional conditions driven by the war, which has accelerated several of the local pressures that shape the city’s climate and push temperatures up. The widespread stripping of vegetation, the fires, the shelling, and the decay of the built environment are all unnatural forces that drive nighttime temperatures higher. They disrupt the natural cooling cycle and weaken the city’s ability to cool down after dark. As a result, the land and buildings start each day a little hotter than the day before, and the city wakes every morning to a higher baseline temperature. This builds into a cumulative cycle that makes heat waves last longer and hit harder—with direct consequences for public health, energy use, and water supplies, and a steady worsening of heat stress. This is where the Khartoum afforestation initiative matters. It is not simply a project to beautify the city, it is a new front in the fight against climate change and a effort to repair the urban environment. Studies suggest that expanding tree cover in Khartoum could lower local temperatures by around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, while also cleaning the air, cutting dust, reducing energy use, helping the soil hold more water, and strengthening the capital’s overall resilience to heat waves. This initiative does not start from scratch. It builds on pioneering youth and community efforts that came before it, such as the “Green Khartoum” initiative and others. Appreciation to Everyone who made the Fan Convention Possible. There are simply not enough words to express how grateful we are to everyone who became part of the Paint The Town Red Fan Convention. Over the course of two unforgettable days, we welcomed almost 1,500 attendees, with 1,200 meals distributed through the generous sponsorship of JLCENTERFLARES (ON HIATUS). Our journey began long before the event itself. Months of planning, revisions, sleepless nights, and endless preparations all led to this moment. But the real work started at 10:00 PM on 07/24, when our volunteers gathered to begin setting everything up. From that night until 4:00 AM on 07/27, after the final egress, they continued working almost nonstop. They sacrificed their sleep, endured physical exhaustion, carried heavy equipment, stood under the scorching heat for hours, and pushed through every challenge just to make sure every fan who walked into the venue had the best experience possible. As if the heat wasn’t enough, the first day ended with heavy rains that damaged parts of our setup and equipment. For a while, we honestly thought we wouldn’t be able to continue with Day 2. When we first submitted our proposal to SM MOA, we only had one dream: to promote JL and create a space where JL Stans could come together, celebrate, and simply enjoy being part of this community. To all our volunteers, thank you for choosing to serve instead of simply enjoying the event as fans. You gave your time, energy, and hearts without expecting anything in return. Whether you helped with setup, registration, crowd management, food distribution, cleanup, or behind-the-scenes tasks, every role mattered. This event would not have been possible without you. To all the participating fanbases and communities, thank you for taking the time to prepare and distribute your thoughtful freebies. Your passion and generosity added so much joy to the experience and made the event even more memorable for everyone who attended. Less useful. Memory care? Hope you’ve got two kidneys to sell. Nursing home? $111,000 to $128,000 a year. That’s not a bill — that’s a ransom note. And while families are drowning, caregivers — the people keeping our loved ones alive — are paid $16 an hour, while agencies bill $34+ and pocket the difference like it’s a clearance sale on human suffering. Meanwhile Medicare — the thing Americans THINK pays for their parents’ care — doesn’t pay for ANY long-term custodial help. Not at home. Not in assisted living. Not even in a nursing home beyond a short rehab stay. They kick you to the curb the second you’re stable enough to blink — “good luck, hope your kids aren’t broke yet.” So who pays? Medicaid. But only if you’re poor enough to practically vanish. Only if you sell down, spend down, or die down to qualify. And even THEN, there’s a 3-year, 4-year, 5-year waitlist for home care in some states. Imagine being 87, needing help with bathing and eating, and the government basically says, “Sure, sweetie — get on the list, we’ll call you by 2029.” Families step in — unpaid, exhausted, wrecked. America survives on the backs of daughters, daughters-in-law, and burned-out adult children quietly doing $600 billion worth of unpaid care every single year while the insurance industry gets fat selling policies with premiums that jump 30% overnight. And nursing homes? Corporate chains. Private equity. Debt stacked on debt. They make their money not from love, not from care — but from Medicare rehab margins and private-pay seniors who bleed out their savings to subsidize everyone else. Your grandma’s Social Security check is not keeping the lights on. Your grandma’s house is. This isn’t a system. This is a machine — designed to take every last dollar a family has before they’re allowed to get help. A machine that punishes aging, punishes disability, punishes the poor, and punishes anyone who dares to live long enough to need care. So when politicians talk about “cutting healthcare,” When they casually vote to slash ACA subsidies, gut Medicaid, or privatize Medicare with a grin like it’s a fun little math problem, Let me translate what they’re actually saying: “If your parents get sick… you’re on your own. If your husband gets dementia… sell the house. If YOU get disabled… pray you die quickly.” Because without coverage? Without Medicaid? Without ACA? Without guardrails? Elder care in America becomes a luxury product. Only the rich age with dignity. Everyone else ages with debt. This isn’t politics. This is survival. This is the bill every American family eventually gets — and the bill our leaders pretend doesn’t exist. We’re not fighting for healthcare. We’re fighting for our future ability to not abandon the people who raised us. Because one day, if this system isn’t fixed, it won’t be your parents you’re terrified for. It’ll be you.

KASHMIR BLACK DAY 1. First of all, thank you very much for inviting me to share some thoughts on this solemn occasion – in commemorating the Kashmir Black Day which essentially marks the beginning of the occupation of the State of Jammu and Kashmir by India since 1947. 2. It has indeed been a very long time since the occupation started and recent treatments of India on the occupied territories do not reflect that it plans to reconsider its occupation let alone end it anytime soon. 3. In fact, India is forcefully bullying any opposition to its occupation while at the same time tightening its grip on these territories. 4. And woe upon us that while the border politics are being played out, atrocities committed on the Jammu and Kashmiri populace persists and we and all those who are concerned, watch helplessly on the side lines. 5. I do not like to draw parallels to acts of injustice and crimes against humanity as the sufferings of the victims cannot be equated from one to another. 6. And we can never really fathom the depths of these sufferings, the pain and scars that remain etched on the victims and their kin for as long as they live. 7. But parallels in the hypocrisy, the double-standards, deceptions and lies committed by perpetrators of these atrocities are similar. It is only the scale that may differ at times – as each tries to outdo the other when they terrorise their victims relentlessly and with impunity. 8. What are their hypocrisy, lies, deceptions and double-standards? 9. On the one hand, these ruthless regimes proclaim to be advocates of democracy while they commit apartheid. They express anger and disgust when their victims retaliate and hit back at them, usually on minute scale, disproportionately compared with their vicious attacks. 10. They label freedom fighters as terrorists, hiding the fact that their apartheid policies, genocide and ethnic cleansing activities for decades cannot, but spawn aggressive retaliation from those occupied. 11. And why do these occupied people resort to militancy and aggression? 12. Isn’t that to be expected from a people who had been bullied, stripped of their dignity and witness to the murders of their loved ones while the rest of the civilised world turn a blind eye. 13. Don’t all these narratives sound the same – be it in Palestine, in Jammu/Kashmir, South Africa or even Ireland in the not too distant past? 14. For that matter, most of these problems are inherited from the colonial past as they divide and carve up their former colonies and distributed them at their whims without considering the interest of the populace. 15. Unluckily today, despite contributing to the crises, the former colonialists and their allies chose to support the new occupiers and the results as we witness today are the massacres and genocide of the occupied. 16. Right now, the world watches in horror as Israel unleashes its military might on helpless Palestinians, justifying it as retaliations to terror acts committed by Hamas. 17. Israel intends to choke Palestinians in Gaza out of existence by cutting off all basic and essential supplies and at the same time suggesting that civilians in Gaza move out of the occupied territories so that it can then hit only at Hamas target and not the civilians. 18. While Israel blames Hamas for its attacks on Gaza, it does not explain why the murderous Tel Aviv regime attacks West Bank which is devoid of Hamas. 19. In fact, for the past seven decades, of which almost half of that period was without Hamas, Israel had been attacking and killing Palestinian civilians including babies with impunity. 20. Hamas and other Palestinians who decide to take up arms and fight against Israel are children and grandchildren of Palestinian civilians the Israeli regime had murdered in the past. 21. Using the same playbook, India is justifying its invasion and occupation of Jammu and Kashmir as part of an effort to eradicate militants and terrorists and to protect its border. 22. India’s revocation of Jammu/Kashmir’s autonomy unilaterally four years ago saw the deployment of hundreds of thousands of soldiers into the illegally occupied territories of Jammu and Kashmir. Along with that atrocities were committed, while placing the whole population under siege. 23. International bodies had reported that an atmosphere of fear and reprisal had ensured silence. 24. We have also heard reports of how India is attempting to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir by settling non-Muslim outsiders in the Muslim majority areas. 25. In many ways, it is not different than the Israeli settlers who forcefully evict Palestinians from their homes in land grab activities sanctioned by the Tel Aviv regime. And to ensure that the process is successful, it deploys the IDF to accompany the settlers. 26. Resistance were met with such viciousness that some helpless Palestinians just submit themselves to the mercy of the occupying forces. 27. But there are Palestinians, as in the case of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir who would not leave their fate in the hands of providence. 28. They retaliate and fight for their freedom and liberation by any means available to them, most times unconventional. 29. The minute they retaliate and any casualties are inflicted on the occupying forces, a prepared narrative emerges almost immediately – militants from these occupied territories had committed acts of terror on the occupiers. 30. With that the Western powers which had decades of opportunities to put a stop to the occupations and assist in the liberation of the occupied peoples, side with the occupiers and regurgitate the convenient labelling of terrorists and terrorism at the freedom fighters. 31. It is indeed baffling that these leaders of the so-called civilised West cannot even understand the meaning of the term occupied territories. And they do not seem to be able to comprehend a simple concept that those standing up against the occupation are the heroes and that the occupiers are the villains. 32. What can we do against the oppressive occupiers and the powerful backers? 33. Not much actually other than continue voicing our anger and disgust to what is happening in these occupied territories. 34. We must persist in exposing the cruelties, the atrocities and the hypocrisy of the self-anointed guardian of global morality when they are actually the perpetrator of evil and backers of greater evil. 35. It seems their hypocrisy and cruelties are bottomless as when we think we had witnessed the worst there is in mankind, they come up with atrocities we can never imagine before. 36. To the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We remember you and we feel for you. We pray for your deliverance and may Allah liberate you from the tyranny. Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. "In Europe, the figure is somewhere between 14,000 and 20,000 up until the end of July, and it’s expected to double by the end of this summer. So we’re looking at potentially 50,000 deaths across Europe." "If these deaths had been the result of terrorism or a pandemic, the government would have cancelled its summer holiday, it would have held COBRA meetings, and there would be public information campaigns the likes of which we saw during COVID, designed to protect us in this time of crisis." "And yet what do we get? We get rumours of possibly more drilling for oil and gas, and we get articles in the Telegraph which suggest that we ought to adapt to a Mediterranean climate. If that isn’t reckless and irresponsible, I don’t know what is." "What we do need at this point is to listen to the science, not to the ongoing malevolent raft of mis- and disinformation that’s perpetuated in politics, in public life and certainly across social media." "If we listen to the science, we see that the climate models that were devised in the 1990s have actually proved to be pretty accurate. But those who do try and transmit the information to us, people like the IPCC, which are often derided as alarmists by the right and the far right, have actually been too cautious." "What we see, for instance, when it comes to the heatwaves, is that they are occurring more quickly and more regularly than those models suggest. We’re updating the science as it happens. How many firefighting planes in the UK, exactly? Zero planes. Which is why, as Zack said, when that fire was burning at Dunwich, the National Trust had to hire a helicopter and pay for it to drag water out of the sea and dump it on that precious piece of habitat, because there are no firefighting planes." "Is there a public warning system in place which will tell people when there’s a risk of wildfire so that they can be prepared to evacuate and have evacuation plans in place? Well, do you know what? That biodiversity, that richness of life, that resilience in those ecological communities which we use to produce our food – we’ve got to change the way that we eat and produce that food, and we’ve got to provide sufficient support for farmers through that transition. And at the moment, they’re not getting that. In fact, they’re getting less and less and their life is becoming increasingly difficult." Building on wetlands is a very dangerous criminal enterprise because wetlands are natural water holding and drainage systems, and once they are built over, the water has nowhere to go, leading to frequent flooding, permanent waterlogging, and rising damp in buildings. The soil in such areas is soft and unstable, which causes foundations to sink or crack over time, resulting in serious structural damage and very high maintenance costs. So all those involved in this criminal enterprise are either ignorant, criminal, or both. Destroying wetlands removes their natural function of filtering water and controlling floods, increases health risks such as cholera from stagnant water, and often creates legal, insurance, and resale problems, making such developments risky both environmentally and financially. All this water that you are seeing in this video is the result of the criminality and ignorance of building on wetlands. When the colonial government left these wetlands untouched, it was not because they did not have any use for that land. It was because they understood the danger of building on such land. They were responsible. Fast forward to 1980, and we have a ZANUPF government that allows people to build on wetlands because of corruption, criminality, greed and sheer ignorance. Instead of expanding the city, they do the most idiotic thing imaginable and build on wetlands. If you look at a city like Johannesburg, it started small and then expanded. That expansion came with employment, industries, malls, and businesses being established. Harare by now, under normal circumstances, should perhaps be halfway to Marondera going east. That would have meant that along that growth we would have industries, businesses, schools, and public enterprises, and, more importantly, a great deal being contributed to the economy through that expansion. But because the regime and its corrupt cronies are obsessed with squeezing into the small city that the colonial government left behind, there is no real expansion taking place. People end up using residential homes as offices. People end up bringing offices into areas that are not meant or zoned for offices. This is tragic. I do not know what it will take for us as black people to understand that when we do these kinds of things, we are hating ourselves, we are damaging ourselves, and we are destroying the future of our OWN children and the ability of future generations to inherit a functional city. Right now, when you get to Harare, when it rains even a little, the whole city is flooded, not just because of poor drainage, but because wetlands have been built on. Water has nowhere to go, so it floods and causes enormous problems. You cannot even drive. Imagine an investor flying into Harare and driving into the city only for their car to be submerged in water. This is basic common sense. It should be common sense not only to the ruling elites in ZANUPF, but to every Zimbabwean. Even those who are building on these wetlands are damaging themselves. They are destroying their own future and that of their children for a quick buck, motivated by greed. It makes no sense whatsoever. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to understand that what the government is doing is criminal, ignorant, and that it will cost generations to come. The irony of this video is that it was produced by the Environmental Management Authority, EMA, the very institution that should be ensuring that these things do not happen. Yet it is the same authority that neglects its duty and allows them to happen. It is the same authority that has been infiltrated by corrupt businessmen masquerading as land and housing developers, who pay kickbacks and are then allowed to build on wetlands. It makes us look profoundly irresponsible and foolish. When future generations look back at these episodes, they will wonder what kind of people we were, people so greedy and so driven by money that we chose it over a sustainable environment in which people can live in peace without constantly worrying about flash floods. The amount of property lost to these floods is staggering. Yet it is a small group of men, and some women, who are making money from this illegality and criminality, becoming filthy rich without any sense of community or responsibility. They continue to do these things in order to make even more corrupt money. These are multimillionaires. They are reckless. They do not care about today. They do not care about the poor, because it is the poor who are forced to bear the brunt of this. Look at Zengeza and Budiriro. These are poor communities, yet they are the ones who suffer most from these illegalities that are taking place in our country. I appeal to all Zimbabweans, regardless of political party or ideology, to think about the future of your grandchildren who are yet to be born, and the future of your great grandchildren who are yet to be born. Do you want to be remembered as cruel, criminal, fraudulent people who did not care about the future of those who came after you? Is that the kind of memory you want to leave? Do you want future generations to say that the post war, post liberation generation was selfish, self centred, corrupt, and did not care about what came after them? Is that how you want to be remembered? That is how we are going to be remembered if we continue on this path, as a senseless, greedy, corrupt generation that allowed this to happen. This is sad. Let us think about the future. Let us think about the legacy we are going to leave and how we are going to be remembered. Do we really want to continue destroying our country and be remembered as selfish, destructive people? Are we so stupid that we do not understand the most basic concept of what wetlands are? Are we so idiotic that we cannot see that we are actively harming ourselves by building properties on top of what should be a living ecosystem that protects our suburbs from flooding? Are we really that irresponsible as Zimbabweans? Is it truly that hard to understand? Do we have to be so primitive and so backward that we end up destroying ourselves, destroying our capital city, just so a few men can make money, while we also destroy the future of our children, and then turn around and claim that we are patriots? What kind of patriotism destroys its own environment, the very place where its own people are supposed to live? That is not patriotism. That is idiocy.

Interesting times in the maps space, and its exciting there is so much buzz - maps are awesome :) My parents Rakesh and Rashmi Verma pioneered digital mapping in India in 1995, returning from the US after a successful career there with the passion and desire to do something unique for India. This is peak first-world leftist delusion. This woman stands in a fully equipped American kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, running water, electricity, AC-capable ceiling, TikTok lighting) and declares “we live in a 3rd world country” because her one-bedroom rent went from ~$700–800 five-to-ten years ago to $1,300 today, and because some people work long hours or share space. Every claim collapses on contact with reality. • The United States is not a third-world country by any metric that has ever mattered: GDP per capita, HDI, access to clean water, electricity, sanitation, medicine, food abundance, or personal safety relative to actual developing nations. Day 6: What a glorious morning in the USA. We've only been in this beautiful country for 6 days and we absolutely love it. It's been a long time since I've seen my wife this happy and hopeful. The overwhelming kindness and real concern and care our community extends towards us pushes us upwards and pushes us forward. Today started slow after our meeting with our resettlement agency was rescheduled 1hr later. As updated previously someone from Spangler Restoration did come assess the mold and we're expecting a full clean by tomorrow. Will follow up, but will keep the mold updates separate from now on because it will not get us down or beat us down nor distract us from all the wonderful aspects of our journey. That said we'll give them hell should they stutter or falter. We will also conduct our own testing with a 5 minute mold test and sample kit that will get sent to a lab proudly gifted to us by American patriots who bought it for us in our Amazon wish list. We met with the resettlement agency and they went over information and asked us how we are doing and how the last 5 days have been. They are too keeping an eye on the mold issue and are also waiting for the next update from management. They explained our documentation and informed us again that we entered approved to work immediately. We have work authorization from day 1. However, some employers are too cautious employing illegals and as such people with our documentation face challenges getting employed before and EAD card and SSN card has been issued. We'll have to see them tomorrow again. This if for signing of consent forms apply as proxy for SSN etc. I informed the agency that I've applied with Rides for Refugees who could potentially hook us up with a donated vehicle which would make the world of difference to be able to travel with my son to appointments. There is still a big journey lying ahead for us. More medical assessments and SSA visits etc. My body is aching from the physical labor after doing the fibre trenches yesterday. I can hardly walk. 😂 I overdid It while shadowing with the ride along yesterday. Apparently it takes about 2 weeks to get work fit. If they contract me I will take the offer immediately and I'll start with training after two weeks of digging fibre trenches. I'm coming from journalism and web hosting office jobs into the sun and I'm totally game for it. Anything to start earning dollars and it's an industry I want to get into. So it's win win and I can't be more grateful for this opportunity. Back in South Africa I would've never have had this opportunity. I can't wait to find out if and when I start. One of you kind people gifted me work boots and cargo pants from ma Amazon wish list. So I'm ready on day one. And another wonderful person on X I'm forever grateful for, gifted me peace of mind, for when I have to go off to work leaving my wife and baby behind, we now have a ring doorbell camera installed this evening letting both of us know of any trouble or visitors while healing our angst and worry, PTSD, we undoubtedly brought with us from South Africa. We have also received the gifted Air purifier this afternoon and it's already doing wonders in our single bedroom where Nova sleeps with us, where it will help ease the odors, it's affects, albeit temporarily, and will help us have a proper rest during the night for the first time until the specialists clean the HVAC. I will be posting pictures and thanking individuals who opened their hearts. I will never forget what your doing for us, for my family, for my son. I have sacrificed my son's past, his Afrikaner culture and to a degree his Afrikaans language for a future in which he can reach his full potential, he will grow up American and we all including my family will fight to protect American values and the future of this great nation, & I am and will always be a proud Amerikaner dad.
