The FBI just acknowledged that the federal government buys Americans' location data in its testimony to the Senate Select Subcommittee on Intelligence. This is a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment and is why I introduced the Government Surveillance Reform Act - to close the data broker loophole that allows intelligence agencies to buy Americans' private data.

🏛️ House Blocks Section 702 Surveillance Extension 🔹The House on Thursday rejected a three-week extension of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, voting 198-218 and falling short of the two-thirds majority required under the expedited process. The measure would have extended the warrantless foreign surveillance program through July 2. 🔹19 Republicans joined nearly every Democrat in voting against the patch, while 7 Democrats voted in favor. 🔹Many Democrats withheld support over President Donald Trump’s plan to install Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and a close ally with no national security experience, as acting director of national intelligence on June 19. Some Republican holdouts opposed the bill demanding a warrant requirement for querying US citizens’ data. 🔹With the House leaving for a week-long recess and not expected to vote again until June 23, Section 702 is poised to expire this week. Speaker Mike Johnson, asked whether he would bring the House back, said, “What would be the point?” The program’s surveillance operations can continue regardless, as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court has already recertified Section 702 through March 2027.
