Self Disclosure Privacy using ZK Proofs, Demonstrated & Executed Directly on Cardano Preview I built a demo where a customer buys a beer and proves they are 18 or over, without ever showing their ID. No name. No birth year. No photo. Just maths. Two beers were ordered. Two...

Still learning about zk proofs, but excited to be sharing many more demo's and scenario's on Cardano when I get time :)

Nice experiment! Could you please help me to define the roles on your model? User orders two beers …that’s easy. I like to know who is the trust registry, issuer and verifier.

Dave's profile picture
Dave6 months ago

Issuer is the authority that verified the customer's birth year and issued a cryptographic credential (e.g. a government ID office). Holder is the customer. They generate the ZK proof locally on their device, their birth year never leaves their phone. Verifier is the Plutus V3 smart contract I deployed on Cardano. It checks the Groth16 proof on-chain and only learns "age ≥ 18: yes/no", nothing else. Trust Registry is the verification key embedded in the validator. It defines which issuer's credentials are

Thanks, Dave! What I was missing was the issuer component, and now that point is clear. Over the last few years, I’ve come across many rather wild concepts around “issuers.” But in practice, without an issuer at government level, there is very little we can do. In the EU, we also have to comply with eIDAS, which brings a broader framework and many additional requirements. That said, the tool you created is very nice. You may also want to look at It also uses ZKPs and is built modularly, which makes it possible to tailor the entire solution to the relevant use case.

Wait, so can we use this as KYC in DeFi? As long as we have a reliable handling CEX KYC now acting as Issuer we can do this easily on Cardano?

Dave's profile picture

@DanogoFinance If there is an external party willing to validate the age then from what I understand yes. Of course this is a super basic example and is by no means a production ready implementation.

@DjediMindTrick Hei Dave! Very nice! In layman terms does that mean that onve there has been a valid age verification “by a trusted third party “ then that wallet is verified for ever, and all it needs to show is “yup I am old enough, here is the taransaction that says I am old enough” (?)

Agreed. Asking for too much information in RWA is bugbear of mine. It's harvesting for profit. If asked for phone number, name or email when I'm buying something I either refuse or go elsewhere. I give money, they supply goods. Simple. The customer should be in control.

Frank's profile picture

Very many transactions in Thailand, no matter what it is, bank, hotel, hospital they ask to see a passport. I have never understood why. They have enough information to verify me without this intrusion.

Frank's profile picture

Electronic payment in some shops they ask to take a photo of the transaction from my phone! I mean. Wtaf. Then they give a paper receipt!

Another rwa use case. Instead of scanning each item individually at checkouts we should be able to push a full trolley through a scanner that would identify its contents and give the option of instant pay or verify click to pay.

Frank's profile picture
Frank6 months ago

This would also allow instant stock check on items, reordering levels, profit margin, sales figures in real time, trends, footfall figures, the possibilities are endless without imposing on your customer. In fact making customer experience quicker, simpler and possibly cheaper

Love this Dave. The verification side is exactly right — the chain only needs to know "yes" or "no." The harder problem is issuance how does the credential get created in the first place without a centralised authority holding your ID? That's what we're solving in Lovelace with Identus DID + Halo2 on-device. The proof never leaves the phone. Not even to our servers. Same end result as your beer demo, but the ID check happens once, privately, and then never again - anywhere.

Yes but how do they prove they are the person connected to the digital ID - I dont understand how this can work unless there is some kind of biotmetric connection to a former verification process ?

Dave's profile picture

As mentioned this is a very basic example as a starting point to show its possible to validate on Cardano using smart contracts :) facial scanning, biometrics etc can be added to compliment this

GNP1 - Cardano SPO - supporting mental health6 months ago

I think it is a great example and highlights the many use cases in digital identify and supply chain management etc which is where Cardano should be focussing - but one of the biggest hurdles with real world cases is that you ultimately have to have a third party trusted entity to enter the system

Completely agree. I think this is why a lot of the privacy aspects is better suited on an institutional level. I've got some ideas on some things to try out though.

@Quantumplation But if you can prove it’s possible imagine the effect it could have on future dev spending. Could be a huge plus for Cardano and if you prove it is not possible it would also help settle some of the drama. Win win.

Dave's profile picture
Dave6 months ago

@Quantumplation I'm already fairly sure its possible, but not to the level I would deem quality, and then getting it from that position into quality it's probably more time-consuming than coding it with the context in mind, is my opinion. :)

@BELTRAANC In particular, we as an ecosystem don't have the tools to determine when such an implementation is "done"; We don't have a definition of what it means to *be* a compliant node. Without that an AI will *really* struggle to finish the task, even when guided by a Cardano expert.

For the Sui Overflow 2026 hackathon, I built Talise. A gasless dollar account that sends money by name, settles in under a second, and keeps the amount private on-chain. This is what "money that moves like a message" actually looks like when you build it on the right rails. The core experience is simple by design. Sign in with Google/Apple, get a self-custodial wallet via zkLogin, claim your handle like sele@talise, and start sending. No seed phrase. No gas token. No 0x address to copy and verify. The complexity lives in the infrastructure. The user never sees it. [Kostas Kryptos] Sending is just a name. Type a handle, enter an amount, confirm. It arrives in under a second. Stablecoin transactions on Sui cost nothing, so what you type is exactly what arrives. No spread taken on the send. No fee waiting at the destination. Talise also has a built in privacy feature. The amount is hidden on-chain and the connection between sender and recipient is completely broken. Nobody watching the chain can see what moved or who it moved between. Real privacy, live on Sui mainnet today, not a line on a roadmap. Beyond the core send: claim links let you wrap dollars in a URL and drop it in any chat, no address needed to receive. Payment streaming lets you send a salary or a subscription by the second. Idle balances route automatically to on-chain lending so your dollars are never dead weight between payments. And cash-out to your local bank is live now in Nigeria, with more corridors coming. Every transaction is sponsored through a gas station so users never hold or spend a gas token. zkLogin, sponsored transactions, sub-second finality, and programmable transaction blocks are what made this possible. Sui is the only chain where this experience exists without compromise. Over 1,400 handles claimed on-chain. Every feature shipped and working in the live build. Testflight app: Talise. Money that moves like a message. Sui Community Official sarah 😾

This is SO cool !! I just used up for voting amendment XLS-96 Confidential Transfer / privacy on the XRP Ledger dev net enabled by homomorphism and ZK proofs. What's going on here and how do nodes know payments are correct while not able to see the amounts ? 1) I issued a confidential MPT on the XRP Ledger dev net. I shielded my balance. Privacy for the amounts of my XRPL issued asset balance and transfers (the addresses stay public). No one can see the amounts, it's all shielded, except the issuer and the auditor who can always decrypt them (or you, like in the video on my esp32). 2) The XRP Ledger uses 2 boxes 📦 for this all under the hood, an Inbox-box and a Spending-box. I don't go into detail why thats needed but it's important we have it. 3) How do Validators and nodes know the transfers are correct if they can't see the amounts? Now the true magic is enabled by homomorphism. It allows to do operations arithmetic on encrypted data as if it were plaintext, without the need to decrypt it. Like adding and subtracting amounts to your balance. ZK proofs fill the gap that nodes need. We need a comparison of the balance that after you have done your payment you have >= 0 balance. If you would have negative balance it means you trying to spend more than you have something we need to prevent. For this a ZK proof is used to quickly allow people to check, ahh all good, no idea how much Vet owns but whatever he is spending here it's definitely within his balance and it's not below 0. Those 2 techniques soon on a public decentralized blockchain XRP Ledger. Should give you goose bumps what this means for possible use cases.

Axiom Math's Carina Hong on why verification isn't about catching mistakes, it's how you drive the cost of a proof to zero: "Formal verification is going to make your life slightly better if you're facing a proof with one million lines. Remember the Erdős unit distance problem, the chain of thought being generated? There are actual mathematicians trying to follow it step by step and scrutinize it. That seems very difficult if you're not in that very niche domain of discrete geometry intersecting with algebraic number theory." "But if you have a Lean proof accompanying it, you can just run it. And running the Lean proof gives you that provable guarantee that this proof is sound." "I have a hot take. People think Lean is this library built on the existing Mathlib. I think it's going to grow significantly. A lot of the hurdles where Lean is difficult is that the basic definitions of some mathematical fields are just not in the library." "My hot take is the scaling law, if you go down the formal mathematics path, is going to be a lot steeper than informal mathematics. So it's not just for verification, for trust, it's also for performance, it's also for optimal generation." "Verification is not like insurance. It's not something where, oh, we want to make sure there's no flaw. That's great, but it also helps you generate mathematics, both proofs and conjectures and theories, a lot better." "So imagine the cost of proof goes to zero. Then you can massage the problem statements, and even if it's an open problem, a lot more easily, flexibly, and adaptively." Carina Hong Axiom

The cold is British. They just never told you. ❄️🇬🇧 Every air conditioner, every fridge, every freezer on earth, the cold inside all of it was first made by a Scotsman. In 1756. ❄️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 His name was William Cullen, a doctor in Edinburgh. In a warm room, with no ice and no winter, he drew the air from a glass of ether until it boiled cold and drank the heat from the water around it, until the water froze. No one had ever done it before. Then he wrote it down and walked away. No machine, no patent, no fortune. Just the proof, on a bench. It sat there the better part of a century. A British bench built the first machine that worked, and a Scot carried it across the world to Australia, where it froze meat and cooled beer. But cold was only half the story. ❄️📖 To master the air itself took another Scot. When the Houses of Parliament burned down in 1834, David Boswell Reid made the new building breathe, its gothic spires its lungs. At St George's Hall in Liverpool in 1851 he built what is often called the first air-conditioned building on earth. It should have made him. He died forgotten in America instead. 40 years on, Willis Carrier built the machine and earned his name as the father of modern air conditioning. He earned every bit of it. But he did not make the cold. The cold was British. America took that inheritance and cooled the world with it, and that is no theft. That is what an inheritance is for. We are the home of British heroes. Not built by ads, not by the government, built by us. There's a place for you with us. Be part of us. ☝️🇬🇧 Be Proud Of Us. 🙏🇬🇧

GMiden everyone 🤟 In finance, one rule always holds: a business is only as secure as the data behind it. So when the Miden team talks about Practical Private Finance, its not marketing - its a new on-chain model that finally works in real-world conditions. What’s the core idea behind Miden approach? The breakthrough is client-side proving: all computation happens on the users device. Your phone or laptop generates a local ZK-STARK proof, and the network verifies only correctnes. No exposed balances, no leaked strategies, no unnecessary risks. The chain sees the proof, but never your local state. That’s what practical privacy looks like. This is the kind of privacy blockchains should have offered to banks, brokers, trading platforms, and institutions yaers ago. And now it becomes real: private smart contracts, private execution, full control over state, fast performance, and programmable confidentiality - all without sacrificing speed or scalability. Practical Private Finance from Miden isnt a plug-in on top of the EVM. Its a new financial architecture where offchain data, proof-based validation, and compliance-ready design work as a unified system. This is how on-chain finally returns to sanity where trust isnt a slogan, but cryptography. And that’s exactly what inspired todays non NFT crypto art with my unofficial Miden mascot. The art itself in good quality is in the quote under this postHope you enjoy it )) #Miden #ClientSideProving

Good Morning Cardano Serviceplan Group, the marketing agency who also works for companies like BMW, Netflix, Amazon, etc. has just submitted an official Marketing proposal for the Intersect Budget process. After 1.5 years of building Masumi & becoming closer & closer to Cardano, they've decided that they want to become Cardanos official Marketing partner. Some disclaimers first: 1) I am an unpaid advisor to this proposal. Yes, unpaid. I do not get any money if it wins but I've decided to give some of my time & help Serviceplan with connections into the ecosystem because I believe that professional marketing like this is very much needed in Cardano. 2) This is a joint proposal coming from multiple different agencies from inside the Serviceplan Group. Serviceplan has around 6000+ employees. The team working on this is a different team than the one working on Masumi. 3) This proposal is not a grant or some speculative investment or so. It's an actual proposal for very specific work package that will be carried out. It's the first time SP has ever done "public pitch" like this, normally they're used to pitching in front of marketing departments of large enterprises. 6 months of work went into drafting this proposal. So please be nice, even when you have criticism. :) 4) Serviceplan is the only entity that I know of from outside of Cardano that has invested a Multi-Million dollar amount into Cardano development in recent years. I'm not sure I'm allowed to say the exact number but let's just say this: If they win this proposal + the Catalyst proposals they've received for Masumi, it will still be less than what they've invested into Cardano so far. That alone should be reason to take a very serious look at this. Now about the proposal itself: The goal of this proposal is to broadly "reposition" Cardano as the Blockchain for serious business. It's specially built so it captures Leads & distributes them into the ecosystem. The main pillars that the proposal focuses on are 1) DeFi and 2) Supply Chain. Now I highly recommend everyone for read through the full proposal, I will put the link to the PDF into the comments.

I have been building a visualisation platform that maps activity across Cardano. The objective is simple. Transparency. When information is clear and accessible it strengthens the entire ecosystem. The platform is already showing how powerful that visibility can be and it continues to improve as more data is integrated. I have successfully traced the direction of genesis funds across the blockchain end to end. The focus of the work however has increasingly turned toward Emurgo and will continue to target Emurgo.. Whether I release the tool publicly is still something I am considering carefully. In the past I built AI systems over Cardano data and chose not to release them. The reason was simple. I did not want something powerful to be turned into a weapon that hunts for minor negatives inside what is otherwise one of the most important technological and innovative blockchains built in this space, and a result of years of hard work. I have no interest in fuelling drama. My intention has always been to present Cardano for what it actually is. A blockchain built through years of research and engineering, driven by the founding entities IOHK and the Cardano Foundation, and supported by people who genuinely care about the system including Charles and many others who have given years of effort to build it. That remains true regardless of some recent comments directed toward me in spaces. Those were disappointing, and did actually upset me being completely honest, also they missed the wider context of what I have been doing and I feel discounted my care for Cardano. However transparency works both ways. I will not ignore behaviour that undermines the principles Cardano governance is supposed to protect. Emurgo, a founding entity, is accumulating a rapidly increasing share of voting power through Yoroi DRep delegations. Many users appear completely unaware that this is happening. The interface suggests things along the lines of gaining rewards by delegating voting power to Yoroi as a DRep. What many users do not realise is that they are delegating governance influence directly to the same organisation that operates the wallet ,and worst still think they need to delegate to Yoroi to get their ADA rewards! I have received countless direct messages from affected users who did not understand what they had delegated. In several cases language barriers appear to make the situation worse, particularly for users outside the English speaking community. At present Yoroi and Emurgo, which are effectively the same entity in this context, represent roughly 17 percent of all voting power. That share is rising quickly. Based on the recent rate of growth it is not unreasonable to see this exceeding 50 percent within a few years if nothing changes. Governance concentration on that scale is not healthy for a system designed around distributed decision making. Cardano’s credibility depends on users understanding where their voting power sits and being able to move it freely to representatives who actually reflect their interests. The goal of the platform was never to show how much a founding entity spent or to cause drama. The goal was to show the decisions a founding entity made and how those decisions shaped the blockchain in an era of governance
