I remember most of President Holland's talks, but I didn't remember this segment - I'd say it was probably during his talk about home teaching - it is wonderful.

I've heard stories like this all my life, about people's lives falling apart and then everyone steps in to help. As a result, I thought that such stories were the rule in real life. Turns out they're the exception. The stories get told over and over to serve as models, to tell us how we ought to act. Unfortunately, they can also set up false expectations. When your life falls apart and nobody comes to your rescue, it's really a 2x4 to the back of the head. That's how it was for me. I've had to adjust my expectations, examine my own role in things not turning out how I'd wanted, and reflect on how I was never one to be attentive to others' needs, so who am I to judge.
