To me this is not just an FCT issue, it is a national pattern. We build the plan, then we build over the plan. Every rainy season we act surprised when water, which never forgets its path, reclaims its channel through people's living rooms. The flooding in Trademore, in Lokogoma, is not natural disaster, it is man-made approval disaster. I think Kingibe is right to frame it as a violation of the master plan's logic. You cannot monetize every open space and still expect a functional city. If the FCDA does not demolish those illegal structures on flood channels, even if it is politically painful, Abuja will become exactly what it was created not to be — another flooded city that blames nature for its own corruption.

The flooding in Abuja was not caused by climate change. The APC has normalized explaining away scandalous misgovernance as climate change, just as they have used rice as a panacea for every protest. Flooding anywhere is caused by heavy rainfall, clogged drains, reclaimed floodways, and deforestation. Land grabbing is killing our urban spaces. Countries that revere powerful personalities above their laws and their enforcement do not make progress.

My problem is even with the uproar the fct minister is yet to address and give his view to the public on the abnormal turn of events in the city center as regards to the flooding and that is to say we are just making noise and when we are tired we will move on. What are country
