She makes an interesting point about taxes

Black Americans been saying this for years and no one cared so welcome to the party 🎊

What really gets me is that each year property taxes are assessed on the current value of a home, not the original purchase price. That means you’re paying taxes on unrealized gains, only to turn around and pay taxes again on the realized gain from your original purchase price when you sell your home. Home owners are getting double taxed on property and despite politicians talk about reducing property taxes, they only ever go up, even after tax relief!

It’s funny how white people are now complaining about gentrification because it's starting to affect them.

Not to mention, it’s just bad architecture the house is ugly AF.

Does she not feel the irony smacking her in the face everytime she talks about gentrification?

That’s happening in the cities as well, so overall greed is the problem. America is growing, which is fine but it’s growing further and further away from the American dream more to the corporate scheme.

That house is hideous and so out of place there.

Funny how when it impacts them and there communities they forget to mention the Black Americans have been yet again at the forefront. When will America acknowledge what's good for Black America benefits all of America.

It's fraud. Being taxed on unrealized gains based on a 'guess' about what a house is worth. Happening all over the country. And nobody's rioting in the streets about it. It's so over - we just don't know it yet.

@SltyWhtCrckr This is all related to the property tax fraud scheme Mitch Vexler has outlined. All part of the problem. Fraud at every level. Local, state and national government. All the politicians are treasonous and should be treated as such.

I agree with her, but the truth is some of those mill homeowners sold some of their adjacent land to developers just to get some extra cash. It came full circle. Some blame falls to the land owners who chopped off acreage of their own land to make an extra buck.

Why do they call you a home "owner" when you never own it? If you have to pay someone every year in order to keep it, that makes you a renter.

I could have told people 5 years ago that they planed on taxing people out of their homes, Florida, Colorado and Nevada are the top 3 for foreclosure today.

As F'ed up as we are here in Commiefornia - we established something called Prop 13 back in late '70's which holds property taxes to the assessed value of the last time the home was sold. So property taxes do not skyrocket over time and price ppl out of their place.

Property taxes should be illegal.

How do property taxes go into the pockets of developers? Property taxes hold down values and hurt buyers

Black people have been saying this for decades.

I agree with her but concern shouldn’t be limited to small or rural towns. This is happening in large urban cities too!! Black Americans that have lived in predominantly Black low income areas for generations are being pushed out with new development in independence heights, sunny side, south Union, fifth ward and South Park. They’re building 450k homes in the hood that were under 150k pre covid. Everyone is buying them: professional Black Americans, Yankees, and many foreigners!!

Nah she’s retarded. People left high demand and low supply places to go to low demand and low cost places. Fuck her and her nimby arguments. She herself isn’t even from the south lol

It’s happening everywhere. Bulldozer all the new developments or start protesting construction sites. Make it too inconvenient to continue paving over everything. Sue developers for destroying peaceful spaces.

And I can tell you fron a quite rural area of Texas that over the past ten years I watched re estate corps come to town and buy a bunch of houses and two cookie cuter subdivision housing being built around the grocery stores and schools. Than I watched every house from here to the horizon become rental or sold three times it was listed previous, all while watching rental homes pop up all section 8 accepted and back ten years ago that was really hard to find. Most government assistance places were apartments and subdivisions they built themselves with small single family homes.

This happened to a small town I lived in. Small farm focused rural area. Covid hit all the bougie city folks move, built multi million dollar homes. Complain about the dairy farm smell and wildlife. Tripled property taxes for those who’ve been living there for years. 😔

White ppl finding out about gentrification in real time is funny to me idc

Putting up a new $400,000 home beside an old $200,000 home does not DOUBLE the value of the latter. It enhances the value of the latter, which for normal people, is a positive development. If you believe the tax appraisers have OVER-ESTIMATED that enhancement, appeal it.

The same thing is happening here in rural Western Washington. I live in a small rural town where you could buy a single-family home for $275k–$350k just six years ago. Literally hundreds of huge 4+ bedroom, three-story homes on tiny lots selling for minimum $600k+ have been built in the last few years. They’ve torn down hundreds of acres of wooded areas and put up these big ass super expensive homes that no one around here can actually afford to buy. So they end up sitting empty for months then turned into rentals that go for $3,000–$4,500 a month, which has ended up raising everyone else’s rent. It’s outrageous.

I live in the west, VERY RARELY do i ever see log cabins being built anymore The west has been overrun with homes made of matchsticks cause they can scrape more money out of people with them. Absolutely sad that we've lost the "character" of the world i grew up in

@Needle_of_Arya That's not how taxes work. Towns collect taxes to pay for services, not to put money in pockets of politicians or developers. Politicians generally have set salaries. The transplants paying taxes on $400k new homes pay for the new library, new fire station, repaved roads etc.

Wait, hold on. You're saying a mill home that cost $150k 5 years ago now costs $300k, and the mill home owner is complaining? They have $150k in equity appear out of thin air! Lady, they're probably checking their Zestimate weekly excited as hell.

Her argument has a lot of holes. Higher Property tax for expensive home doesn't mean higher tax for shitty bungalow neighbor.

In my area they are building a lot of borg cubes packed with condos and a retail venue. Pack the max property taxes in the smallest footprint. Another trend is to buy 40-50 yo houses and tear down. The new houses are 1.5M+ and take up as much lot lot space as possible.

You're damn right! They did this when they gentrified Boston! I no longer recognize the neighborhoods I used to know. It's all a giant playground for the rich.

Now we know why so many of our grandparents - the G.I. Generation, including post-War European immigrants, made a point of settling for bungalows and mill homes here in North America. I remember older relatives chiming "they can't tax you for what you haven't got."

I know ya’ll hate us, but if you suspend your CDS (California Derangement Syndrome) for just a moment, this might be the solution to your problem. Look into CA’s famous Proposition 13 which prevented millions from losing their homes decades ago when we had a huge housing boom.

Property tax has doubled, insurance tripled since 2020.

Yep, tax grabbing . Taxes especially property taxes need to end
