The American church is way too much like Laodicea

I am a medium sized church pastor and agree with her; church should never be a show or performance. However, if my church grew to several thousand, we would be forced to become more programmatic than personal. It's a hard reality. Scale brings those challenges.

Most of what she described is fake Churchianity. Sure, there are those who are saved who do worship in that type of environment, but they are the minority.

To her last question, because we have been trained more by our TVs and screens than we realize. For a show there must an audience willing to be entertained, and nothing more, to FEEL like we are authentic.

Your presentation is carefully staged + choreographed.😂 Just go where you feel like you belong? It’s totally voluntary. You can die in a small church or a large church. Is Christ being preached. Don’t major on minors.

True, and it needs to be added that personal faith in God is also to be public as well.

Or, why would a Christian even attend one of these?

I left a church like that a year ago. Perfectly perfect! At least in outward appearance. It was so cliquey, tho, so focused on “what have you done for the church lately?” And by “the church” they meant the organization that this one family had sort of infested. All their adults were pastors nobody could find offstage. The messages sounded good but lacked substance. Never an altar call or call to believe or accept Jesus. Much pressure to “tithe.” Just not of God. But boy did it look good! (I’m giving far more to my new humbler church because I believe in what they’re doing here)

I understand the concern for hypocrisy, but how does one include small groups and coffee to judge alongside that? Be careful the beam in your own eye. All the best.

Spot on!

Truth. My Pastor calls them showtime churches. My former church sent me to a worship arts conference years ago at one of these megachurches. Eventually I was guided to a small yet faithful country church with great unity of the Spirit. Praise God.

Never been to a mega church I’m good 😊

I can tell you how this happened, actually. A church, with all the right intentions, started growing to the point they themselves started cookie-cutting new churches all over the US. But those new congregations were attracted to worldly things, and forgot why they exist.

yep.............

I take it she's not a church growth consultant

Those corporate churches are cults

She sounds cynical 🤷♂️ country ⛪️/house ⛪️/tiny missions ⛪️/&currently 3K+ ⛪️ here. each one has their own problems & health. generalized potshots serve no one but The Enemy. Get involved, let God transform you & use you to make your current church family healthier. Peace 🕊️

Its about the word there are a lot of mega churches i listen too because I dont live near them, but because of their extra production watching them online is exciting. Any movement for the word and spreading the Gospel should not be hindered, but encouraged.

She makes some good points. Her main point is very good. (She may be exaggerating a little, because some of these things may be OK, if done with humility.) I concur -- the fog machines especially are a bit much!

This sounds like legalism to me. My church is not as Christian as yours because we have small groups and logos printed on our coffee cups? (We don’t) The worship team wears nice clothes to church so that makes us evil? Have you tried reaching the lost instead of trying to knock down your brothers and sisters in Christ?

Because you are in the wrong church.

🔥👏👏👏👏🔥

Is it supposed to be personal to the point where we don't want to draw large numbers of people to Christ? CC @howertonjosh

Happy to say not at my church I think they spend about $20,000 a year on the church stuff if not 10 Everything else goes to the poor

Sadly, Business approach is pushing in many churches in France. Pastors speak “plan, goal, leader, personal development, project..” In revival history, organisation always replaced the work of the spirit. Anointing leaves, professional leaders comes in !

Is that really how it's in the USA? Greetings from The Netherlands ✝️

Here's the OP. Promote a minister, get him to build a megachurch, then generate revenue from the large numbers, then water down the Word so you don't antagonize members if it threatens meeting the vig that pays the mortgage.

I have a pet peeve with those who lump all "megachurches" together. The term simply designates an weekly attendance of 2,000 people. They come in all flavors, from TD Jake's church to former John MacArthur's church. Black/white/conservative/liberal/prosperity/reformed, etc.

The expectant mother on her 12th trimester in a tight, ankle length dress with a mic in one hand, other hand in air and she’s baying like a dying calf in a hale storm to the extended version of some popular Christian song. 🙄 Just walk out.

Come to our church. We're a bunch of loving amateurs, muddling along, deeply dependent on God's grace and loving Jesus. We could really do with some help too!

🤔

I wonder if these are her thoughts or someone else's. They describe exactly how I feel about that type of church. At this point, I am looking for a less polished and more authentic church. (I have recently found one, hurrah!)
