Stress primarily comes from two things: (1) Not taking action over something that you do have control over. (2) Wanting to take action over something that you don’t.

This concept is 2,500 years old It’s called Stoicism

This is really helpful advice. Thanks for breaking it down.

Stoicism

Ha that’s amateur hour. Let me give you an example. I’m anchored in a harbor in a thunderstorm is coming. I’ve let out as much anchor chain as I need to and the anchors well set. Do I have control over anything else? Yes, let’s take out the spare anchor. Gee maybe we should run a Kellett down the anchor line. Even better let’s reset the anchor in a different direction hoping it’s more effective. You see where this is going

Very valid points but let’s start with not having to set an alarm to wake up… like, gut… my life would be much less stressful if I had that much agency over my time 😂

@hubermanlab @AndyStumpf77 the reference comes from Stephen Covey in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. 🫡

I find journalling on paper (research shows writing on paper is better than a device) about what is consuming my mind-those thoughts that get in a loop, is helpful. And do it again if they reappear.

sağ tarafa kendimi yazıp beş dakika sonra yine kontrol edemediğim her şeye overthink yapacak olmam... bu tarz basit self-help egzersizlerinin işe yaradığını sanan kaldı mı gerçekten

Habit number one from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Writing definitely helps, this is very practical advice. One does write about what they feel and what they want to do, however this approach is very neat as it brings clarity to what is influencing our mind

Yeah it’s the divorce and her moving on so quickly… tough pill to swallow plus the money she swindled during the separation.

Does splitting the page work because it externalizes the loop, or is the writing itself the reset?

So the left side will be empty 🤣

I tend to figure things out without having changed anything since young. purple and pink colour pens usually does the trick.

Something something keep focusing on yourself and not anyone else. Be more selfish.
