Since Omarchy Linux ships with Waybar's calendar tooltip disabled, instead of simply setting "tooltip": true, I decided to build one that fits Omarchy. It's called a tiny Waybar calendar popup for wlr-layer-shell compositors. It ships with a rounded style too, if that's more your thing. Written in Rust, btw....

Nice, thanks for making this. Something I wanted for a long time. Now need a PR with Omarchy, that changes the theme based on the current theme 😉 The icon is a bit cut on my side, but that's probably because I have smaller text. Clicking on a date would be nice to open @morgencalendar. I configured it now on right-click, but if dates could integrate with the actual calendar, it would be awesome.

@OmarchyLinux Looks like I forgot to update AUR and crate with the style change feature. My bad. Just updated them.

@OmarchyLinux Also, I don't use any calendar services, but if one does get integrated for the official Omarchy repo, I have no doubt it'll be dhh's Hey

@OmarchyLinux Oh yeah, I use HEY too, but not for calendar. But like morgen as they have a native app even on linux. Works great. I updated, but still looks the same, but no worries, it works great.

@OmarchyLinux You updated with one of these and don't see the style change feature? cargo install waycal --force yay -S waycal

@OmarchyLinux But I have a tweaked Waybar config, not default Omarchy, so I think it's not you :)

@OmarchyLinux To clarify, I didn't change the icon. v0.2.0 adds the style changing feature. That's what I thought you were referring to about it still looking the same

@OmarchyLinux looks nice, but its pointless without integrations with at least primary calendar providers

@OmarchyLinux Not a fan of Omarchy at all, but good job on writing this. This definitely needs calendar accounts tho (I understand you don't want it). I guess a widget for Gnome calendar is doable.

@OmarchyLinux Super cool! I binded it to a click on the Waybar clock and added a keyboard mapping for quick access: bindd = SUPER CTRL, D, Waybar Calendar, exec, pkill -x waycal || waycal As others have mentioned, it's only missing an Omarchy theme integration.

@OmarchyLinux Another feature request apart from theming. Could we get localization and force the locale with an argument? Sorry, don't want to turn this side project into a full-time job for you! ;)

@OmarchyLinux I was trying to find something like this and ended up using the Waybar clock module's calendar program. However, this looks really neat! I do have a feature request though: would it be possible to add a yearly mode?

Not sure if I'm the only one but I think WHOOP isn't very good tracking lifting weights It generally doesn't auto detect weight lifting (instead showing it as ACTIVITY) and then rates it as low strain compared to cardio, probably because it's lower BPM But that doesn't really make sense, I can do an extremely heavy lifting workout that hurts for days after but WHOOP will show a strain of 6 Then I go for a light bicycle ride and it's a strain of 12, simply because it gets my heart BPM up This problem is confirmed to me by people at WHOOP but since it's so hard to measure the strain of lifting with their sensors they prefer to not estimate lifting too heavy, instead they want people to write down their specific lifting workouts in the WHOOP app everytime But like nobody has time for that Also since it never auto detects weight lifting (eventhough it's the only workout type I ever set, so it should just default), I have to go back to every single workout in the app of the last couple of days to manually change it to Weight Lifting which is tedious (especially with that link workout popup everytime + the calendar resetting to today straight after) I think WHOOP is made for runners but they forgot people also need to lift weights and it has a bias to cardio This actually has been influencing a lot of my friends to run more which is good but I still think it's a massive bias as strength training is super important for longevity too Will Ahmed Viviano

Jocko Willink says the answer to tasks piling up is a small notebook, two consolidations a day, and 15 minutes of list review scheduled like an appointment. "First, first of all, definitely write the things down in one place." "It sounds like, since you're moving all the time or you're going to meetings, carry just a nice little notebook with you and write the things down as you get tasked with them." "Then on top of that, you have to have a master list of some kind, either paper or digital." "So if you get tasked something in a meeting in your little notebook, you come back, you put it in the right place in the master task list." "And then like twice a day to consolidate the information that's in the little notebook you have into the big master list." "Before you go to bed at night, you organize those things by priority on the master list. You put the most important thing at the top and that's what you're going to attack the next day." "That's part one on how you get these things organized. Now the part two is you got to schedule this stuff. And actually, I always say this when people have trouble with tasks, put them on the calendar." "Jamie does that for me. When Jamie's got something for me to do, she just doesn't email me and say, hey, you need to do this. She puts it on the calendar. So I look at my calendar, boom, there it is." "Put these things on your calendar. And that includes scheduling time on your calendar so that you can have time to consolidate your list and do a review of your lists." There is no "try harder" anywhere in his answer. The notebook catches it, the list ranks it, the calendar gives it a time, and the fifteen-minute review keeps the whole thing honest, so his head never has to hold any of it. That is the real fix for the kind of overload where none of the tasks are hard but they never stop coming: everything gets a place and a time, and whatever is still floating in your head is the thing taxing you. - Jocko Willink (Jocko Willink) on the Jocko Podcast (Jocko Willink)

💾 Okay I finally bought a Raspberry Pi 5 to make into a real retro computer as a proof of concept I love the Raspberry Pi much more than my ESP32 simply because I can SSH into it and it's just like a normal computer or server, the ESP32 required specific software to re-flash it everytime and it was TEDIOUS!!!! I need a fast feedback loop to develop with so all this flashing is too slow for me The Raspberry Pi 5 instead just runs Linux which then runs DOSBox-X to run Windows 3.11 install live downloaded from there so it stays fresh I then also got a Checkmate 19" IPS Retro Monitor by Stephen Jones (very indie and Kickstarter-style product) which is like a vintage retro PC monitor but with an OLED and it runs at 1280x1024, and the Raspberry Pi 5 has HDMI out so it works perfectly with it Then I got an 8BitDo retro IBM keyboard, but the spacebar broke, so I gotta send it back and get a new one, but it was great while it worked, so it's not in this video, and I got the 8BitDo retro mouse So altogether it's a proof of concept of a real vintage retro PC with internet and it works now My end goal is to make this into production and SELL it, not for money but more for fun because I think it should exist, just like Palmer Luckey's ModRetro Chromatic Gameboy-remake I'd go with something smaller than this 19" checkmate display though, it's great but too big for the Windows 3.11 era I think, more like 14" with a matching sized retro IBM-style keyboard and Windows 3.11 preinstalled (if legally allowed by Satya Nadella) with WiFi working out of the box We could also go with Windows 98/XP, because for me too Windows 3.11 was a very short time, so I too have vague memories of it, most of my computing memories is Windows 98/XP etc. Inside it could simply run on a Raspberry Pi 5 like here, which is easily powerful enough to run all of these OS'es I see many SF founders with Apple II's in their living room, and I guess cause Apple was more popular there back then, but in the rest of the world we were mostly IBM PCs and clones that ran Windows, so it's cool to have that as one retro object working with internet in your living room Anyway, step by step, we're here now 😊
