You heard it here first. They were all announced eighteen to twenty-four months ago, and they made the assumption that they were just gonna call up their local power authority and just attach to the grid. There’s no power left on the grid. So all of these guys that announced these data centers attached to the grid are gonna get told sorry, it’s not possible. And all those turbines are going to come onto the markets, and companies like BITZERO are gonna get them because they have the contracts for sub six cents.

"If you have ambitions to be a Professor at Yale, Harvard, or one of these big institutions, the way you do that is mostly by getting funding for research. It's by getting a lot of publishing - a lot flying around the world to talk about something. You need all of these things to bolster your reputation as an international expert in this area. Now, the best way to do that, at least in psychiatry but I suspect in other areas of medicine, is actually to collaborate with pharmaceutical companies to run clinical trials. They write the publications for you - most of it, they do a lot of the grunt work, they give you the protocols, and then, essentially, they fund you and fly you around the place. I used to remember, as a junior doctor, looking up to the Professors. And they would say, 'These drugs are safe and effective. There's not a lot of problems there.' ...What I've seen more and more is that they've been compromised, and that they have incentives tied to the money and to career advancement. That means that they can't be as forthright as they ought to be about these things. And it's gotten to a problem where these are the Professors who are training the doctors who are setting the tone for what is acceptable care out there. People in Utah have started asking us an important question, when you build these power facilities for AI data centers, can some of that energy be sold back into the local grid? The answer is yes. That completely changes the conversation. Instead of being seen as “the evil data center guys,” we can help power Utah’s grid while also building critical AI infrastructure for the future. And despite the headlines, we’re not building the world’s largest data center overnight. We’re starting with just 1.5 gigawatts with 1 gigawatt of net IT load a small fraction of the long-term proposal and proving the model first. And it’s not a 40,000 acre data center. Our project a full build out will span 10-13k acres 7,500 of which will be preserved. We want the people of Box Elder County to come see it themselves, the EPA air quality standards, the water permits, the noise compliance, and how the project actually operates before anything scales further.

I’m the only developer of data centers on earth that graduated from environmental studies. I'm pretty aware of what these concerns are. They are around air, water use, heat, noise pollution. So sustainability is at the heart of what we do in terms of all these proposals. We search for the best technology. There's many air-cooled turbines now, so you're blending in air-cooled versus water. There's so many different ways to generate power. We can also put a percentage of the power generation through solar, wind, and batteries because the battery technology is 10X more efficient than it was just five years ago. So that's very helpful because it makes the cost of energy lower.

I like the hype but there's no power left in the grid. You have to actually build a turbine gas powered because nuclear power is 19 years away. The only places you can do that right now, and I've got projects in all these locations is: West Virginia, North Dakota, and Alberta, Canada. Why? Because they have massive amounts of stranded gas. Frank McCourt and I announced that $70 billion project. We're gonna do it up in Grand Prairie, Alberta, the largest data center on earth at the lowest cost of energy. I think we're not gonna have a hard time getting tenants at all.

John: There is a lot of opposition to building in America, broadly. That's just the nature of our society. I was thinking about, what do Americans want to build? Because it's easy to look at the data center stuff and be like, "Well, everyone's against building data centers." I was reflecting on the whole reindustrialization meme this weekend. And I was thinking about the actual knock-on effects of reindustrialization — most people don't want a car factory in their town. I actually think people don't really want change. They don't want things built. Data centers are probably at the bottom of the list. They're the least popular. But people don't want stuff built, generally. There are very few things that people are like, "Yeah, I'd be down for that to be built." People like the status quo. They're happy with things as they are. And they don't like change. People block home construction all the time. Also, permitting and expansion of existing homes. I'm not saying that they're as unpopular as data centers. Data centers are at the bottom. But new housing in communities is like razor's edge. I do think there's an element of like, Americans don't want to build anything.
