A friend of mine just recently got his first gun, a striker fired Glock 19. He is terrified to leave a round chambered. To anyone reading this who has this same fear, I want to alleviate your concerns. I'm going to explain why there is nothing to be afraid of. First and foremost, I fully understand your concern. It's not irrational. And you're not stupid for being nervous about a bullet being aimed at your leg with the striker cocked back under spring tension about an 1/8 of an inch from the primer. I get it. I shared this concern when I was new to carrying. But your fear is due to a lack of understanding of the internal safety features of a modern striker fired handgun. On a properly maintained modern striker fired pistol the striker CANNOT hit the primer on the chambered round without the trigger being pulled. Can't. Not shouldn't. Can't. (If you have any good Sig P320 jokes, this is the proper place to share them) There is a block that the striker will hit and stop if it is released without the trigger being depressed. It works just like a lock and key. There is a channel in the blocker that the striker can pass through if it is in the fire position. It only goes into the fire position if the trigger is pulled which pushes the blocker into the fire position. A spring keeps the blocker firmly in the block position until then. The blocker is a solid piece of steel that won't break. And if your gun is securely in a hard sided Kydex holster nothing can move the trigger unless it is unholstered. Many guns like Glocks have a trigger safety that prevents the trigger from moving due to force of dropping. Your finger has to be on the trigger safety to move it. So the gun cannot fire unless you pull the trigger. And it's easy for you to test this safety feature to see how it works! See the video below. You can try to push the striker forward by moving that piece at the back of the slide forward. That piece is the back of the striker. Push it forward and it will stop. The tip won't come out through the breach. You see it trying to come through but it gets stuck. Now push that little button in. That is the actual blocker. When you push it in you will now be able to move the striker forward through the breach and see how it will strike the primer. You can test this easily every time you disassemble your pistol to verify it is still working. You can break this safety feature by removing the blocker or losing the spring. But if it's there it will work. (You would be the first person in firearms history who has ever lost a spring. Literally the first one. It has never happened before. 😐) But it doesn't come out as part of regular maintenance. You have to disassemble the firing assembly to get it out. That won't happen by accident. And if you do that on purpose you should do this blocker test when you reassemble it to make sure the safety feature is working. My video shows a Glock slide. All Glocks will look like this. Other brands may put the blocker in a different spot or it may be a slightly different shape. But they all (mostly) have the same design. If you test yours as demonstrated and it works like mine does, your gun WILL NOT fire without pulling the trigger. (If you just thought of another P320 joke, this is another good place to toss that out there)

And this week, as gold broke 4,000 dollars, China's biggest banks moved to push ordinary Chinese out of leveraged gold trading, with at least one warning it will liquidate any position not closed by month-end. Both are true at once, and together they explain what this crash really is. Start with what is being banned, because the words matter. ICBC and a string of other banks are shutting down retail trading in what the Chinese themselves call paper gold, the margined, leveraged contracts where you bet on the price without ever owning a bar. Some banks lifted the margin requirement to 140 percent to choke the leverage off before closing the products outright. Physical gold, meanwhile, stays wide open. Coins, bars, savings plans, ETFs, all fine. It is only the paper, the leverage, the casino, that is being shut, the last step in a five-year retreat that the crash just finished. Officially this is about protecting small investors, and that part is real. The same kind of leverage wiped out a wave of Chinese retail in a 2020 commodity blowup. But set the ban beside what the state is doing and something larger comes into view. While its citizens are pushed out of the paper, the People's Bank of China has spent those same 19 months buying the physical metal, more than two thousand three hundred tonnes of it now, accumulating straight through a 28 percent crash that scared everyone else out. Beijing is not trading gold. It is hoarding it. That is the strategy in one frame. China looked at the two things both called gold, the paper bet and the physical bar, and made a choice no Western government would make. It is taking the metal for the state and closing the casino for everyone else. The reason sits in a single date. 2022, when Russia's reserves were frozen with a keystroke. Anthropic open-sourced the "Jacobian lens" from their global-workspace paper — a readout of what a model is *about to say* from its internal layers, before it says it. It's white-box: you need the activations, so you can't point it at a cloud model. I wired it into a hook on a local open-weights Qwen. How it works: generation runs one token at a time; at each step the hook reads the residual stream through the lens, scans the top readout tokens against a watchlist (injection markers, secret words, "manipulate"…), and if one fires it halts the loop before that token is ever emitted. It's a detector on the model's internals — not an output text filter. That distinction is the whole point. In the clip, Qwen3-8B falls for a prompt injection: the payload sits at rank 0 in the internal readout but only rank 5 in the output logits, and the output spells it in pieces — so a text filter never catches it. The internal hook does, and stops generation with zero tokens emitted. Same catch across Qwen3-1.7B → 4B → 8B. Caveat the paper states itself: single-token readouts, an imperfect/incomplete view of the model's "workspace." This is the mechanism working locally — not a solved misalignment detector. A Gaussian Splat can become a world where Robots and AI agents can act. In our latest OVER Research experiment, we placed a robot inside a real-world 3D capture, with a VLM making decisions based on what it sees. At every step, the robot holds a pose in the reconstruction, gets a newly rendered view of the environment, takes an action, moves, and sees the world again from its new position. Why does this matter? Because 3D captures can become more than reconstructions to explore. They can become environments where embodied AI and robots can navigate, act, be evaluated and eventually train across real-world spaces at scale. Capture a place once. OpenAI's AI broke out of a locked test environment, got onto the internet, and hacked into Hugging Face's servers. It did this entirely on its own. No human told it to. Here's what happened in plain English. OpenAI was testing how good its newest AI models are at hacking. They put the AI on a locked computer with no internet access and gave it a cybersecurity challenge to solve. The AI couldn't solve it the normal way. So it started looking for a way out. It found a software bug that nobody knew about. It used that bug to escape the locked computer and get onto the internet. Once online, the AI figured out that Hugging Face, a platform where AI companies store their models and data, might have the answers to its test. It found stolen login details and discovered another unknown bug in Hugging Face's software. It combined both to break into their servers and grab the test answers. It did all of this to cheat on a test. Hugging Face's security team caught it and shut it down. Both companies are now working together on the investigation. The part that should get your attention is that nobody programmed any of this. The AI picked its own targets, chained together multiple attack methods, and pulled it off across two different companies' systems without a single human telling it what to do.

A single E. coli cell, placed on a dish, will become 70 billion cells in just 12 hours. That’s exponential growth. But a new preprint shows that it's possible to engineer E. coli to grow linearly instead, where only one daughter cell continues dividing and the other stops. First, some context. In nature, there is a bacterium called Mycobacterium smegmatis (initially discovered in 1884 in ulcers scraped from syphilis patients.) M. smegmatis is weird because it divides asymmetrically. These cells grow only from one end, and all their cell wall biosynthesis machinery is located on that one end. So when the cell divides, one daughter gets this machinery and the other gets nothing. The daughter that gets the machinery can keep dividing immediately, but the other daughter has to remake all that machinery from scratch, so its growth is delayed. E. coli doesn’t grow like this. When it divides, it pinches in the middle and splits everything evenly. Enzymes, metabolites, and proteins get partitioned more or less randomly between the two daughters. For the new preprint, though, researchers engineered E. coli to behave more like M. smegmatis. Here is how they did it: First, they deleted a gene called cyaA, which encodes an enzyme (adenylate cyclase) that makes a molecule called cAMP. cAMP is SUPER IMPORTANT! It is a nutrient sensor that instructs E. coli to switch on genes that help it digest non-glucose carbon sources when glucose is scarce. Without cAMP, E. coli cells growing on alternative carbon sources will starve; they won’t know how to eat the food. Next, they added back a “split” version of the cyaA gene into the cells. In other words, they split the gene in two so that each half of the enzyme is made separately. Cells can only make cAMP, and thus eat non-glucose carbon sources, if these two halves come together. To facilitate that “coming together,” the researchers also fused the split cyaA proteins to sticky proteins that clump together, and to a fluorescent protein (to make it easy to track these molecules in the cell.) So now some interesting things start to happen if you grow E. coli on a growth medium lacking glucose. As the cell grows, its cyaA “halves” start clumping together into a giant ball. Inside the aggregate, the two enzyme halves come together and make cAMP. And when the cell gets big enough and divides, the clump of cyaA RANDOMLY goes to either daughter cell #1 or #2. The daughter that gets the aggregate (called PA+ in this paper) can keep dividing. The daughter that doesn’t (PA–) cannot. It still grows a few times — about four divisions — because it inherits some leftover cAMP from its mother. But after that, the metabolite is diluted away, and the cell stops growing. PA+ cells went through about 23 divisions on average before their aggregate decayed. And the population of cells, as a whole, grew linearly. This paper is cool because there are many applications where exponential growth is too unpredictable and, perhaps, unsafe. If you want to engineer bacteria to deliver drugs, clean up waste, or live in the gut, you don’t want them to double uncontrollably. This paper shows you can make them expand in a controlled, linear way. Alas, mutations could break this whole engineered system. A mutation that restores cyaA, for example, would give cells a new way to make cAMP. Mutations that make the aggregates split between daughters would break the asymmetry, too. But still, I really enjoy proof-of-concept engineering papers like this.

Last night I asked Claude Code to build me a simple script: pull on-chain data from Polymarket and sort wallets by win rate Nothing ambitious. Just wanted to see who is actually making money on 15-minute BTC markets The terminal finished in about 20 minutes. Hundreds of addresses, columns of numbers, nothing interesting And then 1 wallet caught my eye 200+ trades per day, consistent profit every week, almost surgical timing precision. I reread the line 3 times. A real person does not trade like this I fed the address back into Claude Code and asked it to break down the pattern. Half an hour later I had a full strategy reconstruction on my screen The bot (and it is definitely a bot) pings Binance and Bybit every 100ms monitoring volatility compression on BTC. When it drops below 0.08% it enters Up and Down contracts simultaneously at 25 to 35 cents each. A pure straddle. 1 side burns, the other flies to a dollar. At a 30-cent entry that is 3 to 4x per position And so it goes in circles. Dozens of times a day I sat there staring at it for about 10 minutes $13K to $25K in daily profit from a single wallet. Not a trader with intuition, not an insider with information. An algorithm that found a hole in market mechanics and methodically milks it You can check the trade history yourself: After that I went looking for whether anyone else is tracking this wallet. Turns out yes. Found a Telegram bot that tracks wallets like this and copies their trades automatically I connected it to the same address just to see if the entries would match what my terminal was showing. With the local elections closing in and Labour facing a historic drubbing, Oldham MP Jim McMahon has been put to work shoring up the bloc Muslim vote. Here he is canvassing with Councillor Fida Hussain and his biraderi entourage. Nobody should be surprised by McMahon's desperation. He understands what is at stake. If Labour loses control of Oldham Council, its leverage over the National Inquiry's investigations into the Pakistani rape gangs operating in this town is significantly weakened. The machine that has managed this cover-up for two decades runs on council control. Lose the council, and the machinery starts to seize. Which brings us to Fida Hussain. The National Inquiry has powers to compel witnesses. It should use them. Hussain ought to be summoned to testify on what he knew about Shabir 'Daddy' Ahmed and his gang, when he knew it, and what, if anything, he did with that knowledge. i found a pattern in 5-minute bitcoin markets it's literally a way to make x100 in one trade no bots needed, no technical analysis just timing the last 1-2 seconds let me explain how it works the market is nearing completion price fluctuates slightly, needs only $20-40 to hit the target level in the last 10 seconds, shares price starts dropping sharply everyone assumes the outcome is decided one side trades down to a few cents here's where it gets interesting watching these markets, i noticed a pattern in the final second there's a violent price spike in the direction nobody expected the outcome that was trading at 1c suddenly wins looks like whale manipulation since the market is so new but we don't care about why right now we're being handed free money by buying the "dead" outcome at 1c in the final seconds you risk losing $1 to make $100 the math is completely in your favor probability theory says if this happens even 2% of the time you're profitable and it's happening way more than 2% just try it yourself before it gets fixed yet 5-min market:
