Guys, I meant which version of this specific song I made is better. I didn't mean to start a 16-bit flame war LOL But reading the replies has been interesting. And I'll admit the MD cover here is weak as I wanted to try out a more conservative MD style.

Definitely the SNES. The MD's instrumentation seems to be lacking the variety the SNES has for this song

IMO the SNES wins here but I think the MD instruments are a little weak in this example, maybe different FM patches and a stronger percussion can make it sound even better. But as is, the composition goes well with the samples used in the SNES one, they fit the tune.

SNES is better, but that Mega drive sound is just as nostalgic and 90s

Can't say and frankly it's best not to. Both versions have unique flavors where neither is better than the other. SNES has the feel of facing a massive hurdle worth jumping over. MD has that high-octane X-Factor for fast paced scenes.

The SNES dedicated sound chip (S-SMP) had 3m transistors. The SNES was released Nov 1990. Home PC: The Intel 486DX chip, released in 1990, had 1.2 million transistors. The SNES's sound chip was 3x more powerful than the CPUs released in desktop PCs in the same year. SNES wins.

SNES's orchestral hits are great, but the Genesis has a better drum and backing. Gen sounds more metal, SNES has more going on
