In celebration of the great Ronnie Barker on what would have been his 97th birthday, I've decided to post part of his celebrated mispronunciation sketch. If you'd like to watch the whole thing, I've added it to the Comedy Playlist on my YouTube. There's a link in my linktree. Like many Two Ronnies sketches featuring just Ronnie Barker, it was written by Barker himself under the pseudonym of Gerald Wiley and is a masterpiece of comedic wordplay. Just in case you aren't aware of the story behind Gerald Wiley, Ronnie Barker would bring sketches to rehearsals and claim they had been written by a man called Gerald Wiley" who had submitted them through Barker's agent, Peter Eade. So as not to arouse suspicion, Barker would even criticize some of the sketches, even going do far as to telling Ronnie Corbett that some of the Wiley sketches were poorly written. The truth was eventually revealed in a Chinese restaurant where, in front of the cast and crew, Barker stood up and admitted he was Gerald Wiley, although many didn't believe him! Incidentally, while I was writing Richard Briers' authorised biography I came across a set of postcards in Richard's study that had been sent to him by Ronnie Barker. Each one started with "Now look here!" and have a running theme of Ronnie trying to find Richard a suitable "mental facility" in which he's to be committed! Anyway, God bless Ronnie Barker!

In 2002, I was Sparring Darren Barker in a Cyprus training camp with the England Boxing team. Even though he was a weight below me, I remember being really nervous for this. I was 18 and had just moved up to the senior team, and he had just won the Commonwealth Games (and he was a bit of a celeb in the boxing world :) It was a great sparring him... I learned a lot. Here are the 4 rounds.

ALERT: Janitor arrested after allegedly hiding in a locker room ceiling to take photos of a woman's college soccer team. Jayson Barker was caught in the ceiling of the women's locker room taking photos of the girls at Wilmington College who had just finished a game. Wilmington College Campus Safety personnel detained Barker before the Wilmington Police Department arrived. Barker is charged with 11 counts of voyeurism and is being held on a $22,000 cash surety bond.

Alice Barker, a 102-year-old dancer, sees herself on film for the first time. Alice Barker was a dancer at such New York nightspots as the Cotton Club and the Cafe Zanzibar in the 1930s and 1940s, part of chorus lines that entertained alongside notables such as Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Frank Sinatra. There were motion pictures made of Barker, but she had never seen any of them. Moreover, her photographs and memorabilia had all been lost over the years, and she had never seen herself actually dancing. She passed away on April 6, 2016. More amazing photos:

I was on vacation in Europe, and I called him up and said, "I'm coming over," and went to his house in England. My wife at the time was freaked out that I wasn't going to be back home for my birthday. But I said, "I'm going to meet Stanley Kubrick. The court reportedly had no jurisdiction to grant bail, and as a result, Chisom was sent to prison on Monday 17/11/2025. According to Stanley, Chisom’s brother, who went to deliver food to him, was also arrested and sent to prison. Their grandmother was åss@ulted, and N200,000 was taken from her by “Hon boys” in Ikwo. Additionally, the family reportedly had land seized.
