Utah Bill to Strip Public Assistance from Undocumented Immigrants, those in the state illegally Passes Committee 7-3 Utah lawmakers are debating House Bill 88, sponsored by Rep. Trevor Lee, a Republican from Layton. This bill would require strict verification of lawful presence in the U.S. before anyone 18 or older can receive most state or locally funded public benefits. It removes many current exceptions, meaning programs like WIC nutrition for women, infants, and children, food assistance, vaccinations, treatment for communicable diseases, housing aid, homeless services, and non-emergency health care could be off-limits to those without legal status.
