Those keys control over $200 billion in stablecoins and tokenised real-world assets. Ethereum's Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism also relies on quantum-vulnerable BLS signatures. A sufficiently advanced quantum attacker could use this to compromise the blockchain's finality itself. There is a silver lining. The Ethereum Foundation is already researching post-quantum alternatives.
