Oooh! I just love Fresnel lenses and can't help but think they could benefit us in a lot more ways than we are using currently. You cannot just leave them lying around tho---they can catch things on fire remarkably fast!

The scaling to Kardashev, which is using some non trivial amount of energy from the sun. You kind of have to do space solar power. Like to even use a millionth of a percent of the sun's energy you you really have to be have your solar power in deep space."

So the sun is 99.8% of the mass of the solar system. Jupiter is about 0.1%, and everything else is miscellaneous Now, even if you were to burn Jupiter in a thermonuclear reactor, the amount of energy produced by the sun would still round up to 100% If you teleported three more Jupiters into our solar system and burned three more Jupiters and everything else in the solar system, the sun's energy would still round up to 100% So it's really all about the sun H/t: X Freeze
