Some examples showing what the missing lighting pass bug (when rendering above 1080p) affects visually in #007FirstLight. It primarily impacts Ambient Occlusion coverage, the softness of some shadows, as well as the definition and stability of fine geometry especially foliage.

I’ve had quite a few people ask about how I use the black and white underpainting in my process. Here’s a short timelapse video showing part of the color pas over ‘Chrysalis’. I don’t always use an underpainting, but when I do, I use it to work out the overall values and lighting…especially useful when large areas of the painting are invented…such as the entire background and landscape of this painting. Then I make the color pass in pass in opaque oil and use the underpainting as a value guide…free to focus entirely on the color.

Alrighty - my final update on this shot for now! Tons of revisions and fixes, as well as new Music SFX and VO. Added the welders welding, a few more work bees, the Arges in the background, and some changes to the lighting angle. 4K in the 🧵! I hope everyone likes it!

Did you know that in Blender you can have edge highlighting and ambient occlusion right in the regular 'Solid' shading mode? ✨ People were asking about my viewport shading settings, so here they are! 1. Press the small button on the top right of your viewport 2. Check 'Cavity', and set the type to 'Both'. World Space 'Valley' acts exactly like ambient occlusion. I like to disable the 'Ridge' here though, because inverted AO doesn't make sense to me visually 3. I also usually keep the 'Shadow' enabled for extra definition, but keep in mind that this is performance-heavy, and if you have millions of polys you may see stuttering 4. I also like to enable 'Backface Culling'. It's not uncommon to produce inverted geometry when you model. This setting allows me to see it immediately, and thanks to that, my geometry is always correct when I export it to Unity! 5. You can also select a different studio lighting preset, or go with a matcap if that's something you're into! 🚀 #b3d

The art gods can paint above some brush strokes and colors on canvas, but I don't have this skill LOL. 😭 That's why I love to make a good lineart with ambient occlusion to guide me before coloring. Btw it demands time, this face is about only 5% of the whole piece.
