Nick Saban was asked a question after practice once. His response was 70 seconds of gold on what it takes to be successful in life. Here’s Saban on the Illusion of Choice: “These guys, they all think they have this illusion of choice. Like I can do whatever I want to do. “You have a younger generation now that doesn’t always get told no. They don’t get told this is exactly how you need to do it. So they have this illusion that they have all these choices. “But the fact of the matter is, if you want to be good you don’t really have a lot of choices. It takes what it takes. You have to do what you have to do to be successful. “You have to make the choices and decisions to have the discipline and the focus to the process of what you need to do to accomplish your goals. “All these guys that think they have a lot of choices are sadly mistaken. As we all have done with our own children, they learn these lessons of life as they get older. “Sometimes the best way to learn is from the mistakes you make, even though we all hate to see them have to make them, and we don’t condone it when they do.” – I’ve studied Saban for 12+ years, and the Illusion of Choice is one of the most powerful concepts I’ve come across. It’s disturbing how many activists (especially in Western academic circles) strip Palestinians of agency. They speak about us as if we are incapable of moral judgment, of political decision-making, of any responsibility at all. It’s breathtakingly condescending. Yes, the power imbalance with Israel is real. Yes, Palestinians have endured decades of structural injustice. But there is still room for accountability and self-correction. We cannot build a viable future if we pretend our decisions had no role in getting us here. We squandered opportunities. We made catastrophic choices. And acknowledging that isn’t “blaming the victim.” Please realize that Palestinians are full human beings with the capacity to choose a better path. If that triggers people, it says more about their prejudices than about our struggle.

I’m going to bet all I own Ajax Liberal MP McKelvie didn’t stop by & ask the residents of this ballooning tent city what they needed to see in her government’s budget. Spoiler: there was ZERO. They don’t have a lot in common, mind you. They live in tents - she doesn’t. They also live in Ajax - she doesn’t. I want to be a person (elected or not) in my hometown who doesn’t just talk about problems but actually tackles them head-on. Right now, we have a growing homeless encampment that began with 5-6 tents and has now grown to around 25-30. It’s getting cold, and there’s NO plan - no federal policy or strategy to help. No leadership, & no honest conversation about what can or should be done is predictable & abhorrent. These are people who need to be lifted up, not ignored. Some need opportunity, some need guidance, some need addiction treatment - but all of them need a voice that carries influence & compassion. There is no stigma to needing help. The stigma should be on those who pretend these people & their circumstances don’t exist. I’m making calls - I will keep you posted.

They called this a “Town Hall”, but it was more of a “Management Hall”. But here’s the reality transit workers deal with every day. In 2018, management gave conductors phones. There’s a bulletin to prove it. But today? If a conductor gets caught with a phone, management treats it like it’s the worst violation imaginable. So which one is it? Because a distraction is a distraction. Whether the alert says “service delay” or “your child is sick at school” the phone still rings the same way. You can’t preach one policy… and enforce another through discipline. And speaking of discipline… When workers ask for real safety solutions, the answers suddenly disappear into bureaucracy. For six months we’ve been waiting for an answer to one simple question: Can off-duty employees or deadheading crews ride in the cab for their own safety? Because the reality is this uniform attracts negative attention. Transit workers get assaulted wearing it. But somehow we can hold endless meetings… and still leave basic safety questions unanswered. At some point we have to stop pretending these meetings are productive. Because workers aren’t interested in ceremonial conversations. We’re interested in results. The people who run this system every single day don’t need more meetings. They need real decisions. So here’s the question again: Can transit workers ride in the cab for their own safety… or not? It’s really crazy to me that russians think they can negotiate their way out of genocide. Even by some miracle if Zelenskyy is forced to agree to terms, none of us will. It’s simply no longer possible after such crimes russians commit for any negotiations. There can only be one ending because if not, entire world is in peril. This can only end one way and Russia has no right or ability to decide it. You can’t steal children and people and think we let you decide you want peace. Russians should have considered this before they started stealing children, r@ping and executing our people. There will be no agreement that is honored by us because russia forfeit all rights to have say in human decisions. Monsters get no say in human decisions What part don’t people understand? You want to agree to Hitler terms? Your choice. We are never agreeing. This ends one way. Russian collapse. Nothing they can promise or agree to. Nothing they can offer. You cannot simply commit genocide and walk away again and again and again. That’s lesson they must finally learn after no consequences for centuries of genocides. Now there must be consequences. They do what others won’t, so the rest of us don’t have to. You might never know their names. You might never understand their choices. This man who is a landscaper said you should never build a tree coffin around a tree. He said it ends up making the tree die by restricting the roots and having too much mulch. I never knew they were called "tree coffins". I looked it up and it does say they can be very detrimental to your tree if not done correctly. The pavers can restrict root growth and the mulch shouldn't be too thick or torching the base of the tree. I have seen some pretty nice "tree coffins". I never knew they were bad for your trees. Do you have these around your trees? Did you build one a certain way that allows your tree to flourish? What about the people who cemented their pavers together and in the ground?
