Will Hynes | RHP | 2025 Lorne Park Secondary (CAN) | #WakeForest commit. FB: 90-94 T95 | 2461 SL: 80-84 | 2821 CH: 85-87 | 1813 Hynes put together one of the most dominant outings I’ve seen in awhile. Came out an effectively sat 94 the entire outing. Velo band was 90-94 but he was 92-94 early & still grabbing 94 multiple times in the later innings of the outing. Grabbed 95 once early on my stalker. FB has good life to it & he can command it to both sides of the plate. SL was typical healthy 10-4 breaking pitch w/ plenty of depth & spins above 2800 RPMs. Flashed the CH in the upper-80s w/ good fading depth. Has a great clue to sequence & keep opposing hitters guessing. Elite arm talent. Comes out easy w/ a real fluid arm. Athletic frame & always holds stuff/velo in my looks. Competitor on the mound — just a lot of traits you like to see in a top-tier prep arm. No. 1 player out of Canada this year draft-wise in my book. Currently 110th on the PG Draft Board. RHP Patrick Forbes (Louisville Baseball) is an intriguing college arm to keep close tabs on this spring. Last year was Forbes' first focusing solely on pitching, and across 29 innings (12 appearances, 4 starts) he worked a 3.72 ERA with 32 Ks to 15 BB. Proceeded to have a great summer circuit that was split between Team USA and the Cape. On the Cape, Forbes was excellent and pitched his way to a 3.29 ERA with 22 Ks to 6 BB in 13.2 innings. Forbes has a strong, athletic build at 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds. Physicality throughout, some length in his lower-half. Compact, explosive delivery with a short, whippy arm stroke and plenty of arm speed. Attacks from a low-three quarter slot, ultra-high leg lift and really drives his back side through. Moves really well on the mound, high-level athlete. Relies heavily on his mid-90s fastball that he threw 77% of the time last spring. Sat 93-95 and topped out at 97, has been up to 98 this fall. Plenty of life through the zone with some ride in the top 1/3. Also plays well in the bottom 1/3. High-spin pitch that last year averaged North of 2,500 RPMs. Explodes out of his ~5'3" release height. Kind of a dead zone profile, but spin/release traits help compensate for it a little bit. Key is just staying out of the middle. 25% miss rate last year, good number especially given the usage. Supplements his FB with a high-70s-to-low-80s SL. Tight, two-plane tilt. Still gaining feel for the pitch and the shape can be a little inconsistent at times, but it will really flash. Will sometimes take on a true sweeper look that looks like a real weapon. Also throws a high-70s-to-low-80s CB. The shape will blend with his SL at times, but it will flash depth with sharp, downward bite. SL is definitely the better of the two - 41% miss rate last spring. Forbes rounds out his arsenal with a high-80s-to-low-90s power CH. Hardly ever uses it (5% usage in '24) but at times it showed serious late fade to the arm side with some tumble. Command can waver, but it's gotten better year-over-year and took another step forward this summer. Low mileage arm with plenty of upside. Bulldog mentality on the mound, checks a ton of boxes between his "now" stuff and athleticism. Certainly some reliever risk, but there's easy stuff to clean up across the board that will help maximize his chance to start. Day 1 upside this July.

Enjoyed my look at Canadian LHP Sean Duncan (Vanderbilt Baseball) this morning. Across 3 innings, he allowed 2 ER on 3 hits (one of which was a bunt) with 7 Ks and 1 BB. Lean, high-waisted frame (6’3” 180-lbs) with plenty of projection remaining. Fairly loose delivery, attacks out of a 3/4 slot. FB sat 90-93 and topped out at 94 with life through the zone. High-spin pitch, played well in the top-half of the zone thanks to its riding life. 7 whiffs with the heater today. The money-maker with Duncan is his low-80s SL. Showed the ability to manipulate its shape. Flashed ample—and sharp—sweep at times, and at others took on more of a two-plane look with a similar degree of teeth. No doubt plus potential! Particular tough look for LHH. Garnered 5 whiffs with it today. Flipped in a couple of curveballs in the low-80s and tried to turn over a CH or two. CB could be a fine third pitch down the road. 12 total whiffs on the day. Duncan’s front side will sometimes fly open, which will lead to misses up and/or out. Labored a bit during the 3rd and his command became more scattered. Stayed off the barrel for the most part. A lot to like now and even more to dream on. Expect the entire arsenal to tick up—both in terms of velocity and dynamism—as Duncan continues to mature physically. Looks the part of a starter professionally, I would put him in the 3rd-to-5th round bucket this July.

The Amazon/Costco Rental Program finally hit me.z A guy bought a used gas pressure washer from me on Facebook Marketplace. Not last week. Not last month. 3 months ago. Yesterday he showed up wanting either: A different pressure washer All of his money back I asked a few questions. “How long have you owned it?” “About 3 months.” “How often have you used it?” “Every couple of days.” Then he explained that it wasn’t starting and was “leaking gas everywhere.” I walked over. Opened the gas cap it’s full. No signs of leaking. Pulled the starter rope once. It fired right up. Was it running rough? Absolutely. Could it need some work? Probably. But then came the expectation… “I want a different one or my money back.” That’s where we disagreed. You bought a 4-5 year old pressure washer from Facebook Marketplace and used it regularly for 90 days. That’s not a return. That’s ownership. I told him I wasn’t refunding his money, but I was willing to have my mechanic look at it. I even offered to buy it back for 60% of what he paid. For context, that’s less than what a 2-day rental would have cost. He wasn’t thrilled. Maybe I’m old school, but Facebook Marketplace isn’t Costco. When you buy used equipment from a seller, do you think the seller should still be responsible 90 days later?

LHP Ben Abeldt (TCU Baseball) is a name to follow closely this spring. Enjoyed a strong Freshman year in which he worked a 3.60 ERA with 71 Ks to 24 BB in 55 IP. Was dominant last spring and pitched his way to a 1.83 ERA with 54 Ks to just 16 BB across 44.1 IP. Two-time Team USA invitee. Standard pitchers' frame at 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds. Added noticeable strength and physicality to it between '23 and '24. Some natural funk and deception in his delivery. Uncomfortable look, especially for LHH. Works exclusively on the 1B side of the rubber which makes it even tougher for LHH. Long, loose arm stroke and attacks from a low-three quarter slot. Big time crossfire. Abeldt relies heavily on his fastball (threw it 79% of the time in '24) that sits in the 91-94 MPH range. Was up to 96 during the spring and up to 98 over the summer. Run and ride through the zone with particular life on his arm side. Like a lot of the low-release lefties who have a little giddy up on their heaters, it's generates the most whiffs when located on the inner-1/2 and/or top-1/2 of the zone. Does a nice job of staying off the barrel with it, 23% whiff and OBA of .208 last spring. Go-to secondary offering is his low-80s slider. Long, sweeping life with some late bite at times. Not to beat a dead horse, but just a brutal look for lefties; Abeldt will release the pitch from essentially behind their backs. Legit swing-and-miss pitch that's effective against both right and lefthanded hitters. 45% miss rate last spring, comfortably a 55. Closer to a 6 than a 55. Third pitch right now is a low-80s CH for which he's still gaining a feel. Gets good separation off his FB (averaged 10 MPH off) and does a nice job of killing spin. Natural fade to the arm side and will occasionally flash some tumbling life. Profiles as an effective option against RHH. Strike-throwing ability is above-average. The key for Abeldt this season is selling his ability to start. Has made just 2 starts in his collegiate career and could headline TCU's rotation in '25. Look for both the SL and CH usage (especially the SL) to tick up. Curious to see how he fares in more extended looks. Easy comp is former Miami LHP Rafe Schlesinger. 3rd-4th round type this July.

Like a lot of the low-release lefties who have a little giddy up on their heaters, it's generates the most whiffs when located on the inner-1/2 and/or top-1/2 of the zone. Does a nice job of staying off the barrel with it, 23% whiff and OBA of .208 last spring. Go-to secondary offering is his low-80s slider. Long, sweeping life with some late bite at times. Not to beat a dead horse, but just a brutal look for lefties; Abeldt will release the pitch from essentially behind their backs. Legit swing-and-miss pitch that's effective against both right and lefthanded hitters. 45% miss rate last spring, comfortably a 55. Closer to a 6 than a 55. Third pitch right now is a low-80s CH for which he's still gaining a feel. Gets good separation off his FB (averaged 10 MPH off) and does a nice job of killing spin. Natural fade to the arm side and will occasionally flash some tumbling life. Profiles as an effective option against RHH. Strike-throwing ability is above-average. The key for Abeldt this season is selling his ability to start. Has made just 2 starts in his collegiate career and could headline TCU's rotation in '25. RHP Matt Scott (Stanford Baseball) is one of the premier college arms in this year's Draft. After a solid Freshman season that was split between the bullpen and the rotation, Scott this year anchored the Stanford rotation and collected a career-high 103 strikeouts against 36 walks across 80 innings. Earned a Team USA invite for the second straight summer. Scott has an XL, workhorse frame at 6-foot-7 and 247-pounds with plenty of strength and physicality throughout. Quiet, "checkpoint-like" delivery. Small side step towards 1B side, gathers himself and breaks into the rest of his operation. Attacks from a high-three quarter slot. Low effort, does a nice job of staying connected and in-sync for someone of his stature. FB sits in the 93-96 range, but will routinely touch 97/98. Tons of carry through the zone, averaged 22.5" of IVB last year. At its best when located in the top-1/2 of the zone, which is also where it generates most of its whiffs. Just needs to stay out of the middle. Threw it 62% of the time and generated a pretty impressive miss rate of 26%, though I think it can become even more effective if he's able to hone in on his command of it. 55 pitch right now, eventual 60 if some of the low hanging fruit is cleaned up. Supplements his FB with a mid-to-upper-80s gyro SL. I actually think Scott's feel for the SL is on par, if not better, than his feel for the heater. Effective against both right and lefthanded hitters. True, hard gyro look against LHH. Will flash more two-plane tilt against RHH with some sharpness to it. Another 55 pitch that last year had a 40% miss rate. Scott needs to up the usage on his split-change. Threw it just 6% of the time last year and I think it's his best secondary pitch. Legit weapon against LHH. Averaged nearly 12 MPH off his FB and he does an excellent job of killing spin on it; averaged 866 RPMs last season. Essentially falls off a table as it approaches the plate. Serious tumbling life with a bit of arm side fade. 48% miss across a limited sample in '24, I'd give it a 60. Command and control are both average, if not a tick above. Little-to-no reliever risk. Really like the body and stuff. Projects to be one of the first few college arms off the board this July and is a potential first-rounder.

Firefighter Katie McLaughlin, a key witness in the John O'Keefe and Karen Read re-trial, testified that she was the person who asked Karen if John had experienced any trauma in the early morning of 1/29/22, to which Karen replied, "I hit him! I hit him! I hit him!" At that point, multiple witnesses to the statement (including other first responders) realized Karen was confessing to hitting John O'Keefe with her car, while drunk with a BAC between 0.14 and 0.28, and then the Canton Police called in their supervisor. Develop Better Finishing and Decision Making With This Fast Break Drill Here's a great 2v1 drill to improve ball handling, passing, scoring, and decision making out of fast break advantage situations from the Youth Coaching System with Jim Huber. Even though these are youth players in the video, it's great for all ages! I actually got this drill from longtime college coach Don Kelbick. Drill Tips: -Attack and Think Lay Up! We got this drill from Don Kelbick and we teach the same mentality. You want to force the ball handler to attack and try to get a lay up. The only reason they pass is that the defender stops the ball. Personally, I’m okay if the initial ball handler takes some bad shots. I think having an assertive, attacking mentality will create more good things than bad. This mentality will eventually lead to more open passes for his teammate, because the defense will realize that they have to commit and stop the ball. -1 or 2 Pass Limit You could even add a pass limit of 1 or 2. That way, it’s more game like and they’re not going too slow. -Add a Countdown You could also introduce a time limit. If I see going too slow, I usually start saying, “3, 2, 1… “ and make a buzzer sound at zero. The kids actually enjoy it. -Make It 2v2 With a Trailing Defender It's also fun to add a trailing defender as another progression. You would simply add a 4th line somewhere in the middle of the floor. So you’d put a cone a little bit further in the middle of the court, so the trailing defender comes into the play a second or two later. -Change Offense and Defense Lines I also will switch up which lines are defense and offense, so players experience attacking the basket from all angles in transition. Day 6: What a glorious morning in the USA. We've only been in this beautiful country for 6 days and we absolutely love it. It's been a long time since I've seen my wife this happy and hopeful. The overwhelming kindness and real concern and care our community extends towards us pushes us upwards and pushes us forward. Today started slow after our meeting with our resettlement agency was rescheduled 1hr later. As updated previously someone from Spangler Restoration did come assess the mold and we're expecting a full clean by tomorrow. Will follow up, but will keep the mold updates separate from now on because it will not get us down or beat us down nor distract us from all the wonderful aspects of our journey. That said we'll give them hell should they stutter or falter. We will also conduct our own testing with a 5 minute mold test and sample kit that will get sent to a lab proudly gifted to us by American patriots who bought it for us in our Amazon wish list. We met with the resettlement agency and they went over information and asked us how we are doing and how the last 5 days have been. They are too keeping an eye on the mold issue and are also waiting for the next update from management. They explained our documentation and informed us again that we entered approved to work immediately. We have work authorization from day 1. However, some employers are too cautious employing illegals and as such people with our documentation face challenges getting employed before and EAD card and SSN card has been issued. We'll have to see them tomorrow again. This if for signing of consent forms apply as proxy for SSN etc. I informed the agency that I've applied with Rides for Refugees who could potentially hook us up with a donated vehicle which would make the world of difference to be able to travel with my son to appointments. There is still a big journey lying ahead for us. More medical assessments and SSA visits etc. My body is aching from the physical labor after doing the fibre trenches yesterday. I can hardly walk. 😂 I overdid It while shadowing with the ride along yesterday. Apparently it takes about 2 weeks to get work fit. If they contract me I will take the offer immediately and I'll start with training after two weeks of digging fibre trenches. I'm coming from journalism and web hosting office jobs into the sun and I'm totally game for it. Anything to start earning dollars and it's an industry I want to get into. So it's win win and I can't be more grateful for this opportunity. Back in South Africa I would've never have had this opportunity. I can't wait to find out if and when I start. One of you kind people gifted me work boots and cargo pants from ma Amazon wish list. So I'm ready on day one. And another wonderful person on X I'm forever grateful for, gifted me peace of mind, for when I have to go off to work leaving my wife and baby behind, we now have a ring doorbell camera installed this evening letting both of us know of any trouble or visitors while healing our angst and worry, PTSD, we undoubtedly brought with us from South Africa. We have also received the gifted Air purifier this afternoon and it's already doing wonders in our single bedroom where Nova sleeps with us, where it will help ease the odors, it's affects, albeit temporarily, and will help us have a proper rest during the night for the first time until the specialists clean the HVAC. I will be posting pictures and thanking individuals who opened their hearts. I will never forget what your doing for us, for my family, for my son. I have sacrificed my son's past, his Afrikaner culture and to a degree his Afrikaans language for a future in which he can reach his full potential, he will grow up American and we all including my family will fight to protect American values and the future of this great nation, & I am and will always be a proud Amerikaner dad. One of my favorite college arms in the 2025 class is LHP Cade Fisher (Florida Gators Baseball). Had a fantastic true Freshman season in 2023, pitching his way to a 6-0 record with a 3.10 ERA and 48 Ks to 13 BB across 49.1 IP. Lean build at 6'4" and 210-lbs with some physicality in the lower-half. Long arm stroke, attacks from a deceptive low-three quarter slot. Low release height - averaged around 5' on his FB. Easy, under control operation that Fisher repeats well. Maintains good direction towards the plate. Fisher's FB sits in the 91-93 range, but has been up to 95. Plenty of natural run to the arm side, and last year averaged nearly 19" of run. Fisher has plus control of the pitch, and it's most effective when located on the outer-half (to RHH, inner-half to LHH) of the plate. Best secondary pitch is his high-70s/low-80s SL. Long, sweeping action with some teeth at times. Fisher has advanced feel for the pitch and manipulates its shape well. Shorter action with a bit more depth against RHH. Can land it for strikes, generated a 39% miss rate in '23 while holding opposing hitters to a .229 average. 56% miss rate this fall. Lastly, Fisher throws a mid-80s CH. It's a bit of a work in progress right now, but I'm excited about what the pitch could look like. Last year flashed ample late fade at times. Big game pitcher who wants the ball on the biggest stage. Fired 7 innings of 1-run ball against Texas Tech with UF's backs against the wall in Regionals, and then allowed just 1 ER across 4.2 IP in the CWS Finals. Outstanding mound presence. Fisher has pro-level starter written all over him and could be a first round pick in 2025.
