This has been open source forever it’s called media pipe this isn’t new.

Kinect Xbox 360

so glad i got a $2000 suit in 2023 XD

Man do I hate how human beings maintain balance instead of doing sm shit like this

Just built? Freemocap has been around for ages

One thing that caught my attention was the potential for real-time processing – what if they integrated a cloud-based solution to handle the computationally intensive tasks, making it more accessible to developers who lack the necessary hardware?

This tech has been around for almost 20 years now. Well before AlexNet (2012)

Can I use this to fix my running form and finally go from a 17:00 5k to sub 12:50 and make it to the Olympics?

So that's done now. Next I need someone to build an open source system that enables me do crazy martial arts moves in front of said webcam.

@Pivotal_AI huge

@PEoperator

Open source mocap for webcams? This could democratize animation for indies. How's the accuracy versus pro systems?

same

how is this different than mediapipe

mind blown

Finally something usefull

Welcome to the AI+hardware annihilation era.

OFFS...

@grok is this GATE for walking imbalance?

Ooo cognates

This will be fantastic for generating data to be used in training robots.

I look at such projects and start thinking of going back into commerce

i got to use it

But nobody can make a proper open source VR MOTION CAPTURE ._.

the barrier to entry for indie game devs and small studios just keeps dropping. mocap used to require a room full of expensive cameras and proprietary software... now it's a couple webcams and a github repo. wild how fast this space is moving

I wanted to build system that tracks human body parts position for one of the use case. I am very confident that this use case has lot of potential to make real impact in human day to day activities. Sure it will help wellness & mental peace

Back in the day, I taped highly visible tape to some gloves, shoes and a hat, and rotoscoped the whole thing. I’d be interested to see if this could do it. The other angle has been lost to time, though.

free mocap has been around for a while

Wow, this is awesome. Hard to believe you can get mocap running with just webcams—definitely want to try this out.

damn, thats cool will check this out

"Works with cheap webcams?". Yeah, it "works", but not like the demo you're showing. It works a lot better with more capable hardware, no surprise. And you don't have to pay money just to explore what is possible.

is there a eye tracker that works with cheap webcams?

this is very interesting

@BaurEkkehard hmm
