DHS is telling people to “self-deport,” but when someone actually tries to self-deport, ICE is locking them in private immigration prisons for months,... even years. ICE has been targeting former DACA recipients, people who historically would not be held long-term, because detention itself has become the objective. A steady pipeline feeding private prisons that are paid per body, per day. This story shows the other side of the same abuse. Tatjana Vesiolko has no criminal record. She holds a valid Lithuanian passport. Her home country accepts deportations. She received a final order of removal months ago. She didn’t fight it. She mailed her passport to ICE. She has repeatedly asked to buy her own plane ticket home. ICE refused. Instead, she has now spent nearly 11 months locked inside a private detention facility with no bond, no timeline, and no clear explanation. DHS vaguely claims the delay may be tied to a class action lawsuit they refuse to name, one she was never told about and never given the chance to opt out. Immigration attorneys say there are no obvious legal barriers preventing her deportation. This is happening as ICE detains more people than at any point since World War II. The number of people held longer than six months is rapidly climbing, not because removal is impossible, but because ICE is arresting more people than it can process and refusing to let many of them leave. And taxpayers are paying for it. Immigration detention costs at least $150 per person, per day, according to nonpartisan estimates. In a video filmed in Maine, an ICE agent openly admits their current “direction” is not arresting criminals. I think ICE has been this paramilitary force for Donald Trump and Stephen Miller now for well over a year and a half, throughout the entirety of the second Trump presidency. I think ICE should be abolished. I think we need to prosecute the people who are carrying out these crimes. This woman walked into this ice cream shop and ordered an ice cream cone. When they handed it to her she told them she couldn’t pay for it. 😳 The employees said she had to pay for it. She didn’t have any money. She asks them if they are going to call the cops. This male customer sitting there chimes in and says if they call the cops he will be a witness. The woman said she told them she wanted it for free but the man said that’s not true. He said he watched her the whole time. She tries to put it down on the countertop but the employee tells her don’t leave it there. So she walks over and throws it in the trash. The witness tells her “this is what entitlement looks like” as she walks out the door. Some people said why not just buy the ice cream for her, to have a heart, because you never know what someone is going through. Others said if she had asked the right way and told them up front she didn’t have any money then maybe they would have purchased it for her but to come in and order and THEN tell them you don’t have any money is just wrong. This wasn’t a steak or a burger or a meal, I could see buying her those things to help someone out that is hungry but an ice cream is not a necessity. No one owes anyone anything. What do you think? Should one of them have bought the ice cream for her, given it to her for free? Or do you think she was trying to get something for free and trying to take advantage of them?

Kansas enacted the HALO Act, which makes it a crime for people to knowingly get within 25 feet of law enforcement officers performing certain duties. That may sound reasonable on paper. Until you see how ICE agents are weaponizing it. In this video, a public observer drove into an apartment complex parking lot. Once she was inside, ICE agents boxed her in with vehicles, and then began demanding that she move because she was supposedly within 25 feet of them. She tells them she is stuck. She explains she cannot move. The agent ignores her. He tells her to back up… but she tells him there is a vehicle behind her, and she cannot. She is trapped in a situation ICE created. Her options? Attempt to drive through agents and their unmarked vehicles… and risk them claiming she used her vehicle as a weapon. Or stay where she is… and risk being arrested. This is how people get hurt. Law enforcement is supposed to de-escalate situations… not create impossible choices where a U.S. citizen has to choose between an action that could get them arrested… or killed. And everyone needs to be paying attention to this. Because when government agents are given more power, fewer limits, and more ways to justify escalation, this doesn’t just end with immigrants. This is how ICE/Border Patrol retaliates when U.S. citizens dare to question them. A woman is sitting in her car in her own neighborhood. An ICE/Border Patrol agent comes to her window. She calmly asks a basic question, “What are you doing in my neighborhood?” His response, “I can do whatever I need to do.” She says, “No, you don’t. Record this” And that’s when it happens. The moment she tells someone to record, the agent turns to his coworkers and says, “Guys, let’s find out their status.” Let that sink in. No suspicion. No probable cause. No crime. Just punishment for speaking up. She says, “Be my guest,” and identifies them out loud, “Everyone, this is ICE.” Now the agent comes back, demanding, “What is your legal status?” She refuses. Correctly. Calmly. Repeatedly. “I don’t have to answer that.” He insists anyway. He starts to say, “I have…” then stops himself. Because he knows he doesn’t have anything. No warrant. No authority. No legal basis. This is intimidation. This is retaliation. This is ICE using the threat of detention as a weapon against civilians who observe them, film them, or question them. Whatever word you want to use, what we need to get to is the end result: ICE should not exist as it exists. And DHS should not exist as it exists. There’s no reason for DHS to exist. Immigration is a civil enforcement matter. It is not criminal. And that’s what people keep not understanding. It is a civil enforcement matter. It used to be handled out of the Department of Justice as a civil matter. Now it’s been criminalized. It’s been put into this massive agency that was created after 9/11 that should not be there.
